IDHS - HOME OF THE KNIGHTS!
From The Principal . . . Irondale High School Families, It is with great excitement that we bring back our electronic newsletter, Knightly News, highlighting the accomplishments of our students and staff here at Irondale. This month we share with you our winter edition, showcasing events and accomplishments of our students through their academics, athletics, activities, and clubs. It’s hard to believe we are kicking off the second semester, as our seniors are realizing they are in the final stretches of high school.

Winter sports are in full swing, as Irondale is buzzing each day with practices and competitions. The goal of our teams to make sure students are having a positive experience, represent Irondale in a positive way, and continue to make academic progress as they balance academics and athletics. We are all extremely proud of our student athletes! Activities and student clubs continue to create positive culture at Irondale. They also provide unique experiences for all students to engage in events, such as our Student Council hosted a food packing event in partnership with Harvest Pack and the New Brighton/Mounds View Rotary Club. Student Council is also responsible for hosting winter spirit week, which builds community and positive culture with staff and students. Robotics is unveiling their new robot on February 22nd and our drumline and colorguard teams will compete in our annual Winter Music of the Knight in February as well. As you can see, there are many ways our students are involved and build positive culture here at Irondale. It is also hard to believe we are preparing for next year with registration upon us. Students are busy meeting with their deans, connecting with teachers about classes to consider, and of course, talking with friends to hear of their experiences. We are very excited that our first group of students completed our new Welding class and students nearly completed the solar panel ice fishing house in our new Construction and Solar course! There is quite a buzz within our community and with our community partners. We look forward to a few upcoming dates, such as our ACT Exam on April 2nd. There will be more information to come. Please also mark your calendars for our Communication Night to connect with teachers on April 18th. Thank you to all of our families that continue to provide support for our students. Please reach out, as we appreciate your partnership together to support student success. I hope you enjoy the Knightly News! Amy Janecek Principal

RaiseMe is a social enterprise focused on expanding access to higher education. Rather than waiting until the end of high school to earn scholarships, which is often too late to impact a student’s college ambitions or choices, RaiseMe enables students to earn scholarships throughout high school, starting as early as 9th grade, for doing all the things that best prepare them to succeed, whether that’s getting good grades, volunteering in the community or joining an extracurricular. Students can sign up for RaiseMe at any point in their high school career. Once a profile is created, students can follow colleges and universities of interest and begin seeing how their academic, social, and athletic achievements and activities may translate into scholarship dollars.

The S.T.R.I.P.E.S. (Students Together Respecting the Importance and Purpose of Education in Schools) program at Irondale HS is off to a fabulous start this year. We have 78 young men grades 9-12 learning and understanding the importance of leadership and post-secondary success on a daily basis. This is the largest number of students in the programs history and it is my plan to have each of them set up for a post-secondary plan they want to pursue when they leave after 4 years. This year we have had our 11th and 12th graders take a trip to Concordia St. Paul and will be setting up more college visits this winter/spring. Two of our members: Leon Murray (11th) and Jared Ness (9th) were both selected as Knight To Know candidates in the first round of submissions. This December, former Irondale student and STRIPES member Justin Davis came back and spoke to all the young men with the assistance of some other great speakers who are working in the areas of fashion, photography and entrepreneurship. His company “4 the City gave every member a t shirt as well as raffling off a pair of their shoes. This was a wonderful event that connected our students to successful people, showing them that are capable of whatever they want to do. I look forward to the opportunities upcoming for these young men as well as seeing them grow academically and socially.

Many of my friends were in orchestra and we had a number of fun school trips. I also enjoyed the school all night parties and dances. 2. Where’s your favorite place in the world? Paris, France. I LOVE history and going to Paris brought history alive. One of my favorite topics in history is the French Revolution so seeing where all of the events occurred was awe some. ACTIVITIES Boys Hockey at MN Hockey Day
Irondale/St. Anthony Knights were invited to participate in an outdoor game as part of Hockey Day Minnesota. Coon Rapids played host to the Knights on January 19th. As temperatures hovered around 5 degrees the Knights boarded buses and headed west to play a NWSC game versus the Cardinals. The JV started the day with a huge come from behind victory. Word on the street was that there was very inspirational speech in between periods that had the boys buzzing in the third period. They came from behind to capture a 5-3 victory. The Knights came out early and scored to take the lead but the Cardinals came back and scored 2 within 11 seconds of each other. They went to the locker room after the first period down 1-2. The Knights came out in the second period ready to go and scored 2 goals to put the Knights up for good. They went into the locker room leading 3-2. The Knights came out in the third with their most productive period of the year. They scored 4 goals and never looked back. It was a great win for the Knights as everyone on the team saw some action. The JV players wanted to contribute also so they threw their hats on the ice twice, as we had not one but TWO Knight Players score a hat trick. I am not sure they all received their hats back after the second time they littered the ice. The Knight Historians are combing the record books to see when the last time TWO Knights scored a hat trick the same KNIGHT! The Knights skated to a 7-2 victory, and upped their record to 9-7-1 on the season. It was a total team effort to get the win. They are hoping this will propel them to a strong finish. Hockey Day Minnesota 2019 was a day to remember for all of those involved. The Knights would like to thank all of their fans that have been coming out all year and especially the fans that braved the cold on Saturday to spend the afternoon outside with the Knights.
