Get to Know ‘Em Meet Bridget Corrigan

My name is Bridget Corrigan and I am a math teacher. This is my first year teaching at Mounds View, and my seventh year teaching overall. I graduated from the College of Saint Benedict with a major in Computer Science and spent the first five years of my career working in Corporate America. After listening to an inspiring speaker, I felt a calling to work with kids in an underprivileged community. I left my job and began working as a para at a lowincome school. Within a couple of years I received my Masters in Education and have been teaching ever since. I have taught at a middle school, a high school, and a transitions alternative learning school. I have been so blessed to work with students of all backgrounds and am thankful for the opportunities that have allowed me to be where I am today! I have three amazing daughters, ages 13, 12 and 9, that attend school at Chippewa and Island Lake. They keep me busy outside of school with hockey, basketball, and softball. They are very passionate children and I thoroughly enjoy watching them grow in all aspects of life! When we are not on the field, in the rink, or at the gym, we head up north to our cabin for some relaxation, swimming, fishing and boating!

My experiences throughout the years have driven me to teach, and I love being able to work with kids. I am committed to pushing them to be their best - not only academically, but socially and emotionally, as well. Helping kids persevere through tough situations - challenging math problems, or challenging life problems - is what keeps me loving my job every day! I am so fortunate to be at Mounds View High School, thankful for those I have already met, and looking forward to making more connections in the school and community!

My name is Ellisha Dunnigan and this is my first year teaching English & Language Arts at Mounds View High School. Before teaching at Mounds View, I worked in the district as a special education paraeducator and completed my student-teaching at Chippewa Middle School.

Meet Ellisha Dunnigan

I grew up in Mounds View, Minnesota. I have a strong connection to this community. I received my own education from Mounds View Public Schools; I started at Pinewood Elementary, continued to Edgewood Middle, and graduated from Irondale High School in 2011. After graduation, I took a leap of desperation and decided that I was going to be the first person in my family to go to college. I received my degree in Communication Arts & Literature Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato last spring. Working in the same district that I was once a student in has brought this experience full circle for me. I am thrilled to have this opportunity! I value community, so I like to attend after-school activities and events. It’s awesome to see student athletes and student performers show off their talents! So far, I’ve gone to the 3rd Annual IZZY event, the fall choir concert, the musical: Sister Act, the Homecoming dance, some football games, basketball games, and volleyball games. Go Mustangs!! Away from school, I also work as a Health & Wellness coach with Herbalife nutrition. I develop meal plans and workouts for people who are looking to obtain a healthier lifestyle. In my free time, I enjoy being outside, swimming or paddle-boarding at the lake, going to concerts and shows in the area, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. I currently live in South Minneapolis, and I love it. I enjoy being immersed in various cultures, foods, types of music, and everything else that comes with diversity. I have been able to learn so much from the people whom I’ve met and the experiences that I’ve had -- during the interview process and learning more about the English department, specifically, I realized that I shared similar values to the people who were interviewing me. I seek environments that welcome inclusion while also celebrating diversity; I am truly grateful to work with such brilliant people and enthusiastic students everyday here at Mounds View!

Health Office News Fight the Flu The flu season is upon us. Please help prevent the spread! If your student experiences symptoms of “the flu”, or influenza-like illness, allow them the rest that they need and keep them home from school and other activities. Symptoms of influenza include fever (of 100° or higher) and dry cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, and extreme tiredness. How do you treat the flu? Allow time for plenty of rest, lots of fluid and frequent hand washing. Consult a healthcare provider, if symptoms are severe, or in the case of an underlying health condition that may indicate the need for treatment. In some cases, an antiviral medication will be prescribed. Antiviral medication (when indicated) can lessen symptoms, if started in the first day or two of illness. Remember to call the attendance line (651-621-7101), if your student is ill. If your student is home with symptoms of the flu, include that in your message. Thank you for helping us keep our community healthy!
