WESTON- Five students from Lewis County High School were transported to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital treatment after taking unknown prescription drugs allegedly distributed by another student. According to a statement from Lewis County High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Brian Fisher, a student distributed a prescription drug to other students. Fisher noted the parents/guardians of the students were notified, and the update was being given to clarify the situation to all parties concerned. “We do encourage you to speak to your child about the risk of consuming unauthorized medications,” Fisher said. “If you have any questions about this situation, please call LCHS or the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.” School board officials reported the unnamed students were expected to recover. The type of prescription drug taken was unknown as of press time. Student well-being was the primary concern for school officials. During the incident discipline and ann investigation into the matter took a backseat. An investigation is ongoing with discipline expected to follow. According to reports, one student was sent to the nurse’s office for observation. Four more students were sent to the nurse’s office before being transported to the hospital for treatment. A call went out to parents regarding the situation at 3:15 p.m., according to reports.
