Shoreline at Mountain View
Shoreline at Mountain View opened to the public on July 17, 1983 and therefore is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Read below to learn about how you can experience and discover more about the past, present and future of Shoreline.
01 40th Anniversary Speaker Series
The four-part educational speaker series that celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Shoreline at Mountain View opening to the public has two events for which you can register in fall. On August 29, join a walking tour that focuses on sea level rise and the multiple water bodies that Shoreline supports. On October 15, the series culminates with a panel discussion on how Shoreline’s past continues to inform the vision for its future. For more information or to view recordings of the previous events, visit MountainView.gov/Shoreline.
02 Take in the Natural Wonders
For native habitats, visit the Charleston Retention Basin for an oasis of riparian habitat or walk along the Permanente Creek Trail to witness blooms of marsh goldenrod and marsh baccharis in the early fall. Around November, over one thousand species of birds can be found in the bay shallows of Shoreline as millions of birds travel the Pacific flyway from Alaska to South America. In December, the King Tide phenomena raises the levels of the Stevens Creek, Permanente Creek and Bay to their highest levels every year from just the tidal flow of the bay – even without any rain.
Please remember to stay on designated pathways and only observe, not disturb, the beautiful wildlife and habitats found in the North Bayshore and at Shoreline.
