Buncombe County Database Index 11/29/2011

Buncombe County has many databases, each of which falls into one of six main groupings: Finance and HR databases, Tax and Property databases, Geographic Information System databases, Criminal Justice databases, Health and Human Services and General County Department databases. The description and update frequency for indexed databases are as needed unless otherwise stated. Each database may be comprised of more than one file. The actual file layout of each file is provided, which identifies the name, type, and length of each field within the file. An asterisk at the end of the database name denotes that some or all fields are restricted from public access.

Many department databases are restricted due to confidentiality to the client. This is the case to most databases used in the departments of Health and Social Services. The County will produce all data that is considered a public record in accordance with State and Federal law.

All requests for computer database public records should be submitted in writing to the County Managers’ Office Suite 200 205 College Street Asheville, NC 28801. The County Manager will direct to the appropriate department head for authorization and release.

Distribution Media Cost In most cases, fees associated with fulfilling a request will be limited to the cost of the media. Requests for public records that require an extensive amount of resources may be assessed a special service charge in addition to the unit cost of the media.
