! S U P M A W

CELEBRI-KITTY

YOU ARE LITERALLY THE BEST The story of the Wampus Cat has many versions in Appalachian and Cherokee folklore. By most accounts, the creature is a half-cat, half-human who either protects the village or terrifies it. (For our purposes, we’ll go with the first.) The Wampus makes its home in the mountainous wood, loves to go out at night and has been described as both lazy and “quick to rile.” Just add “has a taste for craft beer” and “rides a bike to work” and the Wampus Cat is a WNC resident in full! In Issue One, Wampus sallied and sauntered among the region’s top-shelf restaurants, bars, retail stores and more. Now that he has settled in, he can ramble and gambol with Asheville’s cultural treasures, peculiarities, practitioners and media favorites. He even ventures to the outskirts of town for a prance among regional favorites, from Black Mountain to Hendersonville and beyond. A final thanks to you, Xpress readers, before we close the annals of another season of local celebration. You are, literally, the best!
