Every gift is important to Mount de Sales Academy. In a list of this magnitude, errors sometimes occur. The gifts reflected in this report were received by Mount de Sales Academy between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020. Greetings
FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Friends of Mount de Sales Academy, We can all agree that the world as we know it drastically changed in March 2020. Throughout it all, Mount de Sales Academy has remained a beacon of hope for our community, and we are grateful for our ability to continue serving our students. In this season of Thanksgiving, it is good to recognize the many blessings we have received here at MDSA over this last year, especially the blessing of our generous donors named in this Annual Report of Donors. To that end, I would like to share the top ten blessings I have seen this year at Mount de Sales: 1. We have experienced tremendous goodwill in others to build and unify our community. 2. In-person human interaction is valued more than ever. 3. Technology is recognized more as a tool than an end in itself, and we prefer personal interaction more than ever. 4. Young people have developed resilience with a clearer sense of priorities. We all value more what is truly important, even in simple ways! 5. The change of pace has made us reevaluate and align our routines in healthier ways. 6. We have grown in a deeper sense of self-knowledge in the time spent with our families. 7. We have gained gratitude for the ability to participate in Mass, even from home, and it has given us awe and appreciation for the sacraments. 8. We have a profound sense of the fragility of health, a greater sensitivity to those who are sick, and empathy for others experiencing fear of COVID-19. 9. Small things that were once ordinary mean more, such as in-person learning, being together, or having sports. The ordinary has become extraordinary. 10. There has been a sense that we are all in this together, making things work in creative ways for each other. These blessings are a reminder that God promises that the trials we face are never without fruit. In the coming weeks, as you prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas, take courage and peace in remembering your blessings. Though the season may look very different this year, “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together� (Colossians 1:17). Sincerely in Christ,

BOARD PRESIDENT BRIAN MACLEAN P'14 Q: During your eight-year tenure, what has been the greatest challenge and greatest success/ achievement for MDSA? A: During my eight years on the Board of Trustees, Mount de Sales Academy has seen tremendous changes and growth. We have managed enrollment through changing economies and now a pandemic, integrated the 1:1 technology program, and maintained a century old campus. Through it all, I am proud Mount de Sales always maintains its Catholic identity. We have completed many successful facilities projects, including the Gate House and Fourth Floor renovations, and the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life (CPASL) is nearing completion. Our graduates are consistently well prepared, and we are blessed with a strong community who works together for the success and well-being of the students Q: What have you witnessed in the students and the MDSA community during the pandemic? A: I have seen amazing teamwork and dedication from our teachers, administration, and staff. Our students have shown resilience and perseverance. They are willing to stay disciplined so they can be together and keep each other safe. All the while, everyone is doing his or her best to navigate educational and social obstacles. Our faculty and staff have successfully utilized technology as a tool to deliver education while maintaining the personal touch, including hosting Masses for each grade, celebrating our graduates, and holding three graduations.

Q: Over the last year, what are some highlights that stand out? A: Albert Einstein said, “Adversity introduces a man to himself.” It has been an honor to witness the true strength and character of the women and men at Mount de Sales Academy this year. Together, they managed a highly successful implementation of virtual learning during the pandemic. Through the hard work of our faculty and staff and the cooperation of students and families, MDSA navigated the safe reopening this fall. They executed well thought out and creative ways to ensure our seniors had a graduation. They had record fundraising with the first-ever Day of Giving, and as you drive through campus you can see the amazing progress on the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life. Q: What exciting things are on the horizon for MDSA? A: I think we’re all excited for life to get back to normal! I know our students can’t wait to enjoy in-person sports, dances, shows, and events. One of the most exciting things literally on the horizon is the completion and the opening of the CPASL, which is currently on schedule for this spring. Q: What is one thing you would like to ask of the MDSA community? A: Please keep MDSA in your thoughts and prayers, especially for the safety of our faculty, staff, and students. Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about MDSA so we continue to attract young women looking for the MDSA experience. As always, your continued support of the Dominican Sisters allows them to fulfill their important role at our school.

Our Financial Summary reflects the annual operating budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020. This budget was based on 505 students and approved by the Board of Trustees in February 2019.
Alumnae Giving In 2019-2020 our alumnae continued their four-year trend of growing participation, reaching 9% (exceeding the national average of 6-8% alumnae giving for all-girls schools)! With 386 alumnae donors during last fiscal year, that is an incredible 20% growth compared to 2016-17. Our Sailor Sisters give so much to Mount de Sales Academy, and this year even a pandemic could not stop them. They rallied together to deliver roses to our seniors during quarantine and hosted fun Homecoming Week activities so our students would not miss out on this exciting tradition. Thank you, alumnae, for all you give to Mount de Sales Academy!

Each donation we receive at Mount de Sales Academy is a true act of love to our school and our students.
