Charting Our Future. MOUNT DE SALES ACADEMY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Dear Friends of Mount de Sales Academy, Having worked at many schools, I can tell you that Mount de Sales Academy is a special place, a treasure really, unlike any I have experienced. Early on it is clear to me that the charism, or gift from the Holy Spirit, of Mount de Sales is the people. This is a community who banded together in the past to preserve the school and is coming together today to transform our campus and enhance the educational experience of every student. There is a litany of people who give of themselves for the glory of God at MDSA. It includes well-known advocates and unsung heroes. Everyone who has sacrificed for the good of our students and school has played a role in our success. I invite you to please help us achieve our minimum goal of $5 million to build a Center for Performing Arts and Student Life so that each girl can fulfill her potential with passion and grace through developing and offering her gifts at the service of humanity. We are well on our way to that goal! Now we need all members of our community to consider how they can make a gift (possibly one that is sacrificial and paid over time) and be a part of our success. We will reach our $5 million goal! Our success and momentum to date make me confident of this. My prayer is that, with your support and the support of many others, we are able to realize and exceed our fundraising goal for the benefit of our students. Your “Yes! will allow us to make our longtime dream of a Center for Performing Arts and Student Life a reality for current and future students. Now is the time to come together. Now is the time to make a difference. May the beauty of feminine strength and ingenuity flourish on the grounds of Mount de Sales Academy, planted in our tradition, and nurtured by the heart of each Sailor today and well into the future. Thank you for considering my request of support through prayer and a financial gift to the campaign. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless Mount de Sales Academy. Sincerely in Christ,

Sister Mary Raymond, O.P. Principal

CASE for Support God’s goodness is abundant at Mount de Sales Academy! Our students are thriving in their academics, faith, and personal growth. Now we need to provide the facilities that best serve our at-capacity enrollment. This is truly a historic time at MDSA as we set forth on the final leg of our journey to complete the Anchored in Excellence. Charting our Future. Capital Campaign. The sacrificial gifts of those who came forward early in the Pacesetter (silent) Phase of the campaign have charted our course toward success; students are already benefitting from the chapel expansion and fourth floor renovation. Based on the findings of the MDSA Strategic Plan, Middle States Accreditation process, and a campus-wide needs assessment and space-utilization plan, three critical improvement areas were identified.

1. A-Side Chapel Expansion – Completed August 2018 Our faith is the center of our lives and, literally, the Chapel of St. Francis de Sales is the center of our school. Students grow in faith and sisterhood when the entire student body gathers monthly to worship. The newly expanded chapel now accommodates all of our students, faculty and staff.

2. B-Side Fourth Floor Renovation – Completed August 2018 Renovating the fourth floor alleviated overcrowding resulting from increased enrollment over the past three decades. The new classrooms provide learning environments conducive to our high-caliber academics.

3. Center for Performing Arts and Student Life – Final Project to be Completed This building will provide the facilities needed to support a comprehensive performing arts program as well as countless opportunities for student academic growth and leadership development. In addition, the new Center for Performing Arts and Student Life will provide a wonderful venue to engage our entire community The capital campaign goal of $5 million or more, in addition to the $1.8 million allocated from a previous Fine Arts Center campaign, is essential to funding the estimated $12 million expansion projects. After careful consideration, the Board of Trustees recently voted to finance the remainder of the projects. By exceeding our $5 million goal, we will greatly lessen the financial burden on MDSA.

Q+A

What are the financial details of the campaign? This phase of the Capital Campaign, with an estimated total cost of $12 million, provides for the expansion of the Chapel of St. Francis de Sales and the renovation of the B-side Fourth Floor, both completed in the summer of 2018, and the forthcoming Center for Performing Arts and Student Life. The capital campaign goal of $5 million or more, in addition to the $1.8 million allocated from a previous Fine Arts Center campaign, is essential to funding the estimated $12 million expansion projects. Exceeding our minimum goal to raise $5 million will greatly reduce the financial burden of Mount de Sales Academy, which is currently debt free.

Why is now the right time? This undertaking required significant study and planning, which we did through the Strategic Plan process, an all-inclusive Needs and Space Assessment, and the Middle States Accreditation evaluation. All of the capital campaign projects address needs identified through this research. The Center for Performing Arts and Student Life addresses necessities identified early on in the administration of the Dominican Sisters. As stated above, a previous campaign for a Fine Arts Center launched in the late 1990s did not come to fruition but provided the $1.8 million held in reserve for this project. The completion of multiple capital projects over the last several years and the momentum of the Pacesetter (silent) Phase have positioned us for a successful finish to this final leg of the journey toward the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life. It is no longer a question of, “Will we be successful?” but rather, “When will we reach the goal?” and “Can we exceed the goal?”

How much should I give? Only you can answer this often-asked question! When contemplating your gift, please consider how you can maximize your contribution. We provide the following questions that may be helpful as you plan your sacrificial gift: • If you pay your pledge over a period of five years, does that enable you to increase your gift? (See Five Year Pledge Payment Plan) • Can you maximize your giving through an employer’s matching gift program? • Would you benefit from making payments monthly or quarterly with automatic charges to your credit card?

What is the impact on tuition and parking? The Board of Trustees is dedicated to maintaining an affordable tuition at MDSA. Therefore, we expect there will be minimal impact on tuition. The need for additional parking is apparent and a phased-in solution will take place over the next few years. This will include additional parking in the plans for the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life.
