We continue to provide valuable funding to those that support youth, families, seniors, children and vulnerable members of our community within Liverpool, Fairfield and the Northern Beaches. Additionally, for the first time, our contributions are also set to benefit the Central Coast community after our successful amalgamations with Halekulani Bowling Club and Club Wyong. 6

As we age, our bodies go through many physical changes. You may not be able to climb stairs as easily, or you may notice discomfort or inability to participate in normal daily activities. But sometimes, these changes may be signs of an underlying medical condition, such as heart valve disease1, or Aortic Stenosis - a common condition in which the heart valves do not work the way they should2. Here are some facts about Aortic Stenosis: •

Aortic stenosis affects 1 in 8 over the age of 753

It is a narrowing of the aortic valve, usually caused by calcification the valve, the makes it harder to pump blood around the body

Common symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, chest pain, palpitations but generally these are just attributed to normal signs of aging1

Aortic Stenosis is one of the most prevalent and serious conditions impacting elderly people in Australia3

The experts tell us around 50% of people who develop severe aortic stenosis symptoms will not survive within two years unless they have a valve replacement4. Early diagnosis is therefore essential for survival. To learn more about this disease, Mounties Care have teamed up with the people at Edward Lifesciences and will be running a FREE community education event on Tuesday 31st August 2021 at 11am. Together with Professor Dominic Leung, Head of Cardiology Liverpool Hospital we aim to increase awareness amongst the general population to ensure people understand common heart valve diseases, know what signs to look for and seek medical attention as soon as possible. The education session will include a free morning tea. HOW MOUNTIES CARE HAS HELPED OUR MEMBERS I first heard about Mounties Care through my daughter who is an employee of the Mounties Group. I recently had a hip operation and needed assistance in my home with general duties during my recovery. I also suffer from arthritis in my hands and find many household duties very difficult. Mounties Care were able to talk to me about my options and assist in arranging a regular helper to come to my home once a fortnight. I now get my floors vacuumed, bathroom cleaned, assistance pegging out washing and a lovely chat. This has had a huge positive impact on my recovery and general day to day tasks. I could only do limited tasks over a period a several days and now my helper gets everything done in a few hours. I am very grateful to the lovely people from Mounties Care for helping me as prior to their support I felt that I was waiting in the queue and not clearly understanding the processes to apply for My Aged Care assistance.
