and we have you, our members, to thank for making this possible. The new helicopter is one of the most advanced aeromedical helicopters in Australia and now branded as the Mounties Care - CareFlight Helicopter, dedicated to saving lives in Greater Sydney, the Central Coast and Blue Mountains.

We are proud to announce this year Mounties Group has pledged $651,715 to local community groups via Category 1 ClubGRANTS, almost doubling our 2020 contributions at the same time last year. We continue to provide valuable funding to those that support youth, families, seniors, children and vulnerable members of our community within Liverpool, Fairfield and the Northern Beaches. Additionally, for the first time, our contributions are also set to benefit the Central Coast community after our successful amalgamations with Halekulani Bowling Club and Club Wyong. 6

HOME SAFETY Most adults over the age of 65 want to stay in their current home for as long as possible. This can be difficult for an adult child who wants to ensure that their parents are safe at home. But aging in place is important for independence and can be successful with proper preparation. Some tips include: •

Addressing safety concerns to prevent falls,

Provide support for your parents to stay active,

Understanding how to best use technology (banking, video calling etc),

•

Prepare for emergencies by making sure contacts are close at hand, first-aid kits are close by, and lifesaving skills are understood and practised.

To help our senior members have confidence to stay at home for as long as possible, the team at Mounties Care have pulled together two very important courses which will be conducted during September and August. 26

FIRST AID AND CPR COURS FOR SENIORS

First Aid for Seniors is a specifically designed 2-hour course which will focus on CPR skills, heart attack & stroke, fractures & dislocation, sprains & strains, choking, and envenomation (venomous bites). With help from Mitchell Harris who has been running courses in the local area for over 6 years, the course will cover a range of situations and scenarios that an older person may encounter in everyday living. Mitch offers practical tips and potentially lifesavings skills to keep you and your loved ones safe. Course cost is $60, and every participant will receive a take home CPR chart and first aid manual.

TEA & TECHNOLOGY

If nothing else, lockdowns and restrictions over the past 18months have taught us that being ‘tech savvy’ is vitally important for communication and access. QR code entry is now commonplace, the future of banking is set to go on-line, some airlines have announced that they will permanently close service and sales desks at all

airports and lounges, leaving passengers to deal with cancellations and last-minute booking changes themselves at self-service kiosks, online or through a call centre, vouchers (like the NSW Dine and Discover vouchers) are accessible via APPS, doctors are providing virtual consultations through telehealth and many public safety alerts are now mostly done through APP or website. The list will continue to rise, and we are concerned some of our members will be left behind, excluded from this digital wave causing isolation and disconnection.

To remedy this, Mounties Care has teamed up with the digital experts from YourLink who will provide a relaxed, hands-on technology event specifically designed to help seniors learn how to use a phone or ipad, download apps, how to communicate via video, search for personal interests on-line and learn about cyber safety! If you have trouble keeping up with technology or are frustrated by it, this session is a must!
