MY HOME IS YOUR HOME
Club GRANTS recipient Just one of many Mounties Group grant recipients, The Ted Noffs Foundation today continues the legacy of Ted Noffs by providing essential services for young people and their families who are experiencing drug and alcohol problems and related trauma. Its range of programs for young people are all based on leading research, continually evaluated and government endorsed.
The grant received has also allowed them to produce their My Home is Your Home project which utilises digital art to link young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to their community. This program allows the centre to let the youth create digital art and form a sense of belonging in a safe space. The beneďŹ ts of this program allow youth to form a sense of connection to their local community.
The Street University Liverpool is a youth centre for young people between the ages of 10 to 25 years. They provide a safe space for those young people and the community. They offer a variety of community-based workshops, life skill workshops and creative arts focused workshops. Their main goal is to direct people into employment, entrepreneurship or alternative education pathways.
Mounties Group is proud to be a part of the Ted Noffs Foundation; a place of acceptance, safety and community connections.
Staff are hands-on with a lot of their groundwork, engaging with a lot of the young community members that come through to the centre. The Street University team see what their needs are, where they are in their programs and referring them onto their in-house councillors where appropriate. A great aspect of the youth centre is the many workshops and programs they have to cater for the young people within the community. One initiative is their food program - Street Harvest, that works in collaboration and in partnership with OzHarvest and Bakers Delight, where the centre receives a donation of fresh food and produce each week in order to help young people and community members who suffer from food insecurities in the local community. The program aims to help those disadvantaged individuals have access to healthy nutritional foods.

state of origin Mounties Group is proud of our girls for representing us as NSW State of Origin Representatives on Friday 21 June at North Sydney Oval. 18s - Janaya Bent (17) and Filomina Hanisi (18) Opens - Shaylee Bent (19) and Simaima Taufa (25)
SIMAIMA TAUFA What does it mean to you to represent NSW? Representing NSW is an incredible honour and a humbling one too and it is a jersey that I will forever be proud of wearing because we know how hard it is to earn one and to maintain it. We are just the safe keepers of the jersey and to be entrusted with the responsibility of guarding and protecting one and ensuring that I leave it in a better state then how I received is a responsibility that
I will embrace and do my best to succeed in. Representing NSW is one of my fondest rugby league memories of my dad (deceased) watching our game in 2016 at CBUS stadium and smiling as he watched on. Representing NSW every opportunity I get is always a meaningful one because I know how hard it is to receive one. How did you get to where you are? I’m a firm believer that people come into your life and situations presents itself for a reason and for me, my career kicked off that way. I played rugby union and picked up rugby league because my friends played it ever since then I’ve never really looked back. I went down to St Mary’s to play a local nine-a-side game filling in numbers and it just happened to be a trial for the women’s interstate team which kicked off my career now I play local club for Mounties and from there have had the opportunity to get contracted for the Sydney Roosters be part of the elite performance squad and play for New South Wales and New South Wales City. Grateful for where my career in rugby league has led me to and the opportunity it’s presented me with the people I have in my life.
Group December - January 2019 1 6 Mounties WHAT’S ON AT MOUNTIES
SHAYLEE BENT What does it mean to you to represent NSW? I came into the NSW Blues camp with a whole different perspective to what I have now. Being able to acknowledge and learn the blues history and discover how much the blues means to me while being alongside a great bunch of girls made me realise how much being presented my jersey really means, the feeling is like no other and I’m just so blessed and grateful to be able to have the opportunity to be a blues. How did you get to where you are at? I wouldn’t be where I am without my junior club, Glenmore Park Brumbies and my current club Mounties. Both clubs enhanced my development as a player and as a person and without them I wouldn’t have been selected for the NSW City team and NSW Origin!

six myths about
activity & Aging
Myth 1: There’s no point to exercising. I’m going to get old anyway. Fact: Regular physical activity helps you look and feel younger and stay independent longer. It also lowers your risk for a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s and dementia, heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, high blood pressure, and obesity. And the mood benefits of exercise can be just as great at 70 or 80 as they were at 20 or 30.
active later in life often show greater physical and mental improvements than their younger counterparts. If you’ve never exercised before, or it’s been a while, you won’t be encumbered by the same sports injuries that many regular exercisers experience in later life. In other words, there aren’t as many kilometres on your clock, so you’ll quickly start reaping the rewards. Just begin with gentle activities and build up from there.
Myth 2: Exercise puts me at risk of falling. Fact: Regular exercise, by building strength and stamina, prevents loss of bone mass and improves balance, reducing your risk of falling.
Myth 5: I can’t exercise because I’m disabled. Fact: Chair-bound people face special challenges but can lift light weights, stretch, and do chair aerobics, chair yoga, and chair Tai Chi to increase their range of motion, improve muscle tone and flexibility, and promote cardiovascular health. Many swimming pools offer access to wheelchair users and there are adaptive exercise programs for wheelchair sports such as basketball.
Myth 3: It’s too frustrating: I’ll never be the athlete I once was. Fact: Changes in hormones, metabolism, bone density, and muscle mass mean that strength and performance levels inevitably decline with age, but that doesn’t mean you can no longer derive a sense of achievement from physical activity or improve your health. The key is to set lifestyle goals that are appropriate for your age. And remember: a sedentary lifestyle takes a much greater toll on athletic ability than biological aging. Myth 4: I’m too old to start exercising. Fact: You’re never too old to get moving and improve your health! In fact, adults who become
Myth 6: I’m too weak or have too many aches and pains. Fact: Getting moving can help you manage pain and improve your strength and selfconfidence. Many older people find that regular activity not only helps stem the decline in strength and vitality that comes with age but improves it. The key is to start off gently.

Q&A
BY RICHMOND RESIDENTIAL MOUNTIES SPORTS PARTNER
DEPOSITS REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A PROPERTY What are the acceptable types of funds you can use as a deposit for purchasing a property? There are several acceptable types of funds that can be used to help purchase a property, these include the following: cash your savings, gift from family member, use of parent’s equity in their property, equity in another property owned by you, proceeds from a sale, or inheritance. You may qualify for the First Home Owners Grant, this can also be used as a deposit however, it may not be enough to cover the full deposit needed therefore other funds will be required to meet the banks criteria. Can I use a personal loan as my deposit to purchase a property? Most lenders would not treat this as an acceptable way to raise a deposit. Some lenders advertise 100% home loans, how does this work? To offer a 100% home loan the bank would require two properties as security for the one loan. Keep in mind that the banks’ lending criteria is always the same. For 100% home loans they would be simply spreading the debt across the two properties. If you have any other questions regarding how you can buy a property or home loan enquiries, call Angela at Richmond Residential for an appointment to discuss your personal scenario.
