MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

CONCERT SEASON 2016/17

As a world-class centre for arts education and training, we are committed to providing education and performance opportunities for our students as well as showcasing exemplary artistic achievement in music and speech arts. From reggae legends and jazz aficionados to eastern classical masters to Canadian astronauts, this year’s line-up quite literally has something for everyone. At MRU Conservatory, we celebrate world-class achievements and stellar performances. Truthfully, no other guest could embody these traits quite like Colonel Chris Hadfield. In addition to being a engineer, pilot and astronaut, he is an inspired storyteller and artist whose images, words and notes have been celebrated globally. Traveling his home planet with engaging presentations and guitar in hand, he is an inspiring role model for the value of music in all our lives. The Bella Concert Hall is an award-winning venue with perfect acoustics to amplify the finest artistic voices of our time. For upcoming artists, visit mru.ca/enjoy. We are so pleased to have Chris Hadfield in our space at the Bella. Mark DeJong Artistic Program Coordinator

MESSAGE FROM THE CONSERVATORY

Welcome to the Music to Your Ears concert season at the Bella Concert Hall in the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts! We are so excited to launch our inaugural season featuring seven separate series with over 25 diverse events.

GOOD MORNING, EARTH! That is how Colonel Chris Hadfield – writing on Twitter – woke up the world everday while living for five months aboard the International Space Station. Through his 21 years as an astronaut, three spaceflights and 2600 orbits of Earth, Colonel Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into our collective consciousness not felt since humanity first walked on the Moon. Called “the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong,” Colonel Hadfield continues to bring the marvels of science and space travel to everyone he encounters.
