Free Before and After Care starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. ($5 fee charged for every 15 minutes after 5:30 p.m. or portion thereof).

Open Houses and Showcases are held at the end of each camp. Invitations will be sent home with campers regarding the date and the time.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If your course is cancelled, you may either transfer to another course or receive a refund. WITHDRAWAL POLICY: To be eligible for a refund, written withdrawal from a course/seminar must be received no later than four working days before the start date (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays). Written withdrawal received less than four days is not eligible for a refund. CATS New Themed Curriculum Every Week! Experiment with e-scrapping and make some freaky modifications to ordinary digital images. Let your imagination run wild as you create colourful collages, mixed-media sculptures, papier mâché creations and much more in the art studio. Develop original skits, short plays and puppet shows based on the week’s themes. Create chemical reactions and make multi-coloured slime, build edible volcanoes and demonstrate conservation by making recycled paper in science. Magical Adventures Design personalized cloaks, wizard hats, wands and clay amulets. Create original wizard, hobbit and sorceress trading cards, and your own papier mâché owls. Concoct bubbling, slimy, chunky brews and potions in the Professor’s Laboratory. These queasy concoctions can even be eaten by those who dare. Use magical spells to create mysterious troll crystals, dragon drool and invisible ink. Develop skits and short plays based on popular mystical novels and movies. Create mysterious monster masks and magical puppets. Design and post original Wizardly WebPages on the Internet and use magical software to alter digital pictures. Movers and Shakers Create, design, build, move and learn! Design buildings and forts and build them out of recycled materials. Experiment with chemical reactions, build a toothpick bridge with marshmallows, and make milk rainbows! Take the fun outdoors to learn team skills, throwing and catching, and introductory soccer techniques. Rising Stars Junior Mime, character study, performance creation and auditioning techniques provide you with an excellent start towards becoming a Rising Star. Learn how breath, posture, pitch and performance come into play as you belt out your favourite tune. Junior Field Trips A new adventure every day! This camp will keep you busy at a different location each day of the week. Ever wondered what a peacock looks like in person? Campers will also have access to MRU Recreation’s swimming pool to ensure the action never stops. Junior Camps For children and youth 9-14 years of age (or 8 entering grade 4) Groups divided according to age Time: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday FREE supervision from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-5:30 p.m. Academie Artiste, Reel-2-Real, Rising Stars, and Tech Academy swim daily. Academie Artiste Follow in the footsteps of the art masters in our Academie Artiste camp. In three studio classes – drawing, painting and sculpture – you’ll learn the six major elements essential for creating your own masterpieces. In art history, you’ll learn about the movers and shakers of the art world from the Renaissance to the present. Finish the program by showcasing your art pieces in the Academie Artiste art show. Canadian Natural Junior Innovators MRU Kids presents Canadian Natural Resources Junior Innovators, a one-week camp designed to encourage youth to develop creative ways to solve community-based problems using technological innovation and entrepreneurship skills. Design and create a machine that can roll a ball through at least six items in Invention Area. Crack codes and learn creative ways to solve problems in Decipher Club. Invent new animals or aliens to survive in specific conditions in Creation Zone. Help solve a community-based problem using creative solutions and technology while blogging about your progress in Community-Me. Junior Innovators will present their projects in an end-of-camp showcase. Campers may enjoy combining this camp with Junior Leaders offered in the previous or following week. Junior Leaders MRU Kids presents Junior Leaders, a one-week camp designed to encourage leadership skills in youth. Learn about responsible decision making, goal setting and peer mentoring. Explore the topics of bullying and peer pressure through a variety of fun, skill-building activities such as Survivor group challenges, interactive life-size maze problem solving and team trust-building exercises. Junior leaders participate in a group-directed art project to encourage leadership in the community, which will be presented in an end-of-camp showcase to parents and MRU community members. Campers may enjoy combining this camp with Junior Innovators offered in the previous or following week. Tech Academy Get a well-rounded techno-education with one of MRU Kids’ Tech Academy camps. Tech Academy A Engineer and program a Lego robot. Develop a video game using backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects. Learn basic interview techniques, take pictures and draft up your very own e-journal as an e-journalist. Design your own website in one of our state-of-the-art computer labs. Tech Academy B Build and program a Lego Mindstorms Robot. Learn how to display a sequence of images using different animation techniques in this innovative technology-focused program. Develop a video game using backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects. Explore the wonderful world of science as you create glowing jello, test rocks for their calcium content, perform a dissection, find out how much vitamin C, iron and sugar there is in your favorite cereal, and build volcanoes. Reel-2-Real Film School Work as part of a film crew to plan, shoot and edit footage and create your very own mini motion picture. Learn the elements of filmmaking, including storyboards, scripting, editing, auditioning, casting and screening, as well as the do’s and don’ts of directing. Rising Stars Triple Threat Become a triple threat while acting, singing and dancing your way to the top! From country to classical, you’ll be exposed to all types of music, dance and performance. This camp provides an opportunity to develop new skills while increasing your current performing abilities. Multi-Sport Ages 5-9 Refine your batting, catching and throwing techniques on the T-ball/softball diamond. Boulder and belay your way to the top of Mount Royal University’s rock climbing wall. Get out on the soccer field and practice ball handling, shooting and passing. Learn to serve, rally and develop your forehand/backhand winners on the tennis court. Golf Ages 9-14 Spend most of each day on Calgary driving ranges and courses practicing the swing, grip, driving, chipping and putting skills you’ve learned in group lessons. Don’t forget the rules of the game, safety, etiquette and golf trivia. Instruction is provided by Canadian Professional Golfing Association (CPGA) professional instructors. Outdoor Adventures Ages 9-14 Put your safety and survival skills to the test while hiking in Kananaskis and Fish Creek Park. Experience the waters of Glenmore reservoir by canoe, kayak or dragon boat, and get some valuable paddling tips from certified instructors at the Calgary Canoe Club. Tackle hills, bumps, dirt and puddles on your mountain bike day trips. For your child to participate in this camp they must have an intermediate skill level on a bicycle. If you are unsure of your child’s biking level, please contact our office at 403.440.6001 and we would be happy to administer a short test to determine your child’s skill level. This requirement is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our campers. Sports Highlights Ages 9-14 Sample our most popular MRU Kids Sports programming with the Sports Highlights camp. Hone your dribbling, passing and shooting skills in soccer and go for the goal on tournament day. Gear up for some moderate to challenging mountain bike rides around the city using on- and off-road trails. Climb farther than you’ve climbed before on Mount Royal University’s state-of-the-art climbing wall. Develop a better volley and serve as you learn game strategy on our tennis courts. For your child to participate in this camp, they must have an intermediate skill level on a bicycle. Cougars Gym Highlights Ages 9-14 Partnering up with the coaching experts at Mount Royal University’s Cougar Camps, MRU Kids presents Cougars Gym Highlights. Learn and practice your skills in badminton, volleyball, squash and basketball. A skill-focused camp for young athletes, Cougars Gym Highlights combines fun pick-up games with quality coaching and instruction. ConocoPhillips Youth Science Academy All ConocoPhillips Youth Science Academy participants receive a $100 scholarship towards the cost of the program. The Youth Science Academy camp provides a solid introduction to students pursuing the post-secondary science and/or engineering stream. For returning students, the camp builds on the knowledge and skills gained through participation in the Tech Academy camp. Gain exposure to post-secondary topics in astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology and engineering which have been modified for the targeted age group. Expand your knowledge of these subjects in a creative, exploratory environment while preparing for study at a higher level. Projects may include designing a roller coaster, building a bridge, combusting gummy bears and extracting caffeine from tea while simultaneously learning higher-level science. MRU Leaders-in-Training (L.I.T.) MRU Kids presents MRU Leaders-in-Training! This two-week camp will train and prepare the next generation of leaders to reach their full potential. This fun and fast-paced camp allows you to complete your Standard CPR First Aid and enter the workplace with the necessary skills and training to be successful. Learn how to develop and implement a lesson plan, create a resume and cover letter, and become a leader in the workplace. All camp content is designed to emphasize the value of team-building. Have a blast learning new skills while rock-climbing and swimming. After you complete your training through MRU L.I.T., we offer you an opportunity to volunteer with us for up to two weeks in order to provide you with valuable work experience to complement your newly developed skills. Lunch Program MRU Kids is pleased to provide a hearty and healthy lunch provided by Chartwells. Please see our weekly menu options on mtroyal.ca/mrukids. Lunch programs must be ordered 3 business days prior to the camp start date. Campers registered in a two-week camp should register in the two-week lunch plan. Campers will not be able to join the lunch program in the second week of a two-week camp if they did not register for the full two-week lunch plan. Still keeping lunchtime fun!
