Kofi Wiafe
Supply Chain Extension Certificate Graduate “I had a job. Basically everything was great.” Kofi recalls. “But, I was looking for more. I didn’t want to get stuck in a position where there was no growth and no opportunities.” He approached his manager who suggested MRU’s Supply Chain Management courses. Within two short years, he completed his certification requirements. “Committing yourself to a program while working full-time really shows the type of drive a person has,” he notes. “Trust me, there were roadblocks, but I just kept on pushing.” Kofi explains, “Sometimes it’s really easy to quit. You’ve got to let your fears go and take the next steps.” “It’s all worth it.” Kofi suggests. “This transition has given me financial benefits, room for opportunity for my future and peace of mind.”

Paul Gray
Personal Fitness Trainer Paul Gray is a glass-half-full type of guy. Despite being diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (a rare form of children’s cancer) upon starting his PFT program at MRU, he persevered and graduated the program this last spring. His process of learning and road to recovery was exemplified by the culture of camaraderie within the program. “The support I received from my fellow students both in the year I started and the year I finished was exceptional,” he admits. “I am so appreciative for this program, the knowledge base, the instructors, the MRU facility and my fellow students that I feel it was one of the best decisions I ever made.” As a personal fitness trainer, he is now focused on supporting others’ adventures and fitness goals, while he continues to train and heal. “My success is just thankfulness and gratitude to be alive and with hopes and dreams of skiing, climbing and hiking across the Grand Canyon again.” With that attitude, he’ll be at the Grand Canyon in no time.

Dawn O’Byrne
Education Assistant Certificate “I actually come here a few years ago to do open studies,” Dawn O’Byrne starts. Like many students, she didn’t feel like her marks were what she wanted them to be, so she took some time away from school. “I really struggled in the past to find a career direction,” she admits, “and I felt like my focus at that time was more on my identity.” “Now,” she confesses, “I feel like my focus is on where I see myself careerwise.” With a desire to help people and a passion for learning, she enrolled in MRU Continuing Education’s Education Assistant program. She is currently in her practicum placement at Bishop Carroll High School pursuing her passion in the classroom. “The difference between then and now is that I take my work very seriously,” she says, “I’m more academic now and my grades are wicked.” A true educator, O’Byrne is enthusiastic to share her experience, “I feel like I’m living my dream,” she says, “I couldn’t be happier.”
