The Office of Security and Safety hopes that you’ve enjoyed your summer and wishes you a safe and exciting Fall semester filled with new opportunities and continued academic success! As you settle into the daily routine of campus life, the Office of Security and Safety would like to share important safety information to help continue keep our campus safe.
The Security and Safety department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist you with your security needs. Whether you need an ID card, a parking permit, or to speak with a member of the Security and Safety team, you can visit our office in person or call us at 845-5693200 for assistance.
Our office is located inside Garden Apartments 1 (GA 1), which is the building to the left upon entering the campus main entrance.

Do you need a parking permit?
Yes! Students and employees are required to have a parking permit while parked on campus. Register online for your parking permit and then come see us for pick up. Questions? Email parking@msmc.edu.
What if I own more than one vehicle?
You can register all of your vehicles with our office however, only one parking permit is issued per person. Please use your parking permit in whichever registered vehicle you are driving on campus.
What do I do if my parking permit is lost, stolen, or destroyed?
Please visit our office for assistance.
I’m parked on campus but having car trouble?
Vehicle won't start? Locked out of your vehicle?
We can help get you back on the road!
Our Security Officers assist with vehicle lockouts and jump starts.

ID Cards
ID cards can be printed in our office 24/7. If you lose your ID card, please let us know immediately. Call 845-569-3200 or email idcard@msmc.edu and then visit our office for a replacement ID card.
If you need access added to your ID card or have any other issues, please call us or visit our office for assistance.
Pedestrian Safety
Remember, everyone is a pedestrian!
Drivers
• Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk
• Follow the posted speed limit.
• Use caution when backing up
• Use extra caution during inclement weather conditions.
Pedestrians
• Use crosswalks and sidewalks.
• If no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic and as far away as possible.
In the event of an emergency, call 911.
If you ever feel unsafe on campus, whether day or night, please call Security at 845-569-3200 or extension 3200 from any phone on campus and ask for an escort. For your safety, there are 23 emergency blue lights throughout the campus. Push the button to speak to a Security Officer and a Security Officer will be dispatched to your location.

Always report suspicious behavior to Security at 845-569-3200.
• Try to walk with a friend(s) at night.
• When parking on or off campus, lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight.
• Take care of your friends and never hesitate to call if someone is ill or in distress.
• Exercise caution when using social media. Only accept friend requests from people you know.
• If a job opportunity looks too good to be true, it's probably a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Never provide financial information, such as banking information, social security numbers, credit card information, or agree to cash any check from anyone you do not know.
• Lock your car door, room door, and/ or office door when you leave.
• Check to make sure the door is locked.
• Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, exercise caution.
• Accompany a friend when they are traveling, if possible.
• If you lose your wallet, immediately call your bank(s) to notify them of lost bank cards.
• If you lose your Mount ID card, immediately notify Security and request a replacement ID card. Visit our office.

Fall Semester 2024
The Annual Safety Report contains information regarding crime reporting procedures, security services, policies, personal safety tips, sex offender registry information, and details regarding the access control and security of campus facilities. In addition, the Annual Safety Report contains information regarding missing student notification policies, timely warning policies, and the College’s emergency notification system, called MSMC Alert. The Annual Safety Report contains important information regarding crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and other important safety information.

Due to the incidents of fires and other safety concerns, Mount Saint Mary College prohibits the use, possession, and storage of hover boards and electric bicycles campus wide. This prohibition extends to all self-balancing boards and scooters and any similar equipment that is self-driven and either motor or battery powered. This policy will be in effect until safety standards have been adequately developed and implemented across all models with the approval of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Narcan Kits and AEDs Installed
Opioid Emergency Kits - The MSMC Health Services Department in conjunction with the Orange County Department of Health secured over 45 Narcan (Naloxone) Opioid Emergency Kits free of charge that have been deployed throughout the campus by our Facilities team. Each kit consists of a red metal housing case that contains Narcan nasal spray as well as Fentanyl test strips. The Orange County Department of Health will replace the contents of the boxes after use for free. The kits have been installed next to building AED units as well as in the elevator banks and lobbies of residential buildings.
AED Units - AED units are installed in various locations throughout the campus.

AEDs are located on campus in the following buildings:
• Aquinas Hall - Ground floor outside of the Commuter Lounge and on the first floor by the Natural Sciences labs.
• Dominican Center - Ground Floor behind the Reference Desk.
• Guzman Hall - Outside of the multipurpose auditorium.
• Health Services Office - Guzman Hall.
• Hudson Hall -First Floor - Lobby.
• Kaplan Center - Lobby near the administrative offices, and the athletic training room.
• Bishop Dunn Memorial SchoolNurse's office.
CPR/First Aid Training
The Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness offers CPR/First Aid Training the last Sunday of each month.

Fire safety is a team effort. While all of our buildings are equipped with fire suppression systems and sprinkler systems, it’s always prudent to follow these safety tips to minimize the risk of fire:
• Ensure there is always a clear and safe way to exit the room. Refer to the room or building evacuation plan.
• Do not smoke or light candles in any residential building.
• Be alert when cooking.
• Cooking is the cause of over 80% of campus housing fires.
• Do not cover or manipulate any smoke detector or fire control dev ice.
• Do not use unapproved lights in dorm rooms
• Do not use extension cords for a permanent power source; only use a UL

approved power strip. Never overload an outlet or place a rug or other material over it.
• Never use a frayed or damaged electrical cord. If you are having electrical problems, notify Security (on campus) or the building manager (off campus) immediately.
• Leave the building immediately if you hear the fire alarm.
• Speak up if you see a fire hazard. Campus safety is a team effort.
If you smell an odor of gas or hear whistling near a gas stove:
• Leave the area immediately!
• Call Security (on campus) or your gas company (if you reside off campus).
• Do not smoke or light any type of flame.
