'$ %-.(%'$0 /($/.-= As a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated facility, Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center was one of the original NCI designated cancer centers in 1971, marking more than 40 years since maintaining its status as a comprehensive cancer center.

Expanded Expertise for Our Patients Our affiliation with Columbia University drives active collaboration between both entities, creating an integrated approach to patient care. Treatment plans are informed and reviewed by both organizations during regular Tumor Board meetings, ensuring the most sophisticated, evidence-based methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. Patients of the Braman Cancer Center are treated and followed on the same technology platform as Columbia University, allowing for seamless communication and care between physicians.


A World-Renowned Leader Dr. Rustgi’s interdisciplinary research focuses on tumor initiation, the tumor microenvironment, and tumor metastasis in the context of gastrointestinal cancers. With over 300 publications, his work has appeared in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Cancer Cell, Genes and Development, Gastroenterology, and Journal of Clinical Investigation

For over a decade, Mount Sinai's partnership with Columbia University's Irving Medical Center has provided enhanced expertise and care for the community. This newest affiliation, with Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, will allow for additional innovation in cancer research, prevention, early detection, therapy, and survivorship, through personalized and comprehensive care directly for their patients.

Building on a Foundation of Expert, Accessible Cancer Care With a focus on patient-centric care, the Braman Cancer Center will create the needed access to clinical expertise, robust support services, research, trials, and the newest technologies, all housed in an ultramodern facility, with exceptional views of Biscayne Bay. Through meticulous space planning that focuses on the patient flow and experience, individuals will receive the clinical and supportive care they need in a bright, spacious, healing environment. Building on the fundamentals of creating and maintaining close relationships with their physicians and care teams, patients are personally guided through customized treatment programs that address both their physical and emotional well-being, promoting self-management and empowerment.


Delivering a Patient-Centric Approach to Care The Braman Cancer Center will be an intimate and supportive environment for patients and their loved ones, offering a multitude of support services to engage individuals and promote a holistic approach to their well-being. These services include but are not limited to the following: Nutrition classes Yoga, stretching, and Reiki classes Physical therapy (lymphedema) and massage Meditation classes Dedicated spa, offering regular skin care and makeup lessons Networking groups for men, women, and young adults Caregiver support groups Lunch and Learn opportunities Pet therapy Music therapy

In addition, the Braman Cancer Center will continue to offer same or next-day appointments, and expanded telemedicine appointments for patients seeking care. These expanded services will create unparalleled access to physicians, diagnoses, and treatment options, when they need it most. In addition, the Irma and Norman Braman Cancer Center will greatly increase the capacity for oncology urgent care services, allowing for expeditious assessment and early intervention to avoid unplanned emergency department visits and unnecessary hospitalization for patients who are already immunocompromised.


The Braman Cancer Center will ensure continuity of care and accessibility for patients, by offering all clinical and supportive services in one location. The building will expand imaging and diagnostic capabilities, and offer physician appointments, treatments, and all associated services, under one roof. The new cancer center will house a comprehensive wellness program, promoting ongoing education for both patients and caregivers. The program’s team will include the following: Personal navigators to help with clinical, emotional, and financial needs Psychologists to help direct and manage counseling, activities, nutrition, and entertainment opportunities


Building for the Future of Cancer Care The Irma and Norman Braman Cancer Center will offer patients access to the newest facilities in South Florida, overlooking Biscayne Bay. Patients can be assured their treatments include access to the latest trials, research protocols, and technologies while being treated in a soothing, healing environment by expert physicians. The Braman Cancer Center is designed to evolve with the ever-changing medical landscape, built to incorporate emerging technologies, as they are developed. The new building will also allow for the expansion of support services and amenities for patients and their families. This includes the addition of an integrated therapist and holistic support services, including acupuncture therapy.


Building Our Expertise We offer our community the only Ivy League affiliation of its kind in South Florida, backed by Columbia University. The new cancer center will offer patients access to a dedicated genetics counselor, working in conjunction with Columbia University. We are dedicated to the continual recruitment of top physicians around the country, aided by our affiliation, awards, and accreditations. Our cancer center holds a Commission on Cancer accreditation. We are committed to expanding access to research and clinical trials, with approximately 50 active trials underway at any time.


Cancer Care for a New Era The Braman Cancer Center will deliver accessible, expert, leading-edge cancer care to a diverse population of patients and will include a long list of unique features. Radiation oncology unit with 2 linear accelerators, CT simulator, and high-dose-rate brachytherapy Advanced imaging center, featuring MRI, CT, combined PET/CT, and ultrasound A dedicated Breast Center to accommodate mammography, breast ultrasound, and stereotactic (image-guided) breast biopsy Comprehensive treatment area with 56 spaces for chemotherapy, including 38 semiprivate bays, 10 private rooms, 4 fast-track bays, and 4 cold-cap spaces 55 exam rooms Phlebotomy stations for up to 10 patients Dedicated clinical research space Lymphedema treatment rooms Rehabilitation gym Physician offices and staff work areas Architecturally distinct lobby with welcome center, donor lounge, and conference center Supportive services, including a wig salon, spa, meditation areas, and integrative therapy rooms Café and on-site retail pharmacy

Every patient will have access to extensive support services, semiprivate chemotherapy suites, light-filled lounges, spaces for complementary therapies, and state-of-the-art radiation oncology technology. In addition, the interior spaces will feature a curated collection of artwork, selected to support healing. At the Irma and Norman Braman Cancer Center, clinical excellence and comfort will converge to produce the best patient experience throughout every step of their cancer journey.
