Like a car, a home needs an MOT once a year reviewing your mortgage, insurance and even basic cost-cutting measures... here is Your Move’s expert advice to help along the way.
Words by Dina Karim
PAYING A MORTGAGE OFF The biggest money saving tip for your home is to pay your mortgage off as early as possible - remember, your mortgage is the biggest debt you will ever have. However, the workings behind it need to be assessed carefully to avoid common pitfalls.
HOME INSURANCE Failing to switch home insurance costs Brits £1.7 billion*. By combining comparison sites' results, you will massively increase the number of quotes. Step 1: Ensure you’re getting the correct cover. A common mistake is to cover the house's market value (the amount it could be sold for), meaning many people are over insured and paying way too much. The amount you cover, the 'sum insured', should be the 'rebuild value'. Commissioning a survey is the most reliable method to establish the rebuild value, but will be expensive unless you're getting one anyway when buying a new home. A less accurate, but quicker, option is The Association of British Insurers calculator.
energy providers, exactly like insurance, can end up saving you hundreds of pounds - and this is the perfect time to do it with all of the big six energy
providers recently delivering hikes of up to nine per cent. Switching to a meter may save you over £240 a year. The rule of thumb is that if there are more
W H AT T H E E X P E R T S S AY JULIA CASIMO Partner at John Kerr Chartered Accountants “Current returns on cash savings are generally very poor, so making a repayment can make sense. Many people still hold endowment plans, which were originally set up to repay mortgages. These are often poorly performing, especially if invested in ‘withprofits’ policies and overdue for a review. In many cases, people would be better off surrendering and paying off their mortgage. This is a decision however, which should not be taken without advice.”
DAVID ROBERTS Associate at Robinsons Chartered Financial Planners “Most Lenders allow mortgage holders to overpay on their mortgage by up to 10 per cent of the outstanding mortgage balance per year. If you're on a low standard variable rate (SVR), there's usually no limit to the amount you can overpay. Now would be the time to take advantage of this situation even if your overpayment was only £50pm or £100pm. By overpaying this will help build up equity in your property. The more equity you have in your property the lower the rate you should be able to obtain.”
Step 2: Once you’ve found the cheapest cover double check the quotes. Step 3: Check special deals. A few companies, such as Aviva, Barclays and Churchill have special deals on now.
ENERGY SAVING Loyalty doesn’t pay. Switching 18 Your Move
ANDY GRAY Head of mortgages at Barclays “We know that other financial factors are likely to bite this year, but homeowners can’t afford to forget about their mortgage. The cost of petrol or rising energy bills may be beyond their control, but homeowners have a golden opportunity now to ensure they have made plans to ensure their mortgage remains affordable through 2011 and beyond."
bedrooms in your home than people you should consider getting a water meter. With a water meter though, your bill relies on your consumption. Uswitch and the Consumer Council for Water offer calculators to check if a water meter is right for you. Other excellent ways to save money at home through intelligent energy use includes double-glazing, using draft excluders, low energy light bulbs and an immersion tank jacket. Just by turning your heating down by one per cent saves you 10 per cent on your central heating bills.
LODGERS Taking in lodgers is a good way to earn extra income, but with every excellent idea come pros and cons. “If you are considering letting furnished rooms in your home you can receive up to £4,250 a year tax free (£2,125 if letting jointly 2010-2011 tax year) commonly known as the Rent a Room scheme,” comments property expert David Roberts, associate at Robinsons Chartered Financial Planners. “The obvious disadvantages of taking in lodgers is the lack of privacy as lodgers often share the family rooms, even meal times. If you are a home owner and are looking at taking in a lodger under the Rent a Room scheme you must check with your mortgage lender whether this is permitted within their current terms and conditions and also with your insurance company.”

products but chemical cleaners are not only expensive, but they are unnecessary, especially for the cashstrapped family. White vinegar dissolves dirt, hard water deposits and soap scum from surfaces, and can be used on delicate materials, such as hardwood flooring. It also makes a good fabric softener substitute as it cuts detergent residue. Baking soda may be used as an alternative to scouring powders. Sprinkle it on to a damp sponge and wipe over
soap rings in baths and other minor grime deposits. Growing your own herbs, salad and even vegetables make for a great money saver. If your garden plot is no longer big enough – or you live in an apartment without a garden – then an allotment is the next step. The cost for an allotment is £33 per year (£16 per year for senior citizens) from Liverpool City Council. * According to the latest figures by comparison site confused.com
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How much extra you need to repay on a 25year mortgage for the average home in the UK to finish paying 5 or 10 years early?
The interest on a mortgage is calculated daily, monthly or annually; which one makes a huge difference. Repayments before calculations won’t have an impact. If on an interest only mortgage make sure the repayment reduces the capital (actual amount borrowed) and not the interest. Make the mortgage overpayments a few days before the calculation is made.
CHECK FOR PENALTIES
Some older mortgages penalise you for paying them off more quickly, especially if you have a special offer fixed or discount rate deal.
CASH EMERGENCY FUND
Taking a lifetime tracker at base+2.49%, and a loan amount of £138k, a borrower would need to increase repayments by £111/month to reduce the term from 25 to 20 years or by £299/month to reduce their mortgage term to 15 years.
How much will you save if you repay a mortgage 5/10 years earlier? Using the example above, a customer could save £12.5k by reducing their term by five years or £24.7k by reducing it by 10 years.
Ensure you've enough cash put aside to meet mortgage repayments for at least six months once your money goes into most mortgages it’s gone. Mortgages with flexible features (or superflexible offset or current account mortgages), allows you to overpay or borrow-back.

Advice from chartered accountants 0151 228 8977 Where there’s a Will.....
Julia Casimo
Q. My father died recently and his Will was written using his bank’s Will writing service. The bank were appointed as sole executor of his estate, do you think this is a good idea? A. One of the most important elements of any Will is the naming of the executor or executors. These should be trusted individuals or organisations who have been consulted prior to their nomination. It is the executors duty to carry out the wishes of the deceased. Recent research shows that 43 per cent of people nominate a professional executor in their Will, and calculates that £40 million a year is spent unnecessarily in this respect. The four big banks (Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds and RBS ) have all recently agreed to review their sales practices in this area following a recent report from the Office of Fair Trading. The report found that bank customers were being encouraged to appoint professional executors without fully understanding the alternative options and the likely costs involved. It may be that this is what has happened with your father. The report found that whilst the costs of writing the Will itself were modest, charges for dealing with an ‘average’ estate were between £3,000 and £9,000. My experience is that the wrong decision when appointing executors could mean an unnecessary expense when a family member or friend may be quite capable of dealing with matters, perhaps with some elements of professional help in dealing with tax matters.
Showroom 27 Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 5AP
ADMIRAL CARPETS The complete flooring service
Q. Am I stuck with this then, what do you suggest I do? A. My experience is that the bank will usually if requested, relinquish the executorship. I therefore advise you to seek independent advice and decide whether the estate requires professional assistance. This will mainly depend on the size of the estate, the inheritance tax position, and any complexities arising from the Will itself. Often, in my experience a family member can take the executorship role, and seek professional assistance with the completion of tax forms etc. This is a ‘half-way house’ which is often an appropriate and more cost effective way of dealing with matters.
As with many decisions you really do need to take independent financial and tax advice. HAVE YOUR SAY YOUR VIEWS ON BIG ISSUES “I don’t think they are obliged to give back just because of what they are paid. They are as much part of the system as anyone else and their pay is just the way the business is going. There are hedge fund managers who are paid more. But they’re not in the public eye and we don’t know what their wages are. No-one expects them to do anything, so why should footballers?”
Danny Bolton philosophy student, Essex
Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard recently launched his own charitable foundation. Do footballers have a duty to pitch in and give back? “I think footballers could spend a little more time doing things for charity, preferably on children from disadvantaged backgrounds. They do seem to have an awful lot of spare time on their hands. They should spend some of it setting an example.”
“A lot of footballers already do loads for charity, but it’s all behind the scenes. Alan Shearer built a community centre and he’s there all the time. But money has spoiled the game. When I was a lad players were pitmen, paid £11 a match, £2 more if they won. It was an honour just to play for your side.”
Pauline Jones retired Marks & Spencer worker, Manchester
“The problem with footballers, like anyone with £5 million in the bank, is they don’t need to answer to anybody. That’s not a good thing; it spoils people. I think more footballers should be paying proper tax instead of creating companies and paying only a little bit.”
Scott Hanlon builder, Kensington
“Footballers get given so much more money than the rest of us, they should give some of it back. Not just because they are rich but also because they are role models. They have to realise what a position of power they are in - kids will copy whatever they do. They have the potential to do real good.”

The 13 properties that made up Brookside Close are now available to let, eight years after the Scouse soap, which during its peak attracted over 20 million viewers, was axed. Local estate agent Sutton Kersh are sole agents for the scheme and are marketing the properties to let through their West Derby branch. The portfolio includes a one-bedroom maisonette, two and three bedroom town houses, three and four bedroom detached houses and a two-bedroom bungalow. Prices start at £425pcm for the one bedroom maisonette.

Once only widely available to the very rich or in the South East, awareness of the service is now growing in other parts of the country. Lisa, whose branch serves the whole of Merseyside, Cheshire and Manchester, is seeing increasing numbers of people seeking professional help to find a home. “We’ve become more active in
Liverpool because of the number of major companies expanding in the area and because people now see the city as a more attractive place to live and invest in,” she said. “Generally our clients are companies with staff moving here who need accommodation quickly, private individuals moving to a new area, returning expats or parents wanting to buy for children who study in the city,” she said. “Or they are simply people who would rather let us do the legwork for them. Wirral auction makes millions Auction house Smith and Sons achieved sales of nearly £2 million at its latest auction.
Homesearch is on Liverpool’s prosperity has seen tailored homesearch services steadily grow in demand, says Lisa Green, director of The County Homesearch Company.
Situated at the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district buyers one and two bedroom apartments are available for just 80 per cent of the full purchase price. The scheme funds the remaining 20 per cent of the purchase price with a 10-year interest free loan from the developer secured against the property. All that is required is a five per cent deposit.
Houses with guide prices ranging from £30,000 - £200,000 were snapped up, while houses and bungalows in Heswall, Wallasey and Morerton generated a flurry of bids finishing with final prices above the guide price. Smith and Sons is now taking entries for its next auction and is particularly interested in houses in need of refurbishment and probate properties where a quick sale is required.

Hot off the press YOUR GUIDE TO THE LATEST PROPERTY IN LIVERPOOL
In Case of Emergency Residents should prepare themselves and their homes in case of an emergency, says Liverpool City Council’s Emergency Planning Unit. The City Council have produced a booklet called ‘Let’s Get Ready Liverpool’ (a mini version is a pull-out on page 32 & 33) which is full of useful information detailing ways residents can prepare themselves in case of an emergency. Councillor Tim Moore, Cabinet Member for Environment & Climate Change said: “We want to make people aware but not alarmed; emergency planning starts in the home and ‘Lets Get Ready Liverpool’ provides some simple steps which people can take to prepare and plan ahead. We’re advising people that by undertaking a number of activities they can be better prepared for the unexpected emergencies and people can help each other in their community at times of crisis. Recent events, like the heavy
snow of the last few winters, have shown us just how disruptive these events can be to our daily routines - planning ahead does minimise their impact.” ‘Lets Get Ready Liverpool’ for example, suggests having a Grab n Go bag, should you need to evacuate your home. The bag should be kept in an accessible place, containing some key essentials, ready to go when you
have to; some items to include could be – some basic toiletries, a wind up radio, a torch and mobile phone charger. Jan Rowley, Assistant Director, Environment, added: “An emergency can be anything which has impact upon you and your family and the way we live our lives; it could be a gas leak in your street, or being flooded, or a water shortage or on global
level, an influenza pandemic. Preparation is everything; doing a little now can make a big difference when you need it most.” For more information about emergency planning view the pull-out on page 32 & 33 or visit the Emergency Planning pages on the Liverpool City Council website, or by calling 0151 225 8400.
Spring on the waterfront The Liverpool Boat Show has been saved as a smaller event after it was unceremoniously cancelled this month due to the recession. The optimistic sounding ‘Spring on the Waterfront’ event will be
held between Friday, April 29 and Sunday, May 8 with a programme of events and activities spread across the waterfront from Princes Dock to Liverpool Marina. While plans are still at an early stage the aim is to build the
Spring on the Waterfront
alternative event around a number of key activities including the Tall Ships - with Stavros Niarchos and Pelican berthed at the Cruise Liner Terminal - and the Liverpool Kindred Clubs Regatta, featuring 40 – 50 yachts. The event will also include the Liverpool Shanty Festival, featuring performances on the docks and ships, and the Liverpool Comedy Festival. Liverpool Boat Show organiser Marine Industry Events cancelled the first Liverpool Boat Show after 50 exhibitors pulled out of the event following the lukewarm interest at last year’s event in London. The cancellation was a blow to a
city looking forward to a show to rival those in London and Southampton, and which was predicted at bringing £30m into the local economy and attracting 300,000 visitors. The Leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Joe Anderson, commented: “Our priority is to make sure we have a number of vibrant events on the waterfront to attract both the city’s residents and tourists. We are already making good progress on a replacement event and with continued support from our partners I am confident Liverpool will develop a memorable 10 day programme of waterfront activity.” Your Move 25

This house was a blank canvas. It was a new build and I was able to decorate it from scratch. The location is perfect as my mum lives five minutes down the road and it’s still on the same route into Liverpool as I was before. I’m not green fingered but in the summer I’m looking forward to sitting out on the patio in the summer and having barbecues. Lovell were brilliant, always on the end of the phone whenever I needed information.
When the TV was in my bedroom it felt like I was sleeping in a cinema. The 50 inch plasma screen TV was bought for my son as an impulse buy but turned out to be far too big for his room. Then I had it in my room and it was still too big. When we came here we found the perfect place for it.
This wallpaper is much bolder than I could ever have gone for in the past. I’ve picked quite a modern look, trying to keep it light and airy, without it being too bland. I think I trust my own taste better than I used to. I’m really pleased with the effect. My living room makes me feel cosy. The fire makes the room look and feel warm, but it’s still modern. Everything is new apart from the sofas and the candelabra, which my friend bought me two years ago. As soon as I bought the table I knew I’d found the perfect place for it.

Whenever I go on holiday I bring back a fridge magnet. This one, of Nefertiti, reminds me of when I went to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt last year with my friend Viv. It was a brilliant two week girls’ holiday; sun, sea and all inclusive, so we ate and drank to our hearts’ content. I’m training to be a paramedic at the moment and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. But after a busy shift all I want is a relaxing soak. So I was glad this house had a bath as well as a shower.

Steps to take in case of emergency In ’Your’ Liverpool Home! By simply keeping some basic provisions enough to meet your household needs for at least 3 days - you can make yourself and your family better prepared to face most emergencies. The following items should be on your household emergency supplies list: • • • • • • •
Radio - battery powered or wind-up Torch - battery powered or wind-up Spare Batteries Bottled Water Personal Medication First Aid Kit Tinned/Long-life Food

Remember if you, or a member of your family, have a medical condition which requires the permanent supply of a specific utility - i.e. electricity for dialysis purposes - you can contact the relevant utility company and register your special requirements.
If you have to evacuate your home - Remeber your Grab n Go bag!

‘In Case of Emergency’ (ICE) If you were involved in an accident, would the emergency services know who to contact if you are injured and unable to tell them? By simply storing family or friends details in your mobile phone, or carrying them in your purse or wallet, will help the emergency services contact the people that matter to you. Put your emergency numbers in your mobile phone ICE stands for ‘In Case of Emergency’ and it’s what the emergency services will be looking for if you are involved in an accident. • In your mobile phone address book, simply add
the letters ICE in front of the name of the person you would want to be contacted • If you want to have more than one ICE partner? Save them as ICE1. ICE2 etc • No mobile phone? Just keep the same ICE information in your wallet or purse
And don’t forget... • To make sure that the person whose name/number you are using knows that they are your ICE partner • To ensure that your ICE partner has a list of people to contact on your behalf • To make your ICE partner aware of any specific medical requirements you may have
Emergency planning starts at home
GO IN, STAY IN, TUNE IN
A household emergency plan is an excellent way to prepare yourself, your family and home in case of emergencies. A household emergency plan is something which the whole family should discuss about and be aware of.
Go In, Stay In, Tune In is recognised as being the best general advice to give to people in the middle of most emergencies.
There is not a right or wrong way of preparing a household emergency plan, but here are few points for consideration:• Think about the sorts of emergencies that you could encounter - i.e. a major power cut • Think about how an emergency could change your family routines - i.e. the daily school run • What arrangements you would need to put in place for your pets • Agree on alternative meeting points in case you can’t get back home
GO IN - wait inside until told otherwise and the all clear has been given STAY IN - keep the windows and doors closed and stay calm, wait for more information. In term time your children will be cared for at school TUNE IN - listen to local radio and television for updates and information

From boyband Busted to King of the Jungle in I’m a Celebrity, Matt Willis hasn’t faded into pop history, instead leaping onto the stage as bad boy Chuck in musical Footloose. In what was a star-studded career Matt went from pop rock celebrity back to his roots in musical theatre, with acclaimed performances in the West End and now dancing and singing in his first national tour. Matt is married to Big Brother’s Little Brother presenter Emma Griffiths. Tell us about Footloose - The Dance Musical? I’m playing Chuck who is the bad guy in the cast. There’s a massive difference between playing the massive shows for Busted and doing a musical, because you’re playing a character and you’re part of an event. It is so different I feel so much more under pressure to perform. In Busted I felt at ease, I never felt nervous. But doing musicals I feel really nervous, just because I want to be the best I can be. I was in Flashdance in the West End playing a nice guy very much like myself so I wanted to play someone different and you couldn’t get much better than this guy. If you’re nothing like Chuck, how did you get into character? I was always taught at drama school that I’ve got to find something to love in the person I am playing and I couldn’t find anything. For two weeks I wasn’t loving
“There’s a massive difference between playing the massive shows for Busted and doing a musical, because you’re playing a character and you’re part of an event.” him one bit, he is totally irritating and eventually I quite liked being this horrible person behaving like you normally wouldn’t behave. Sometimes when you meet people and they’re horrible to you, you can’t really react and I got to do these amazing reactions which were really different and cool. I wouldn’t be able to get away with behaving like him in real life though, my wife wouldn’t let me. You’ve been in Flashdance and now Footloose, are you purposely choosing 80s film-based musicals? I hadn’t seen the film before being asked to do this play, but my wife loves this movie. She was obsessed with it when she was younger, she really wanted me to play Kevin Bacon though. I love the film - I love the fact that when he’s really angry he just goes and dances in a barn. I just happen to be around these shows, I’m not planning to go and do Dirty Dancing or Ghost in the future, they just happened to be around at the time and chose me.
Why did you move away from music to theatre? Actually, this is what I started doing. I’ve always wanted to be an actor, it just made sense because I can sing and dance. Busted was amazing but it just took me away from this for ten years. I’m going to be making a record soon with a friend of mine, we’ve got no aspirations to be as big as Busted, we’re just a good old fashioned rock band. We’ve written about eight songs so far. We’re both from other bands and we’ve been wanting to do something together for eight years and hopefully after the show we will start to record. Any chance of a Busted reunion? We’ve talked about doing a reunion but it never came through and it was probably a wise decision. Busted was like this, amazing time in my life, it was just awesome but it did get a bit horrible sometimes. You’ve been up to Liverpool a few times with Busted, what do you think of the city? I absolutely love Liverpool, we played in Liverpool loads with Busted and after I’m a Celebrity I now meet up a lot with David Gest. And David is always in Liverpool, so he’s always like ‘come see me in Liverpool’ and I end up going to the city but I love it so can’t wait to play in Liverpool again.

LOFTY THINKING
We have recently just taken my daughter, who is eight, on her first skiing holiday. She loved the experience and has come home with lots of memorabilia! My question is, what do you do with such items? My daughter seems to be building up a collection already on her bedside tables of souvenirs from days out and holidays. Could you please help?
We are thinking about having a loft conversion, as we are desperately in need of some extra space. Would we require planning permission to do this? Unless your house is listed you shouldn’t need planning permission for a standard conversion, it is always worth checking with your local authority for any alterations that you make to your property. If you don’t need planning permission you will definitely need building regulations approval, which will ensure that the conversion doesn’t alter the structure of your home and will comply with fire safety. At this planning stage, it is always worth bearing in mind that the minimum headroom required for a conversion is 2.2m. Most properties do accommodate this height, but if yours does not you may have to lower the floor, which could mean the project will take longer and be more costly.
I think I have found the perfect way to solve your problem. It’s a brilliant shelving solution from Ferm Living. The company has in its collection a small unit, which would hang perfectly in your daughter’s room called The Dorm. The shelf has been designed by Trine Andersen and is made from plywood. The unit is divided into small sections, which makes it perfect to display small objects that remind you of somewhere or somebody, or objects that make you happy. www.95percentdanish.com
BLIND DILEMMA I have recently moved into a new home. At the moment there are blinds in all of the rooms. I would like to, in the future, have curtains made for all of the windows, but my boyfriend likes the blinds and he says curtains block out too much light! If you had the choice would you pick curtains or blinds? Curtains or blinds or both? Blinds are fantastic in given situations, they are practical and can look very smart, so I would never rule one over the other, for me the answer depends on the location and position of the window in question. Curtains however are very much back in vogue at the moment! They do offer a warmer feeling to a room; they keep the heat in, which is eco conscious, and also offer some noise insulation. With so many gorgeous fabrics to choose from, it’s hard not to seriously consider the curtain option. If your boyfriend is still not convinced and is naturally worried about the light, a good tip, is to extend the curtain pole or track at least 20cm beyond the window frame, when your curtains are open no light will be lost

THEATRE, FILM AND MUSIC IN LIVERPOOL
New Music HEATHER PEACE Until recently TV star Heather Peace was best known as a feisty girl in uniform.
Heather Peace
But having played the first female fire-fighter on TV’s London’s Burning, Ultimate Force’s first woman SAS soldier and DS Sam Murray in BBC 3’s Lip Service, she’s now earning her stripes as a talented acoustic singer songwriter. Last year she packed up her white Gretsch guitar and drove round the UK playing to 180-strong capacity audiences. She has also recorded an acoustic taster album for fans called This Is Me, which has sold thousands through her website. Heather Peace plays at The Masque on 8 April.
Cinematic encounters YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER Every British thesp worth his salt yearns to star in a Woody Allen vehicle, and judging by the cast list of his latest screen offering, a good many of them got their wish. Headed up by Sir Anthony Hopkins, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger features homegrown luminaries like Pauline Collins, Philip Glennister, Anna Friel, Celia Imrie, Gemma Jones and Meera Syal. The film follows a pair of married couples, Alfie, played by Hopkins, and Helena, played by Jones, and their daughter Sally (British born Naomi Watts) and husband Roy (Josh Brolin), as they each face a romantic crisis. After Alfie leaves Helena to pursue his lost youth and a freespirited call girl named Charmaine (Lucy Punch), Helena abandons rationality
and surrenders her life to the loopy advice of a charlatan fortune-teller. Similarly unhappy in her marriage, Sally develops a crush on her handsome art gallery owner boss, Greg (Antonio Banderas), while Roy, a novelist nervously awaiting the response to his latest manuscript, becomes moonstruck over Dia (Frieda Pinto), a mystery woman who catches his gaze through a nearby window. In cinemas from 18 March.
Andi Oshu
If laughter really is the best medicine then Liverpool will be a healthy place to live this spring. The city’s 10th annual comedy festival kicks off on April 28 and over the following 10 days some of the best comedic talent in the country will flock in to tickle our collective funny bone. Lugubrious Londoner Arthur Smith heads to the Unity (28 Apr) as does Mock The Week regular Andi Oshu (May 5), while MTW cohort Andy Parsons appears at the Phil (Apr 29) Dylan Moran from Channel 4’s Black Books takes his easygoing brand of humour to the Royal Court (29 Apr) while regular comic showcases like Comedy Central and Rawhide light up Baby Blue and the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre. Baa Bar, the Pilgrim and the Kazimier provide outlets for the cream of fringe comedy.
The music round up LIVERPOOL SOUND CITY Raucous stateside garage group The Black Lips will rock Liverpool Sound City this year. The US rockers are as notorious for the intensity of their stage performances as their music and are in the first wave of acts to confirm their attendance at the event. Jamie XX of The XX brings his live show to Young Turks, with
Baltimore hip-hop and rappers Spank Rock also making their Sound City debut. Former Beta Band frontman Steve Mason plus Funeral Party, Frank Turner, and Yuck have also confirmed appearances. Adding an extra date to their 15th anniversary tour, Liverpool rockers Cast have announced they will be playing at the festival, and fellow Scousers the Wave Machine have also signed up. Runs 19-21 May.

My favourite with... BERNARD THRESHER OF THE LANCASHIRE HOTPOTS Once strictly the preserve of the beard, cords and comfortable shoes brigade, folk is suddenly fashionable. With songs like eBay Eck and I Fear Ikea, comedy folk band The Lancashire Hotpots have had audiences chuckling into their Bishop's Finger since 2006. Vocalist, guitar player and drummer Bernard Thresher tells Your Move about some of his favourite things.
Thing about Liverpool
The M62, because it teks me back home to St Helens. Oh and the beer festival.
Pub
What's that bikers’ pub behind the FACT? That one.
Music
The Ministry of Sound’s Best of Dub-Step and Garage.
Musician
Food
Chips, beans, three sausages, four rounds of bread and butter, HP sauce. Done.
Item of clothing
I've got some tweed undies with a leather patch on the front. Like a geography teacher’s jacket.
Ways to relax
A glass of caviar, two pints of Pimms, oysters on toast, an open fire and a scotch egg while listening to Quando Quando Quando by Englebert Humperdink.
That bloke who plays the fiddle on Bold St. He played the Ozric Tentacles when I heckled him for it as a request. I gave him 60p.
Film
City of Angels featuring Nicholas Cage.
Book
Michael Barrymore's autobiography. It's quite racy in places.
