IT’S ALWAYS DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN
NOCTURNAL ANIMALS RELEASE DATE 4 NOVEMBER / Director Tom Ford / Starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon / Genre Drama, Thriller
Susan Morrow lives a privileged yet unfulfilled life with her husband Hutton. One weekend, as Hutton departs on one of his too-frequent business trips, Susan receives a package. It’s a novel, Nocturnal Animals, written by her ex-husband, with whom she has had no contact for years. Alone at night, in bed, Susan begins reading. The novel is dedicated to her but its content is violent and devastating. Susan increasingly interprets the book as a tale of revenge that forces her to re-evaluate her choices and re-awakens a love that she feared was lost. As the story builds to a reckoning that will define both the novel’s hero and her own, the divorced couple discover dark truths about each other and themselves in this haunting romantic thriller that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. 8 November / December 2016

Now, Zemeckis is keeping both feet firmly on the ground by venturing from spectacle again to deliver an intimate, back-to-basics, characterdriven narrative that evokes his greatest cinematic achievements.

Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, the team behind The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Hercules, Moana wouldn’t be a Disney production without memorable tunes, and with Lin-Manuel Miranda co-writing the music (fresh off Broadway’s criticallyacclaimed Hamilton), this is sure to be a feast for eyes and ears - as well as a story to feed the heart.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
16 November / December 2016
RELEASE DATE 18 NOVEMBER / Director David Yates / Starring Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell / Genre Adventure, Family, Fantasy
E
ver since the final victorious flourish of Harry Potter’s wand defeated He-WhoMust-Not-Be-Named, fans of the boy wizard have been clamouring for more magic to illuminate cinema screens. However, with the newest instalment to the mythology, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, debuting on London’s West End and only recently sending bookworms racing to the midnight launch of its written release, a long wait may well be in store for those in search of a cinematic continuation of the series. As if by magic and quicker than a cry of “Accio movie!”, a less renowned yet equally imaginative piece of J.K. Rowling’s magical universe has stampeded into cinemas. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is a spin-off prequel to the Harry Potter films, based on Rowling’s guide to the many creatures that inhabit the Potterverse. Written from the perspective of magizoologist Newt Scamander and featuring hastily scribbled classroom notes from Harry, Ron and Hermione, the compact index acted as a chance for muggles around the world to take a peek between the covers of a textbook deemed essential for Hogwarts students. David Yates, the director responsible for the final four films in the Potter series, has returned to unleash Rowling’s wondrous beasts upon the big screen and elaborate on Newt’s amazing exploits. The story takes place in New York City. The year is 1926. Our unlikely hero has travelled the world, procuring its most unusual, extraordinary, and perhaps dangerous magical creatures, and cramming them inside the surprisingly
roomy confines of his suitcase. On a brief stop in the Big Apple, things quickly spiral out of control and Newt’s collection is let loose, sparking panic amongst both the magical and No-Maj (American Muggle) community. Newt quickly finds a group of witch and wizard comrades to help him roundup the contents of his case; however, what the No-Majs call “witchcraft” is far from welcome on New York’s streets, and division runs rife between the two uneasy communities. As rival leaders rally their forces, the threat of a deadly civil war looms. Can Newt help sooth the tension while also averting the city’s imminent destruction? An all-star cast has been assembled to embody the many equally fantastical characters onscreen. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne steps into Newt’s shoes in what promises to be another spellbinding performance. A supporting cast featuring established stars including Colin Farrell and Ezra Miller, alongside lesser-known talents such as Katherine Waterston, will undoubtedly capture Potter fans’ hearts and imaginations all over again as good and evil collide. The film is not only a chance to cast your eyes upon some truly astounding beasts, but an unmissable opportunity to explore an incomparable vision of New York City during the Roaring Twenties. Smoky speakeasy bars offer sanctuary to those fleeing the many restrictions of prohibition-era America. Secret societies go underground, while wealthy city dwellers live it up beneath New York’s bright lights. A trip to more exotic lands may also be on the cards, as Newt invites outsiders inside his little suitcase of tricks. New York is in turmoil, vast spells flood through its streets and beasts are running wild between its towering skyscrapers. It’s time to discover a whole new wizarding world and the heroes and villains battling for its future.
