He crosses paths with a single mother, whose only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn’t know, some 300 miles away. The duo finds themselves in no man’s land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of ‘striver and skiver’ in modern day Britain.
Star, an adolescent girl from a troubled home, runs away with a travelling sales crew who drive across the American Midwest selling subscriptions door to door. Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, one of whom is Jake, she soon gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard-partying nights, law-bending days, and young love. For her first feature set and filmed in the U.S., British writer/director Andrea Arnold envisioned a story rooted in the realism and nuance of its characters and what she experienced while travelling across America.

Strange Tales Spawning the first new franchise in Marvel’s Phase 3, Benedict Cumberbatch is the world’s most powerful mystic, Earth’s ‘Sorcerer Supreme’… WORDS CHRIS WASEY

P
hase 3 is underway. With the Avengers tied up engaging in Civil War, a new Marvel hero is introduced. But aside from a brief mention in The Winter Soldier, Dr Stephen Strange is a complete mystery. Created by Stan Lee in 1963 (a year after Spiderman), Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful characters in Marvel lore. Human, but a gifted sorcerer, his powers are varied; energy bolts, ethereal shields, interdimensional travel, telekinesis and
telepathy… the list goes on. With the trailers’ dark, foreboding tone, we know this will be an origin story. Once a cocky surgeon, Dr Strange’s hands are injured in a car accident. His world and ego shattered, he seeks out ‘The Ancient One’ (Tilda Swinton) to heal him. Instead, he is taught the ways of sorcery and given the chance to become
one of Earth’s great protectors. But in battling an ancient enemy (Mads Mikkelsen, returning as a villain for the first time since Hannibal), the Sorcerer Supreme is hopelessly outmatched. With street level heroes, space battles, and billionaire geniuses all covered, Dr Strange’s magic and mysticism looks set to fill the last gap in the MCU puzzle.

RELEASE DATE 21 OCTOBER / Directors Mike Mitchell, Walt Dohrn / Starring Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, Justin Timberlake / Genre Animation, Comedy, Family
T
here are two kinds of trolls out there. There’s the well-known sort that live beneath bridges, devour the odd wandering villager, and are generally the grumpy old scoundrels of various fantasy worlds. They’re big, ugly, and look like they would smell really, really bad. However, just because these mythological beings have spent hundreds of years earning themselves a rather unfortunate reputation, it doesn’t mean there’s not room for them to change. DreamWorks is here to prove that trolls can be loveable, too. Enter the charming collective of creatures that populate DreamWorks’ latest animation bonanza, based on the classic dolls with neon hairdos. They may well belong to the same category of fairy tale beings as those unscrupulous old geezers who pounce upon travelling heroes, but these colourful characters are set to warm your heart and take you on an unforgettable adventure, filled with music, exhilarating action, and most importantly, lots of laughter. The creators of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda have built a world filled with wonders of all different shapes and sizes and this time your heroes come in the shape of – well, trolls. Branch is a rather reclusive troll. He lives deep underground in a heavily-fortified survival bunker locked away from the surface world and what he fears most... Princess Poppy and her fun-loving followers. However, when the cuddly bunch of villagers are abducted by Bergens, a monstrous race of giants with a
taste for trolls, Branch must put his survivalist skills to use to save the village from becoming tasty multicoloured morsels on a Bergen menu. Branch, voiced by the one and only Justin Timberlake, is forced to team up with the optimistic and always upbeat Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick). Not only must the crabby recluse hatch a plan to stop the village from becoming breakfast, dinner, and dessert, but he must also face his long lost inner-troll. Can Branch find happiness at Poppy’s side, and can the chalk-and-cheese pair rescue the trolls? An array of A-listers have stepped inside the sound booth to provide their voices for both storytelling and song. Alongside Timberlake and Kendrick, other celebs in on the action include Zooey Deschanel, James Corden, John Cleese, Christine Baranski, Gwen Stefani, and Russell Brand. Original Timberlake tunes ring out alongside a soundtrack of modern mash-ups from artists such as Ariana Grande as Branch and Poppy journey across a wonderful and dangerous landscape towards their frightful destination of Bergen Town. Fortunately for Branch, he’s not stuck with just the naïve princess. On their travels the pair come across fellow trolls who have also managed to avoid the Bergen attack. Such characters include DJ Suki, a master of the mix and constant source of musical inspiration, the cuddly yet muscular Biggie, the wise guru Creek, and many more. A toe-tapping, hair-raising, heartswelling, and chuckle-inducing adventure featuring a spellbinding line up of friendly and fearsome faces awaits cinemagoers. The saying “don’t feed the troll” may well be a popular and appropriate warning in this day and age, but this time Branch, Poppy and their ragtag band of troll brothers and sisters will be doing everything in their power to ensure that the Bergens don’t eat the trolls!
BRANCH
An unlikely hero who lives in fear of a Bergen attack. When the monstrous beasts finally arrive, Branch’s training is the trolls’ best hope for survival.
POPPY
The always optimistic daughter of King Peppy, Poppy is a lover of dancing, hugging, and singing. Can she melt Branch’s heart and save her village?
CREEK
A font of zen-like wisdom who is admired by all. Calm, collected and highly capable, Creek’s mind may be the key to unlocking the Bergen’s cages.
DJ SUKI
A master on the mix, DJ Suki’s sound system is made entirely of crickets, beetles and other creepy crawlies.
BIGGIE
The biggest member of the snack pack, Biggie is all heart. His adorable pet Mr. Dinkles is never far away.

ack Reacher is an ex-military cop with a decorated past. Jack Reacher is also a mystery man, taking on random jobs and travelling across America to find the truth. In this sequel to the 2012 hit film, Jack Reacher is in trouble. Based on Lee Child’s celebrated series - now on its twentieth novel - Jack Reacher: Never Go Back promises the return of Reacher punching, shooting, and tackling his foes in another round of actioncharged suspense. In the books, Jack Reacher stands at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, but the film
JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK
franchise refutes the tagline of 1998’s Godzilla - ‘size does matter’ - as 5-foot-6 superstar Tom Cruise reprises the role. How I Met Your Mother and Avengers star Cobie Smulders joins the action as the head of Reacher’s former military unit. Reacher returns to Virginia where he was once stationed only to find himself falsely accused of a 16-yearold homicide, drawing him into a cross-country chase with high-end stunts and a conspiracy larger than he could’ve imagined. The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick reunites with Cruise to helm Never Go Back, but the director of Jack Reacher, Christopher McQuarrie, remains on board to ensure this highly anticipated sequel lives up to its predecessor and showcases more of our hero’s unique brand of justice.
JACK FACTS:
• Never Go Back is set four years after Reacher’s on-screen debut. • The plot is based on the 18th book in award-winning British author Lee Childs’ series, which goes by the same name as the film and was released in 2013, continuing the storyline from the novels 61 Hours, Worthy Dying For, and A Wanted Man. • Producers noted that it was impossible to find an accomplished actor who could fit the physical description of Jack Reacher, and Lee himself claimed Reacher’s size, as portrayed in the books, is a metaphor for ‘an unstoppable force’. • Tom Cruise has previously played characters with the forename ‘Jack’ in Legend, Oblivion, and the first Jack Reacher film.

here do babies come from? Before it’s time for “The Talk,” parents all over the world say they’re delivered by storks, but in Warner Animation Group’s second film, these birds aren’t in the baby-making business anymore; they deliver packages for an online retail corporation. Cornerstore.com sells everything from electronics to underwear, and every order is processed at Stork Mountain. This is where we meet Junior, the best stork in the business
and first in line to become the new boss of Stork Mountain. The only thing standing in his way is 18-yearold orphan Tulip: the last baby Stork Mountain ever made whose antics constantly interrupt business. Junior doesn’t have the heart to fire his friend, so when an unexpected order arrives and is accidentally processed, he and Tulip must take flight to deliver a newborn baby to its rightful home. Continuing with the same formula that made The LEGO Movie a global phenomenon, Warner Animation entrusts another adult comedy director, Nicholas Stoller, with the creation of a child-friendly animation. With former Pixar animator Doug Sweetland as his wingman and an allstar comedy cast on board, Storks is sure to secure the fledgeling studio’s reputation as one that always delivers.
