Afghanistan and Pakistan. Between the ridiculous things she experienced and the fact that it’s adapted by Robert Carlock, Fey’s long-time collaborator on 30 Rock, there’s tremendous potential here. As Kim Barker, another dedicated career woman working in a manic, male-dominated industry, Fey finds herself in a familiar role, only the one expertly satirised by 30 Rock is shuffled to the Taliban war-zone. With Margot Robbie’s beautiful British reporter at her side, Alfred Molina’s all-too-friendly local official on her heels, and Billy Bob Thornton completing the cast as General Hollanek - the would-be Jack Donaghy to her Liz Lemon - Barker must navigate the testosterone-fuelled world of war-zone journalism in this darkly comic dramedy that promises to uncover the hilarity hidden amidst the rubble of war. H
ot off the heels of his last epic showdown, Po, the loveable panda with the iron paws, is back for the third instalment of the acclaimed animated franchise. We pick up with Po embracing his role as defender of The Valley of Peace, but unfortunately for “The Dragon Warrior,” a great battle rages inside the Chinese spirit realm that will cast the earth into a dangerous war between furry good and fuzzy evil. Fresh from claiming the life force of his former ally Grandmaster Oogway, super-powered, supernatural villain Kai plans to break through to the physical world and claim it as his own. The only thing in the way of this self-appointed “Master of Pain” is Po - but there’s no way he can brave this fierce new foe alone. Luckily, Po’s long-lost biological father Li arrives in search of his estranged son. The extra-giant panda soon introduces his heir to a secret mountainous panda paradise where Po can experience the life he always longed for alongside scores of fun-loving and hysterical characters. Po must grab destiny by the dumplings and make the jump from warrior to teacher, racing to convert the village of disaster-prone pandas into a lethal army of martial arts masters – the only problem is they’re more concerned with eating bamboo, sleeping all day, and well, just being pandas. Nobody said this would be an easy task, but they didn’t mention it would be impossible! However, a long forgotten secret ability exclusive to the panda colony may well prove to be the secret weapon required to vanquish the increasingly powerful
Kai - they’ve just got to remember the centuries-old technique first. The star-studded voice cast of Po’s onscreen adventures often becomes secondary to the colourful animated action. With this third set of panda escapades, the A-list ensemble breathing life into the eye-catching imagery is hard to ignore. Jack Black reprises his role as our endangered protagonist, while his brothers and sisters in arms, The Furious Five, boast an extremely impressive lineup: Angelina Jolie, David Cross, Seth Rogan, Lucy Liu, and Jackie Chan all flex their vocal chords alongside their digital counterparts’ muscles, and the star power doesn’t end there. Oscar winners J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) and Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), plus Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman also join the action-packed proceedings to form a truly formidable and incredibly talented cast. Not only is this film one of the industry’s biggest animated experiences, taking full advantage of DreamWorks’ technical advancements, it’s also making history. Released in both English language and Mandarin (complete with unique animations to ensure the best possible experience), Po’s latest battle is a truly worldwide event and has already drawn tens of millions of dollars in the east and west - most of which was earned on its opening weekends in America and China. Fans of the series and new recruits have the opportunity to experience Kung Fu Panda 3 alongside one another regardless of which side of the globe they are currently karate chopping. Get ready to dance with danger, assume the crane position, and focus your inner chi alongside Po, his newfound panda brethren, and their paws of fury in what promises to be a spectacle of epic proportions - just like Po’s waistline.

FEATURE Superman and Batman square off in what promises to be the biggest cinematic battle of the decade. WORDS AARON KENT
BRUCE WAYNE BRINGS THE PAIN RELEASE DATE 25 MARCH / Director Zack Snyder / Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot / Genre Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
B
en Affleck is something of an enigma. From building a career in rom-com roles and as Hollywood’s go-to guy for shallow action movies, he has since crafted quite the diverse filmography. Besides directing Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Oscar-winner Argo, Affleck has also excelled in various roles, including the beleaguered husband in Gone Girl. Henry Cavill, on the other hand, had a pretty safe job on TV, never really straying from the confines of safe shows such as Midsomer Murders and The Tudors. Yet when Hollywood came knocking with the
role of Superman, Cavill accepted, and rightly his career has taken off. Batman v Superman sees the two leading men battle in one of comic book history’s most impressive match-ups, as seen in multiple DC comics. It’s no surprise that DC have chosen to create an extended universe around the film, with Gal Gadot joining the fight as Wonder Woman prior to the Justice League films. Success for Marvel with their Avenger’s universe has seen many franchises try similar ideas, including the upcoming Godzilla universe. Comic book veteran Zach Snyder directs fresh from 2013’s Man of Steel. Expect multiple references to 2016’s other DC extended universe showpiece Suicide Squad, which will star Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Will Smith as Deadshot.

HOLY FUN FACTS, BATMAN!
• Previous attempts at Justice League films include a 2008 movie with George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) directing. • David S. Goyer, who worked on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, wrote the first draft of Batman v Superman but was eventually replaced by Chris Terrio. • Jesse Eisenberg will play the role of Superman’s arch-villain Lex Luthor. • Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Jesse Eisenberg all initially had to overcome scepticism about their casting. • Jeremy Irons will play Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal friend and family butler. • One of the reasons Affleck accepted the role of Batman was to understand how Snyder directed on a large-scale, so Affleck could refresh himself before directing a Batman stand-alone film himself.

THE MYSTERY BOX WANNA PLAY A GAME?
JJ Abrams’ projects are known for their high levels of secrecy and things are no different for this deeply mysterious “blood relative” to Cloverfield. WORDS LEE CURTIS
As well as making giant strides in the found footage genre, Cloverfield was a champion of the ARG (augmented-reality-game) viral campaign. Its masterclass in mystery-box marketing generated enough curiosity to see a modest £17 million budget return a staggering £118 million worldwide gross. A curious teaser that revealed little more than a release date was accompanied by a tidal wave of viral videos, fake websites, and Easter eggs. It’s been almost 8 years since any of the Cloverfield ARG sites were updated, but recently, fans who participated first time around received a brand new email that kick-started a series of mysteries. The ARG viral marketing campaign for 10 Cloverfield Lane is live. Let the games begin.

M “
ystery is the catalyst for imagination . . . What are stories besides mystery boxes?” In the years since revealing the secret of his storytelling, J.J. Abrams has consistently applied this concept to projects like Star Trek, Super 8, and The Force Awakens, but none were more shrouded in secrecy than Cloverfield. It’s therefore only fitting that the same approach should be taken for its enigmatic successor, 10 Cloverfield Lane. What we do know is this indirect sequel promises to be a very different film within the same universe; if its predecessor was about a Kaiju-esque monster terrorising New York, perhaps its “blood relative” is about how the attack affected the ‘burbs. The story follows a young woman who finds herself in a well-stocked fallout shelter
belonging to a mysterious doomsdayprepper, who insists the world outside isn’t safe. Before long she begins to wonder if he’s telling the truth and hatches a plan to see for herself. Will leaving the bunker turn out to be a fatal error? The answer to this and many more questions will only be answered when the mystery box is opened, and fortunately, we don’t have long to wait.
