Fly Me To The Moon
IN CINEMAS 11 JULY
Director Greg Berlanti / Starring Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson / Genre Comedy, Drama, Romance
America’s attempt to reach the moon first is easily one of the most exciting eras of scientific ambition and one that’s well documented in cinema. One aspect that we don’t often see explored, though, is the country’s lack of faith that it could ever happen.
That’s the laugh-filled launch pad for a new romantic comedy-drama where Channing Tatum’s NASA director and Scarlett Johansson’s marketing guru are tasked with filming a fake moon landing – just in case the real one doesn’t take off.
Fly Me To The Moon pulls out all the stops in terms of capturing the mood and vibe of the swinging sixties. This means bold fashion and even bolder hairstyles, both of which are sure to help ground viewers in this tale, very loosely based on a true story, where America may or may not find itself shooting for the moon… twice. Despite sharing the silver screen together in Don Jon and Hail, Caesar!, this film marks the first time the Hollywood stars are paired properly and their onscreen relationship is sure to see sparks fly now there’s no space between them at all.
Space Romance
JUPITER ASCENDING
Part-man, part-wolf, Channing Tatum is the far-off space warrior who visits Earth to inform Mila Kunis’ intergalactic princess about her true destiny. It’s definitely one of the cheesier romance action stories that’s story is unabashedly camp.
PASSENGERS
Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are stranded together on a spaceship as the only two humans to have awoken from their hibernation early. This forms the basis for a sci-fi thriller that gives them the freedom to play off each other expertly.

Based on the hugely-successful cell-shaded loot-shooter video game series, the unmistakeable gunbased shootouts, chaotic sights, and irreverent humour of Borderlands finally hits the big screen. Headed up by a legendary genre director and self-confessed gamer, Eli Roth trades horror for sci-fi in an anarchic adaptation that features an eclectic cast of Hollywood A-listers.
At the centre of it all is Lilith, played by Cate Blanchett, who returns to her home world of Pandora to try and plunder a mysterious vault believed to contain the ultimate treasure. Pulling off the biggest heist the galaxy has ever seen will need the best crew its ever seen. Sadly, all she’s got is a who’s who of misfits, including Kevin Hart’s short-fused mercenary, Roland; Ariana Greenblatt’s young explosives addict, Tiny Tina; Florian Munteanu’s masked and muscular Krieg; and Jamie Lee Curtis’ strange scientist, Tannis.
Hot on the heels of his now infamous performance as Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jack Black pipes up, too, as the voice of the purposefully annoying motormouth robot, Claptrap. Can this unlikely team survive each other as well as the hazardous and hilarious dangers that lie on the road ahead?
LILITH
A reluctant return to her hateful home planet sees this flame-haired bounty hunter’s already dangerous mission to find a bad guy’s missing daughter turn into a deadlier hunt for treasure.

IN CINEMAS 6 SEPTEMBER
Director Tim Burton / Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega / Genre Comedy, Fantasy, Horror
From the imagination of director Tim Burton, with Michael Keaton reprising his infamous paranormal protagonist, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings a cinema icon back to the big screen to make our millennium. For the uninitiated, and those that don’t believe in ghosts, the mischievous bio-exorcist makes his money by scaring the bejeezus out of the living.
It’s been thirty-five years since his last hilarious haunting, where an unearthly curse means “Beetlejuice” must be spoken aloud three times to get him out, and back into, his box. This time, the wise-cracking, fast-talking rent-a-ghost is on the run and ready to put the fear into three generations of the Deetz family.
Keaton Is King!
The ghost with the most gets hired by a recently deceased couple to rid their home of its new, living lodgers. The rest, is history. The black and white striped suit, green hair, undead powers, and wicked sense of humour; this iconic role truly put Keaton in the spotlight.

This is bad news for Winona Ryder, who returns as grown-up goth Lydia Deetz and faces a reunion with her former phantasmal husband-tobe. Jenna Ortega was born to play Wednesday Addams and is as much a perfect fit here as Lydia’s wayward daughter, Astrid. Catherine O’Hara also returns as family matriarch, Delia. Following her unforgettable turn as the inimitable Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek, she’s sure to squeeze everything out of her screentime.
Add to that the always interesting Willem Dafoe as ghost hunter Wolf Jackson and Monica Bellucci as Mrs Juice and you can see why we’re dead excited for this long-awaited sequel to the eighties smash.
