ONE LAST RIDE RELEASE DATE 3 APRIL / Director James Wan / Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson / Genre Action, Crime, Thriller
W
ith the tragic death of Paul Walker in a car crash before filming was completed last year, Furious 7 will be a bittersweet farewell to the series. What started as a mid-budgeted breakout hit fifteen years ago has become one of the world’s most successful franchises. Grossing more than $2.2 billion over six movies, the series received an extra adrenaline shot to its fortune after the fourth installation, shifting attention away from cars and street racing...
and on to all-out explosive action. Chronologically, Furious 7 takes place after the events of Fast 6 and Tokyo Drift. After defeating Owen Shaw, the crew finally earn amnesty and return home freely, after a decade as fugitives. But they quickly find themselves hunted by Shaw’s older brother (a very menacing Jason Statham) and must again come together for “one last ride” if they are to survive. Following Paul Walker’s death, Universal announced that his brothers, Caleb and Cody would be standing in for him as doubles for the unfinished action scenes. You might not see a more macho movie this year, but with the close-knit cast saying a genuine farewell to a good friend, expect more heart than your average blockbuster. With a tent-pole style budget (upwards of $250 million), exhilarating car chases, Statham brawling with Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson and Vin Diesel, even a vehicular sky dive from 30,000 feet, if this is the final entry, every last drop in the tank will fuel the spectacle.
FURIOUS FRANCHISE The Fast & the Furious (2001) LAPD officer Brian O’Conner infiltrates a street racing crew, but as he falls for their leader’s sister, he must decide where his loyalties lie. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) O’Conner goes undercover to take down a Miami drug kingpin. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) A teenage street racer gets caught in a feud with the Yakuza. Fast & Furious (2009) O’Conner is back with the FBI, while Dominic wars with a Mexican arms dealer.
FAST & FURIOUS 7
Fast Five (2011) DSS agent Luke Hobbs (The Rock) attempts to apprehend Dominic and O’Conner. Fast & Furious 6 (2013) Dominic and the gang forge an uneasy alliance with Hobbs to save one of their crew.

ilms about famed works of art are typically either artist biopics or those that document the creation of a particular piece. Woman in Gold, however, belongs to a unique third group as legendary painter Gustav Klimt and his gilded masterpiece play second fiddle to the extraordinary true story of Holocaust survivor Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren). It’s a world-renowned tale that’s already been the subject of three documentaries, but BBC Films unites with My Week with Marilyn director Simon Curtis and a cast adorned with acting pedigree to forge the theatrical recounting it deserves. Sixty years after evacuating Nazi-occupied
Austria, this tenacious Jewish octogenarian returns home to retrieve her rightful heirlooms that were confiscated during the Second World War. The stolen items include five Klimt paintings, among them a portrait of her aunt Adele Bloch-Bauer I - the infamous Lady in Gold. Separated from her family, Maria lived as a refugee in California while the painting, having fallen into the hands of the Austrian government at the end of the war, was displayed in a Viennese gallery where it was revered as “The Mona Lisa of Austria”. Accompanied by her plucky lawyer, Randol Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks on a demanding and emotional journey that forces her to brush with Austrian authorities and confront the difficult truths about her family’s past that she unearths along the way. It’s a story with the ability to warm hearts one minute and break them the next as she fights for belated justice - a truly priceless treasure.

he preposterous underwater world of SpongeBob SquarePants has mystified and delighted adults and children alike for over fifteen years. The deepest, murkiest depths of the world’s vast blue oceans hold countless bizarre sights - many of which we still have yet to discover. From giant jellyfish floating over rainbow coral beds and reefs, to silver scaled lantern fish illuminating lost treasures of deep-sea wreckages with their own set of shimmering headlights, these wondrous sights are a true rarity - but not as rare as a certain unmistakeable yellow sponge. The creation of marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants has seen his popularity expand since he first splashed onto TVs in 1999. Introducing us to the town of Bikini Bottom and its unique inhabitants, the show’s wacky storytelling and colourful visuals captured the imagination of millions of kids in households on both sides of the Atlantic, while also becoming a guilty pleasure to older generations thanks to its tongue-in-cheek humour. A fun-loving and enthusiastic sea sponge, SpongeBob shows no signs of slowing down his adventures since he moved into his famous pineapple under the sea and began frying up Krabby Patty burgers in The Krusty Krab. Critics crowned the smartly dressed sponge and his band of eccentric buddies, including Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward, with award after award, while the show became Nickelodeon’s most successful, surreal and beloved children’s series ever earning billions of dollars in the process. From the strange to the scary, bonkers to the bizarre, it seems those of us on land are still hooked on SpongeBob’s life aquatic. Absorbing more fanfare with every series of his wild escapades, the blue-eyed sponge with unflagging optimism and a trademark giggle was given the chance to make his feature film debut in 2004’s
BIKINI BOTTOM AVENGERS SpongeBob isn’t the only one on the hunt for the secret Krabby Patty Formula…
PATRICK
PATRICK: An intellectually challenged yet lovable pink starfish, Patrick is SpongeBob’s BFF and partner in crime fighting. No ice cream is safe when Patrick emerges from under his rock. SQUIDWARD: SpongeBob and Patrick’s longsuffering neighbour Squidward has been grumpy since the day a pineapple fell from a boat and crushed his garden - SpongeBob moving into that pineapple didn’t help. Will he finally get his chance to shine on the surface? SANDY: Sandy’s a squirrel from Texas who wields a deep knowledge of science and the deadly art of karate, both of which will be invaluable in the battle ahead. PLANKTON: Unashamedly evil and the nemesis of SpongeBob’s boss Mr. Krabs, Sheldon J. Plankton has hatched many a dastardly plan to steal the Krabby Patty recipe. Now he must fight to get it back, but can he be trusted?
The Spongebob SquarePants Movie. A decade later, he’s back on the big screen in Spongebob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water Nickelodeon’s first cinematic sequel since The Rugrats tottered back into cinemas in 2003. However, this time his sea legs are about to become landlocked as a crisis forces him to rise out of the depths of his world and walk the surface of ours. Our beloved invertebrate’s infamous nemesis, Plankton, has long wanted to put SpongeBob’s place of employment - The Krusty Krab fast food restaurant - out of business. Plankton’s rival restaurant, the Chum Bucket, sits opposite the Krab, and Plankton has finally devised a plan to steal the Krab’s secret formula for Bikini Bottom’s favourite fast food, Krabby Patties. Before Plankton is able to complete his scheme to snatch the patties’ secret from SpongeBob’s protection, the recipe mysteriously disappears... into the hands of diabolical pirate, Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas). With the Krabby Patties’ formula in his grasp, Beard converts his canon-toting ship into the hottest new diner in town, and SpongeBob realises the only way to stop an evil super-villain is to become a real-life superhero. For the greater good of a Bikini Bottom that has fallen into apocalyptic mayhem in the wake of this terrible Krabby Patty drought, SpongeBob must set aside his differences with Plankton to join
forces. He and his friends ascend from the ocean bed and come ashore to combat the bearded burger marauder. With the help of a mystical dolphin named Bubbles and a magic storybook that makes dreams come true, SpongeBob and his own Justice League of Bikini Bottom become muscle-bound avengers, each with their own set of amazing superpowers to unleash on land. Mixing the quirky hand-drawn animation of the original series with flashy Hollywood live action, Sponge Out of Water serves up the perfect combination of surf and turf mayhem as both classic SpongeBob and his newly buff alter-ego share the action in and out of the water - action that can also be seen in mind-boggling, eye-popping 3D. Could this truly be the end for SpongeBob? Will the land of Bikini Bottom ever see him cook up a mouth-watering patty ever again? Will his pineapple under the sea become juicy chunks in a flaming catastrophic fruit salad? Either way, the battle for tasty fried food has reached our shores, and life both above and below the surface will never be the same again. Overflowing with fun and wonderment for children of all ages, and bubbling over with clever references for film lovers who refuse to completely grow up, Spongebob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water is without a doubt the catch of the year when it comes to underwater blockbusters. Come reel it in!
