The Lost Cookie Jar Caroline Creighton

Once in a small little house in the middle of winter, a little family of mice was eating their dinner. “Everyone ready for dessert?” asked Tommy. “Yeah,” said the mice at the table. Cheesy, Tommy’s brother, got up to help with the dessert. They went into the kitchen to get the cookie jar. They got a little wooden stool and opened the cabinet. The cookie jar was gone.

“WHERE ARE THE COOKIES!!!!????” yelled Cheesy. “Geez, be quiet,” whispered Tommy. Tommy went to the door to the dining room and asked his mother if she knew where the cookies were. “Oh, yes,” said Mama, “I gave them to Mr. Bear for his kids.” “Can we go to his house and ask if we can get some?” questioned Cheesy. “Yes, if you promise to wear a coat,” said Mama.

“We promise,” said Cheesy and Tommy. They got all dressed for the cold, and rushed outside. They followed a small path through the snow until they reached a little house made of fallen trees and logs. “Hello? Anyone home?” asked Tommy. The reply was someone making a loud snoring noise. Tommy and Cheesy went inside.

“Ugh! What is that smell???” asked Cheesy. They went forward, holding their little pink noses, and deep in the house something growled. “Hello?” Tommy yelled into the dark.

“Grrrr… what is it?” asked a deep voice. “Hello Mr. Bear. We were wondering if you had our cookie jar. Do you?” asked Cheesy. “Oh, no sorry. I gave it to Ms. Fox for her children to enjoy. If you hurry they will still have some left!” said Mr. Bear. “Okay, thank you,” said Tommy, and he and Cheesy went back outside to Vind the fox family.

“I hope we get there before they eat all the cookies,” said Cheesy, licking his lips. They hurried off through the woods until they came to a large hole in the ground covered with sticks and leaves. “How are we going to get in,” said Cheesy, “I want to get our cookies!” “Help me move all this stuff over so we can get inside,” replied Tommy. They went up to the hole and started pushing sticks away.

Eventually, they made an opening big enough for the two mice to walk side by side. As they got deeper down they smelled Ms. Fox’s favorite soup, and the air got warmer.

“Welcome dears,” said Ms. Fox gently as Tommy and Cheesy stepped into the room. “Would you like some soup? It has cheese,” she asked. “Why yes we-‐” “Cheesy, stop,” he whispered. He turned around and asked Ms. Fox, “We already had dinner, but do you have our cookie jar?”

softly.

“You mean the green one? I gave that to Mr. and Mrs. Snake,” said Mrs. Fox

“What does it take to get a small cookie jar?!” whined Cheesy. “Cheesy!” yelled Tommy. “I’m sorry if I upset you, but I thought they would like them,” said Ms. Fox. “That is okay,” said Tommy. He and Cheesy walked out of the house. On the way to the Snake’s house, they stepped into a clearing.

“Whoa, what is this place?” asked Tommy. They stepped around a large metal box, and saw a group of little cloth houses. “Whoa, these must be big animals to live in these things,” said Cheesy, looking around. “I’m not so sure about this place,” whispered Tommy. All of a sudden they heard a loud crashing noise in the trees.

“Here it comes!” said Cheesy. They ducked behind a log and looked out. There was a strange creature coming towards them on two legs. “Who walks like that?” asked Cheesy. The thing walked to a pile of logs in the center of the houses and pulled a Vlame out of a pocket!!! “What is it doing?!” yelled Cheesy. “Be quiet already!” said Tommy. The thing lit the logs on Vire. “Whoa!” said Cheesy. Then he saw a Vlash green. The thing pulled out a round jar covered with green paint.

them.

“Our cookie jar,” yelled Cheesy, and the thing turned and looked straight at

“Run!!!!!!” yelled Tommy, and they did. They jumped over all the logs and ran around the Vire. “Hurry!” yelled Tommy.

Cheesy caught up to him and they ran out of the place. Eventually they reached their house and went inside. Everyone turned to look at them. “Did you Vind the cookies?” asked Mama. “Yeah we did,” Tommy and Cheesy said. “You will not believe what just happened,” said Tommy, and he sat down at the table to tell their story.
