Foxes Galore! By Eva Jungermann ! I’m walking around the big, leafy green woods. I can hear the faint whisper of the wind tickling my ears and the scent of many different types of scat, come and go through my nose. I am starving and searching for some food. A fat, juicy chicken would be nice, I think. But I can’t find one, so I have to settle for a blue jay that I have figured was just cleaning itself, since it’s feathers are puffed out. I finally finish my OK meal, and lay down in my den. My bright red hair is keeping me warm. When my big, yellow eyes finally start to close, a howl of a scared baby fox catches my ears. It sounds like it’s off to my left and up Oak Hill. I think I better go save it before the evil fox, Voldifox, who is trying to take over the woods gets it and takes it to his den. ! Voldifox has been trying to take over the woods since I turned ten, but all of his plans never work because they’re very obvious, and I know who made them at first glance. He has big, beady, yellow eyes, and his smile is deviously crooked. Some of his thin brown fur is peeling, which makes him look like he has a skin disease of some sort. The bad part is, the older he gets the more powerful he gets. ! I start running toward the awful screeching noise, hearing it get louder the more I run. Finally, I see a poor, little, red furry bundle howling like no tomorrow. He’s trapped under one of Voldifox’s strong, thick nets. I know it’s his net, because it has his blue devil logo on the side. (Like I said, he’s not very smart.) ! After, I take the small baby fox to my den, I look around and see my family’s paw prints dipped in black ink on the wall. When I finally finish building him a bed, I hear more howling! My fox instincts take over again, and I take off running. I dodge trees, bushes and roots, getting to the howling in only thirty seconds flat. This time instead of seeing one fox, I see three, but nothing that seems to be of Voldifox’s. I put the two foxes on my fuzzy back, and one in between my strong but gentle jaws. ! When I get back, I lay the other three next to the first little baby fox I found. This is when I hear even more howling!! “REALLY?!” I think annoyed. This time when I get to the howling, I see seven little foxes!! Right then, I KNOW something is going on, but I take the little foxes with me anyway because it’s good to be kind to others. Then, I put the seven little foxes with the rest of the foxes in the bed I made for them. ! “It’s time to go to bed,” I whisper to my ten little foxes. Then while I am just about to fall asleep and dream of sugar plum princesses, I hear the foxes gagging, coughing, and rustling in their bed. I look up just in time to see them transform into a big, red, fluffy monster! It (or they) has eyes, stands on five paws and has five free paws, and is as fat as a Redwood tree. This must have been Voldifox’s REAL plan all along!

I jump up onto my hind legs, ready to fight, when one of their big arms hits me in the chest. I fly backwards, landing against a tree, moaning. Then, they come at me with full force, but I move out of the way just in time to see them run head first into the tree. I howl for help again and again until a couple of my fellow mammals finally come. I really like how kind they are to me. While they try to fight off the monster, I go get a drink, so the water can nourish me back to health. When I am nourished, I go back to fight again because I now know how to kill the evil monster. I tell the other foxes to follow me. I lead them and the monster to the nearest hen house where I see the fat farmer standing right where I want him. You could tell the farmer is frightened because he yells something and more farmers come with their pitchforks. We run full speed at the farmers with the monster following in our footsteps. Then, when we are inches away from the farmers, we run left and right, while the monster charges into the pitchforks getting killed. The monster bursts into black and red ashes, screaming a bloodcurdling scream. The ashes get all over us. Even when we cough, about a pound of ashes come out of our mouths. While walking back to my den, I think that tomorrow’s just going to be another normal day.

The Sneaky One By Eva Jungermann When I write, I feel like I’m running In the woods. I feel like the only one With my silky, Red, Fur. The tree is part for me Making it easier to get around, And search for food. When I write, Nothing Can get in my way. Then when I’m in the hen house And the farmer finds me, I almost get killed. My heart beating In my head, Stuck on what to write. But then I get sneakily away. When I can finally get my teeth On a hen, The meat tastes good. Juicy. My writing flows From my head To the keys, And the flavor stays In my mouth Until I finish, And go back To the real, Human, World.
