What is MAP Growth Testing?
MAP Growth is a computer adaptive test created by NWEA. The results provide teachers with information to help them deliver appropriate content for each student and determine each student’s academic growth over time.
Why do we test students?
To provide an objective lens through which we can examine the current skills of our students To help teachers as they... foster academic growth (inspire joyful learning!) drive targeted instruction (honor each child!) spotlight strengths and identify areas for improvement To help administrators as they... check student learning progress at an individual and group level make decisions about programming, staffing needs, curriculum, instructional practices, and professional development goals
Teachers and administrators interpret results of standardized tests as part of a broad range of information gathered, including: • teacher observations • student work • collaboration with peers • performance on projects • ongoing formal and informal content assessments
Standardized tests cannot measure....

What does a percentile score show?
Percentile scores show how our students scored compared to their peers. A score in the 75th percentile means that a student outperformed 75% of their grade-level peers nationwide. (It does not mean that they only answered 75% of questions correctly!)
A stable percentile shows that students have made a year’s growth in a year’s time. This is learning! An increase in percentile means that students are making greater than one year’s growth over the course of one school year. This is accelerated learning! Let’s see how we did…

Looking Ahead...
Highlight enrichment opportunities in STEM fields. Marin Primary & Middle School’s Mathletes team, Math Olympiad club, Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad contest, Math Explorers club, and Explorations Lab elective are all great ways to encourage our students to invest their enthusiasm and energy into STEM.
Promote & host more engagement in literary fields. Our upcoming Excellence in Reading challenge and Scripps Spelling Bee contest offer opportunities for our students to shine in language arts. Our librarians will also be welcoming readers to lunch bunch book clubs during the rainy winter months!
Build home-school connections through parent education & affinity groups. Our parent community is active and invested. We can foster our strong partnership by offering more expert speakers and a range of affinity groups to support our families.
Thank you!
