Wasted Space Architecture

Wasted Space Architecture Project Type: Community/Infrastructure Location: Euless, Texas
The Wasted Space Architecture project was an attempt to reclaim the wasted space above expressways adjacent to neighborhoods. The idea was to create a prototype to be manipulated and replicated in other locations around the nation. The site developed was in Euless Texas, a city in the Dallas-metro area. The development of this project began during the Covid-19 lockdown and was geared towards creating a remote-working location for the nearby residents. The building was filled out with spaces to support the community such as a kitchen space, cafe, expressway-level bus connection, rooftop sports courts, exhibit space, daycare, and a capsule hotel. The capsule hotel was meant for travelers at the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth airport to take a shuttle and stay at this location with spaces to work, relax, and play.
4
The structure was developed as two steel modules meeting in the middle. The inner structure was developed with wood so the community can easily reconfigure the main/second levels in the future. The facade was wrapped in glass for an abundance of daylighting with vegetation lining each level to introduce nature across the concrete expressway below.

The Platform House Project Type: Private Residence Location: Elk, (North) California
The client wanted a house on California’s ocean coast which would provide a pool and regulation diving platforms for the husband to practice on. The wife requested a private office space for her to work at home from. The couple wanted a flowing floor plan with an open area for entertaining. The entertaining space was to extend outward from the building into an exterior entertaining area. Requested Spaces: •Olympic Diving Platforms •Private Office •Open Entertaining Area •Private Bedroom Area The client requested the bedrooms be separated from the common spaces within the house. The common spaces naturally sat near each other and were tied back into the pool area. A series of exterior ladders and interior stairs reach each level of diving platforms. This was designed so as you are using the pool you do not have to enter the living spaces to use the diving platforms. To incorporate the diving platforms into the house, the spaces were developed as cubes and stacked together to form the diving tower.

Hunters Point Market Project Type: Public Market Location: Hunters Point, San Francisco, California
The Hunters Point Market was an urban infill project along a curved corner in the Hunters Point neighborhood. The neighborhood was a food desert and an introduction of a public market was much needed. The open-air market was achieved with an over-arching gridshell timber frame. The organic shape and use of wood was meant to be inviting to the community. A disconnected indoor bike garage was designed to promote bicycling to the market. A cafe space faces the adjacent coastline on the main level for the community to stop by and relax.
20
The site contained garden spaces and a plaza space near the waterfront for performances and public gatherings. The lower level contained office spaces for the market along with a lerge public shower facility. An upper mezzanine level contained a tool rental area and community resource spaces.

Berlin Museum
ARH 608-Spring 2020
Project Type: Art Gallery Location: Berlin, Germany
The Berlin Museum was developed with the existing vegetation and public in mind. The massign of the building is carved away by the existing mature trees onsite along with adding centrally-located trees to the site. The building was located adjacent to Mies van der Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie and the Berlin Philharmonic building. Utilizing the architectural precidents along with the fabric of the surrounding city resulted in a public-first approach to the building.
24
The art gallery and exibit halls were elevated to the second floor for larger room sizes, while the main level contained a cafe, classrooms, museum gift shop, and service spaces. The rest of the main level was left open for exterior gallery space and public space.
