MPSEOC | Montana Post Secondary Educational Opportunities Council | www.MontanaColleges.com Supporting Quality Access To Higher Education

Hi Montana Counselors!

We hope you had a wonderful summer! We are excited to see you at the Montana College Fairs soon! The Montana Post Secondary Educational Opportunities Council (MPSEOC) feels strongly that college preparation begins with providing useful and timely information to students, counselors, and families. The 2019 MPSEOC College Fairs and Online, Interactive Guide are just starting places to how we can educate these groups about the many options after high school. Please take some time to review the Guide and College Profile Directory at www.MontanaColleges.com to develop a plan for how you will use this free resource with your students. Also, please review the online student registration and safety plan for this year’s college fairs! Thank you!

Who should attend the college fairs? All Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Parents, and Counselors are invited to attend the MPSEOC College Fairs! We thank you, as a Montana Counselor, for your support of these fairs by taking the time to bring your students to the fair in your area. We also appreciate your promotion of these fairs to your student’s parents, for we believe that this process is a family effort and is a great support to the student. Included in this packet is a detailed listing of the fair your school is scheduled to attend. The site coordinator of that specific fair will be in contact with you to determine the exact time within that fair block that will work best for you to arrive. Thank you again for your hard work in getting your students to the fair!

We ask that students REGISTER ONLINE for the Fair! As an entry pass into the fair, we ask students to register before the fairs online @ www.MPSEOCLogin.com or www.MontanaColleges.com and print off the bar code pass when done. This bar code pass will be their entry pass into the fair. It also will be how they will register for the $1,000 scholarship and how they will be able to gain information from the colleges at the fairs. No longer will students need to fill out mass numbers of contact cards from the colleges, for now they will simply be able to scan their bar code at the colleges in which they are interested. However, if a student is unable to register before the fair, he/she may still attend and has the options to register on their personal phone or attend and fill out contact cards by hand.

What Safety & Security steps do you & your students need to take? SAFETY & SECURITY | These events can get very busy due to many highs schools attending each event. Therefore, in an effort to keep these events safe and less crowded, we are asking all students to leave their backpacks and extra bags on the bus or in their car. We will be providing bags in the entryway for students to collect information. Each hosting fair site is taking their own additional safety and security steps with many having onsite security and several of the sites screening for no bags in the fair. If you have further questions about this plan for the fair you are attending, please contact the site host contact listed in this packet for more details. Thank you for your team help to keep these events safe.

Who is coming to the fairs? How do my students prepare for the fairs? Included in this mailing is a list of all the institutions attending the college fairs and those in the online Guide Book. By visiting www.montanacolleges.com/colleges , students may research each of these colleges ahead of time. This website and resources will be a great help in preparing your students for the College Fair in your area. See you in September at the Fair!

How do my students access the Online, Interactive Guide Book? We offer this fun, interactive, online Guide Book free to you and your students. We encourage you to refer your Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Freshman, and Parents to our Online Version of the Guide Book at NO COST. This Online Guide Book is a great tool in preparation for options after high school. Visit www.montanacolleges.com/guidebook to view, play, take a skills test, print off checklists and timelines, or download the full version of this year’s exciting version.

What is the Support Montana Students Celebration? How can your high school & community join in this celebration? Included in this mailing is more detailed information on this annual, statewide celebration. We hope you and your faculty, staff, and community will participate in showing students your support. Here is your chance to show your support of students in an easy way. For more details on how your school can participate, visit: www.SupportMontanaStudents.org . Join the celebration to help Montana students!

We look forward to seeing you, your students, and their parents at the college fair in your area!

MONTANA COLLEGE FAIR faq’s

Student registration & counselor login If you are having a technical error printing your bar code for the fair, please call our Web Registration Help‐Line @ 1‐ 888‐601‐0200 and tell them you are trying to register for the Montana Fairs.

Why should I encourage a student to register? Overall, the registration process for a student is simple and makes the college fair experience much more efficient and enjoyable. This Bar Code allows for easy scanning and no need to complete “by hand” the prospect cards at each college table. This step allows your fairs to go green! Each student will fill out a registration form online and provide their information only once, elaborating on their academic interests and more. This increases face‐to‐face time for both the admissions representative and the student.

Have we made adjustments to the online registration & attendance sheets for this year? NEW UPDATES! This year we are working hard to streamline the registration process for you and your students. These new steps will help make this process easier for you and your students. We also really appreciated your feedback from last year with the challenges presented in some of the mobile registrations, and we are working on removing the extra steps with the high school selection area of the form. Please share any questions/concerns with us however, for we want to make this as easy and painless as possible. Many, many thanks for all your team efforts on this!

How may I promote the use of the barcode to each student? We have sent to you registration cards for your students, so you can give those directly to your students to help with the registration process. We also suggest posting information flyers in the school hallways. You may also consider using the registration as a homework assignment where the student presents their barcode as completion of the assignment. Other ideas are that you may want to post the registration information in the school’s newsletter and on the website. Some counselors have mentioned that they like to announce the registration process during a class assembly or during student orientation. However, if a student is unable to register before the fair, he/she may still attend and has the option to register on their personal phone or attend and fill out contact cards by hand.

Navigate to www.MontanaColleges.com/counselors website and click the gold button in the middle of the page that says “COUNSELOR FAIR LOGIN” to create or access your account. From there it will take you to the login page and select “Create One Here” and enter the requested information. If you already have an account, enter the username and password created when the account was established. If you are having a technical error printing your bar code for the fair, please call our Web Registration Help‐ Line @ 1‐ 888‐601‐0200 and tell them you are trying to register for the Montana Fairs and are having technical problems, and they will be happy to help you.

Is it possible to find out if students attend a fair & what was their college interest(s)? NEW! This is a new function, and we are excited to say yes to this question! This fall for you as the counselor will be able to see this information from your Student Registrations at your High School and 3 Year Trend: College Interest Reports sections on your counselor dashboard. We hope this helps you with your year‐round counselor of your students.

May I also get information from colleges with a barcode? NEW! Yes, you may now print your own counselor barcode and take it to the college fair to collect information for your own counseling office.

May I print the student barcodes? From your counselor account, you have the ability to either bulk or individually print the barcodes. Students will also receive an email reminder with their barcode attached two days before the fair.

Is it possible for a student to register on their smartphone? Yes, a student may use their smartphone to access the www.mpseoclogin.com or www.MontanaColleges.com webpage to register. We always suggest a paper copy of the barcode, as all colleges may not have the ability to scan the barcode from a mobile device.
