A NOTE FROM RPI PROMOTIONS
Welcome to the second year of the Cattlemen’s Invite, a direct mail piece that is sent to cattlemen throughout the region (South Dakota and surrounding states) who want to buy and sell cattle. As you look into the future and make a plan on what and where your bull buying dollars will be spent, keep in mind that the decisions you make this coming year will affect what you sell in approximately two years. Things will be different! The one thing that will remain the same is demand from the consumer to have good tasting, quality beef to put on their table! When you sell your calves, they must have the desired weight the buyers are looking for and they must look healthy and have a phenotype that will entice the buyer to “want” to own them. Reputation cattle will always sell at the top and the next few years we cannot take a step backwards to save a few dollars on breeding stock. The cattle raised in this region are without question, some of the best phenoytpe and genetically superior cattle in the world. Will buying the right type of bull bring more dollars to the table when it comes time to sell calves or keep heifer replacements? I believe so. Now, with that said, there are a number of different environments that we raise cattle in and the cattle need to be able to perform in those environments to get the most performance (weight and dollars) from them. This coming bull sale season looks to be a situation where the buyer can get into the very top end of the bull quality easier than ever before. When you have that chance, it would be a wise decision to take the extra step and purchase the best bulls you can buy to breed your cows. There are budgets and restrictions to just about everything we purchase. I suggest you draw a line in the sand of what level you have been buying your bulls, and take a step up, make your decisions on bull purchases and work within your means to get top quality! There is a difference! It seems like never before has receiving an extra $100 - $200 per head for superior genetics been so important. Two years down the road when you are selling the progeny of the seed stock you own, the extra quality you stretched to buy could make a whale of a difference! There are a number of seedstock programs featured in this November issue of the Cattlemen’s Invite. Look through the issue and don’t hesitate to contact the breeders with questions about their program. They want to help the commercial cattlemen succeed and prosper; it’s their way of life! We will be looking at cattle this fall and attending a number of fall livestock sales and events. If you need help marketing your bulls, or need help making your purchases, don’t hesitate to give us a call. Thanks again for your support, trust, and friendship.
