Welcome to our 41st Annual Bull Sale

As everyone in this area knows this past winter was a real challenge. It was hard on cattle, cattle people, fences, buildings, trees and machinery. Some say it was a winter to remember but I would rather not remember it.

I think in December the bulls gained nothing. Our bunks were buried 6 feet deep in snow. There was a two-week period that they got nothing but hay and water sometimes. They looked really tough.

It’s absolutely amazing how they have changed since then. When the weather got a little better and they got back on good feed our genetics kicked in. Boy did they respond. They are still lighter than normal and lighter than we like them to be, but they look pretty darn good now. Come take a look!

Like we have the past 40 years, we feed them twice a day with buckets. The bulls are very docile anyway but feeding by hand makes them even more docile.

We feel we have some bulls that will fit anyone’s needs from power house cow bulls to some sure shot calving ease bulls.

A resident herd sire that we really think a lot of. He is loaded with maternal growth and carcass. A very clean fronted bull with a great big hip. Two sons were in the winning carload at Denver for the Krebs Ranch this year.

One of the most popular Angus bulls in the breed today. A Stellar son that is calving ease and highly maternal. We used him on heifers with no problems.

What a way to kick off the 2023 offering and the Rally 9064 sire group. Lot 21 does about everything right. He is in our opinion one, if not the most balanced bull in the offering. He hit the ground running and just never quit. He is the heaviest weaning/yearling in the crop and is in the top 1% in both EPD categories and also heifer pregnancy. 23 has been one of the favorites since day 1 and continued that through the summer and into weaning. His moderate framed 8yr old Schurrtop Chief dam is one of the favorite cows on the place and should make this 9064 son breed with a little more ease than some of his contemporaries. This 9064 son rolls into the ring with a more moderate birth weight at +1/76 but still doesn’t slouch in the power department. Top 5% in WW EPD and top 1% in heifer pregnancy. These type of bulls are tough to find that have enough performance but can also work on heifers. When he’s done in the heifer pasture he can be moved right onto young cows without setting you back. He’s a dual threat. My kind of bull.

This fella was one of Don Ravellette’s favorites on picture day and with good reason. Super attractive patterned bull that is sky high in phenotype. Out of a 7yr old Woodhill Mel daughter that goes back to Hoover Dam. She was the best in her sire group class and just doesn’t seem to miss. Great cow man Rob Calkins purchased her KR Storm calf last year that was also one of the top bulls in the offering. This bull has a story to tell. He came earlier than expected on a -7 degree night. His now 4 yr old dam mothered her second calf as beautifully as one could. She had him in the middle of the herd on bedding, licked him dry and got him going, and never left his side until morning. Hardly even a nip in the ear. Now that is true $ maternal! Couple that with top 1% weight values, heifer pregnancy, high milk, solid carcass, and a combined 321 dollar value…and this bull checks about as many boxes as one can.

Kicking off the Resilient 10208 sire group is a calf we obtained in the Opp complete dispersal in Dickinson, ND. Congrats to Joel and the entire family on a truly amazing set of cattle. We felt this calf was the best one offered in North Dakota that day and he has not disappointed. Out of a beautiful Paintrock Trapper dam that should have came south with her calf. Where do we begin on this son of Sterling Pacific 904? He has been “ one of those” type calves from the beginning. Out of an absolute knockout 5yr old Real Performance daughter. She’s one of those cows that you could just stare all day at in amazement. Remarkably powerful but still feminine, standing on a good foot and near perfect udder. I wish I had 100 cows just like her! The combo between her and 904 was a perfect match. It made a soggy and powerful bull with a raging hind quarter and a big scrotal. On top of that he carries a remarkable +14 calving ease direct on top of a -1 BW EPD! An absolute favorite and SALE FEATURE. If you covet THE heifer bull in this offering, this is him.

The second of two sons of 904 in the sale also can not be overshadowed. He is different in his build than 232 but very impressive in his own right. More of a power bull with a bit more frame, his 7yr old Woodhill Mel dam seems to just get it done every year. She sired the top power bull in last years offering, a Coalition 8262 son that was purchased by the Slaba Ranch. We only sampled 904 in this crop of calves but we are very impressed with what we have seen. There will be more to come in the future out of this amazing sire and sons. That is a guarantee!

He was a herd marker with Macyn’s pink ear tag but we didn’t need the different color to find this bull day in and day out. 240 really has the look of his sire who was one of the sharpest looking bulls that’s ever been at Miller Angus. He also reminds me of one of the favorite 8124’s last year that was purchased by Kent and Sonja Aasby. 8124 definitely stamps his progeny. 240 is out of a solid 5yr old James Final Answer dam. One of the very top heifer bulls in this offering with the looks to match. Very highly recommended.

Lot 246 starts a trio of Playbook progeny. We really like the look and style of his calves. We used this bull to finish off some heifers and I’m sure glad we did. 246 is out of a Whitlock 639 power heifer that currently has a super nice heifer calf at side sired by our Sitz Exclusive herd bull. Top 1% in heifer pregnancy and top 10% in milk and $M. This bull should be able to be used on good sized heifers with no performance lost. Same cow family as lot 29. This Car Don Annuity calf came to us by way of a KR Synergy heifer purchased in the Pearls of Prairie sale from Hoffman Angus. We are overly pleased with the decision to bring that heifer home that day as this calf has been so fun to watch grow. The Annuity and Synergy mating turned out like I hoped it would and so much more. The Synergy dam is super docile and moderate in her build which pairs greatly with the bigger framed Annuity. 249 stands on a great foot just like his sire but in a little more compact frame shape with Synergy on the bottom side. Great depth in rib and a powerful hind quarter makes this bull super attractive. This Annuity is in the top 3% in WW/YW EPD, top 10% in milk and docility that holds true to the core with Savannah on board. All in a heifer bull package to boot. One of the absolute favorite bulls in the sale and a SALE FEATURE.
