Ponca Creek Cattle Company, located 6 miles West and 4 miles South of Bonesteel, SD, was established in 1986 when Tom and Cindy Lillibridge purchased a section of land containing the Ponca Creek from Cindy’s parents, Logan & Leone Thoene. Cindy’s great grandfather Julius Thoene started this ranch in 1904 when the area was opened for settlement. The first registered Angus Cows were purchased from Landmark Cattle in 1986. Other bloodlines were introduced from Bon View Farms, Connealy Angus and Assman Land & Cattle. Our goal is to produce highly maternal, docile cattle with excellent growth and carcass characteristics that will benefit anyone’s herd. Our many repeat customers tell us that we are successful in achieving these goals. Ponca Creek Blackbird 955, a third generation Pathfinder dam and the mother of Ponca Creek Pepper and Ponca Creek Revenue 955, has now become our primary ET donor. You will see her along with her Tour of Duty calf. We are pleased to have as herdsmen Dwight and his daughter, Liz Pepper. Dwight has been our main advisor in our AI program for several years and is very familiar with our whole herd. Feel free to call him about any questions you might have. Thank you for attending the tour. We hope that you will enjoy yourselves and it will be an educational experience. Tom & Cindy Lillibridge 605-654-2874 605-830-0210 (cell) Dwight Pepper 605-830-1072

TO U R Graesser Bros. Angus of Dallas SD is a family operation located approximately 50 miles west of the Missiouri River and 5 miles north of the South Dakota/Nebraska border. This South Central South Dakota location is in the heart of cattle country 5 miles north of the Keya Paha River and the Sand Hills of Nebraska. Some of the best Angus bred cattle are located in this area west of the Missouri River. Graesser Bros. consists of brothers Kevin and Rod and Kevin’s son Derek. Our family has been at this location since 1939, started by our grandfather Thomas and father Walt. It has always been a cattle operation dedicated to having the best genetic cow herd possible. With the addition of Rod in 1974, after college, AI was introduced. The angus breed was also introduced in the mid 70’s. Upon our parent’s semi-retirement in 1991, Kevin joined in. In the late 90’s we introduced the first purebred angus cows through embryo transfer. 2004 brought our first private treaty bulls. In December of 2008 we took our biggest step and purchased the bulk of our purebred angus cows from Assman Land and Cattle at their dispersion, where we felt we were able to get some of the best angus genetics at this time. February of 2010 we were able to have our first public bull sale in Winner SD. Forgey Angus (Dan and Lyn) had also purchased Assman genetics and it became known as Forgey/Graesser bull sale. We completed our 7th annual sale together in March, now at the Forgey sale facility located only 3 miles from our place. With the addition of Derek in 2012, we have stepped up our production of AI and ET to bring some of the best Angus genetics to our program. We continue to stress that our cows be our most important part of our operation. Our father was proud of his cowherd and hopefully he instilled that in us. Our mission is to produce high quality, sound, Black Angus, Simmental, and Sim/Angus bulls. Graesser Bros. strives to give our customer the best balanced genetics possible by improving our herd each and every year. We welcome you to the tour. And, as always, we welcome visitors and would enjoy visiting about our cattle and yours. Kevin Forgey 605-835-8223 605-830-1574

TO U R Welcome to Forgey Angus and South Dakota Angus tour. Forgey Angus comprises Dan and Lyn and our kids, Geoff and Skylar. We are located where I was born and raised in southern Tripp County. Dad and Mom moved there and started our family operation in 1957. The land is mainly large rolling hills and good pasture. We started the registered herd with a heifer purchase from Assman Land & Cattle in 1998. We began putting embryos in for ALC and were allowed to keep a few heifer picks over the years. Our first Private Treaty Sale was in 2004. In 2008, we bought a pot load of cows and heifers from the Assman Land & Cattle dispersion. In 2010, we had our first public auction in Winner, SD. We moved the sale to our ranch in 2015. We market 150 bulls a year plus offer heifers and cows at private treaty! We have an extensive embryo program with our own donors I03U, S60U, P89, and our latest purchase of Baldridge Pratissa W165. We are really excited about the embryo program with 250 embryo transfer for 2017. The future is bright for Forgey Angus! We hope you enjoy the tour and look forward to seeing and visiting with everyone.

Day 1 – Stop 4

TO U R

A hearty welcome from the DeMers Ranch to everyone attending the 2016 South Dakota Angus Tour. We appreciate your presence, input and visitng with each and everyone. The DeMers family has farmed and ranched in Tripp County, S.D. since the great land drawing of Tripp County in 1908. There were 6,000 lucky winners in the Tripp County land drawing in Uncle Sam’s lottery. Hector DeMers of Elk Point, S.D. was lucky #1810. He had planned on moving to Cumberland, Wisconsin, when on a whim he registered for the free land in the Rosebud drawing for Tripp County. Not confident he would win, he had already moved his wife to Cumberland and started building a house. Upon receiving the good news, he packed everything and moved to his new homestead 9 miles south and 1 mile east of Colome, S.D. His eldest son stayed on the homestead and this land is still in the family. In 1920, he moved the rest of the family 4 miles west and 1 mile north of Colome. This is where he started the DeMers Dairy, serving the Colome and Winner communities with fresh bottled milk daily. The DeMers Dairy farmstead is also still in the family. Hector’s son, Lawrence moved 1/2 mile east of the DeMers Dairy farm, this land is owned by son, Keith and wife, Lynn. Lawrence purchased a farm 1 mile east and 1 mile north where son, Ron and his wife, Kate and their son, Ross and wife, Kim and family reside. In 1973 Lawrence and Ron started the L&R DeMers Ranch, purchasing registered Limousin heifers; thus beginning the Private Treaty bull sales. In 1983, registered Simmental cattle were purchased and brother Keith joined the partnership. After Lawrence retired and moved to Winner, Ron’s son Ross came back to the ranch after college. In 2002, we decided to faze out of the Limousin cattle and start a registered Angus herd. This has proven to be a wise and profitable decision. We are a 4-H enthusiastic family; beginning with Ron and Kate’s children and now continuing with their grandchildren. 4-H involvement has enhanced our children’s lives and been a big impact on their values and success in life. What better way to get started in the cattle business then 4-H and F.F.A. Keith manages the farming business and Ron manages the cattle business, with Ross helping in both the farming/ranching. We currently run 500 head of registered Angus and Simmental cattle. We sell 150 yearling registered bulls a year as a private treaty bull sale. We are now starting our fifth generation of the DeMers Ranch family operation in S.D. Ron and Kate’s grandchildren are great assets helping out working and moving cattle and with general ranch work. The DeMers Ranch strive to select sound mother cows with great numbers and performance records. The same holds true when selecting herd bulls; striving to use structurally sound, with thickness and depth that will produce progeny that will be profitable to please our customers, in appearance, improving their herds and financially.

TO U R Brozik Angus Ranch, owned and operated by Dave and Bernadine Brozik and their two sons David and Ethan, is conveniently located 1.5 miles southeast of Winner, South Dakota, right along Highway 18. Dave Sr. established the ranch at its current location in 1983. He started out in an open pasture with no house or buildings, no tree groves, and no corrals. Everything had to be planted or built. He ran a few cows and pigs, and did sheep shearing on the side. As time went on, the pigs were sold and cattle became the main focus of the operation. Early on, David Jr. developed a love for cattle, and at age 12, purchased his first registered angus female from Littau Angus in 2000. That spring, an A.I. program was implemented for the first time on the yearling heifers. Dave Sr. attended an A.I. training program in 2002, and over the next several years the A.I. program expanded to include all the heifers and the majority of the cowherd. In the fall of 2008 the decision was made to purchase the entire herd of 80 registered cows from the Travis Pieper estate. These cows along with the registered cattle already owned formed the nucleus of the current cow herd, which now consists of approx. 150 reg. cows, 50 commercial cows, and 50 bred heifers. Over the last several years, influence has been added from Schaff Angus Valley A.I. sires, and Vermillion Ranch females. We had our first bull sale in March of 2012, and have been hosting an annual sale at Winner Livestock ever since. Notable A.I. sires that have left a mark on our herd include: SAV Net Worth 4200, SAV Bismarck 5682, Hoover Dam, Mogck Bullseye, and SAV International 2020. Along the way we would supplement the A.I. sires by purchasing a few select herd bulls. Most significantly among these was our Vermilion Madison X804 sire, who left behind some hard working daughters who are making valuable assets to our program. Currently, we have a very powerful herd sire purchased from Canada, LFE Tundra 3010Z. His first calf crop proved to be outstanding, including our high selling bull in the 2016 sale. He, along with his first daughters will be on display at our tour stop. The 2016 calf crop that will be on display is sired by SAV International 2020, SAV Revere 1180, and SAV Buenos Aires 3454. We hope you enjoy the tour and we look forward to seeing you.

TO U R

From all of us at Raven Angus, we would like to welcome everyone to the 2016 South Dakota Angus Tour. Raven Angus is located 3 miles east of Colome on US Hwy 18. We were established in 1955. Ray and Betty started with 10 cows, which were purchased from Robert Lynch from Malloy IA. Since then, the family and business have grown. Today, Raven Angus is owned and operated by Rod and Leslie and their two sons, RJ and Reed and their families. Over the last 60 years the ranch has grown to 650 registered mother cows along with 170 bred heifers. We will sell 250 bulls the last Thursday in February, including 175 yearlings and 75 two year olds. The yearling bulls are January and February born calves, leaving any calves born in March and April for two year olds. Our program was built from the inside out. We started small and grew along with our customer base. We sell most all of our bulls within an hour from the ranch, and we feel that speaks volumes of our program. Customer satisfaction is our first priority! For us, nothing is more important than keeping our clients happy. In 2005, we began to offer a calf buyback program. We believe in our genetics so much, that we felt it made sense to purchase feeder cattle and finish them. By doing this, we can see what value can be added to our product. In December, we held our first annual Raven Angus genetically-influenced replacement and bred heifer sale. This was created to assist our customers in marketing there females. Here at Raven Angus we strive for balance. We don't select bulls on any single trait, and we always keep the maternal end of it in mind. In the end, the factor that has made Angus cattle so popular today is the Angus female. We look forward to seeing everyone on the tour. Four generations of the Novotny Family have been farming and ranching on the home place that is located 6 miles south and threefourths mile east of Winner, SD. Virgil and Delores Novotny still reside in the original farm house that was built by his parents, Edward and Otillia Novotny in 1925. At that time, Ed and Otillia started raising Hereford cattle. Virgil started his own herd in 1956. Currently Virgil and Delores’s two sons, Mike and Todd Novotny, along with their son-in-law Mike Levi and grandson Michael Levi, run the cow/calf operation. Our accomplishments at Novotny Angus represent four generations of livestock expertise. We have raised and fed cattle in the same location for over ninety years. We are very focused on building low maintenance, high producing, moderately framed male and female seed stock. For the last fifteen years we have focused on whole herd efficiency, not selecting for any one specific trait, but instead using multiple traits to build efficiency and longevity into our herds. At Novotny Angus we believe ourselves to be leaders in Age & Source Verification of cattle. We are very proud of the fact that our cattle can truly be traced from conception right to your dinner plate. We currently sell our slaughter cattle into NHTC (Non Hormone Treated Cattle) markets making them eligible for export into the very strict markets of the European Union. Our ability to tap into this market pays us premiums of up to one hundred dollars per head over market prices. This would be impossible without the strict and stringent record keeping programs we have in place. We are available anytime to answer questions about the cattle or any of the programs that we participate in. Our annual bull sale is the 1st Friday in April and is held at the Winner Livestock Auction Company.

5 Generations working together The Larson Family Ranch is located near Hamill, S.D. The ranch is located on the south side of the White River in Tripp and Lyman counties, boasting approximately 25-30 miles of river frontage plus acres of river breaks above the White River/Missouri River. It includes miles of native grass interspersed with cropland and food plots for wildlife to winter on. Nels and Sena Larsen; and Andrew and Mary Larson; moved to the wide open spaces of South Dakota from Minnesota and Nebraska, respectively, in 1909, staking their claim and building their homesteads, one of which still stands on the ranch today. The ranch has stayed in the Larson family through the generations. Today the 20,000+ acre ranch is home to Darrell & Fran, son Audie his wife Holly, son Monte, Daughter Vicki & Husband Joel Stuart and families. As well as cousin Dennis. The driven family works together every single day to operate a ranch that is so much more when visiting. The Larson family maintains a herd of 570 registered cattle, mainly Black Angus. The operation also supports a heard of 150 commercial cattle, 100 fall cows, and 800 bred heifers for resale. “We have had some of the same customers since 1969. They will call us and say, ‘Save me 25 heifers out of this group’ and then come and pick them up without hardly even looking at them.” “We feel we have an obligation to leave the land and livestock better than when we started, and to make each person we meet a little better than before we met.” For more information on the Larson Family Ranch, visit www.larsonranchllc.com, or check them out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/larsonranchllc.

The DeJong Ranch was established in 1948 by brothers Bud and Leo DeJong. They moved from Eagle Butte, SD, where their father had homesteaded, to the present place 16 miles south of Kennebec, SD. There were three main priorities when searching for a new location. First a Bible believing Christ centered church, second good water and third good protection. They started out with both commercial and registered Angus cows along with running yearlings. Horses were a big influence as well and the DeJong Brothers were very involved in breeding and raising Quarter horses. At that time only Angus calves born by natural service could be registered, so because they could not afford to purchase good enough Angus bulls to use naturally, they made the decision to start AI’ing in 1961, and were not able to register the AI’ed calves. After selling bulls by private treaty, their First Annual Bull Sale was held March 10, 1969 in Chamberlain SD where they sold 38 Angus bulls averaging $391 and 24 Charolais bulls averaging $539 with a total commission of $200 and brand inspection of $12.06. Wow, how things have changed. The 49th Annual Bull Sale will be held in February 2017. Through the years some registered females have been added and AI’ing to registered Angus bulls continued keeping a straight Angus line. In addition several other breeds have been added to the mix taking advantage of traits that complimented the Angus breed and their belief in performance cattle with eye appeal. Today Angus, Maine Anjou and Simmental are the primary focus. Females are also offered each fall by private treaty or auction, with the latest venture being the Dakota Style Sale offering show heifer prospects, bred heifers and donor quality females with the Nagel Cattle Co. and Eastview Maines in the fall. With the 5th generation now being born we look forward to continuing to be involved in a way of life that many aren’t privileged to experience and to enjoy and serve in the creation God has made.

LeRoy and Bob Littau own and operate Littau Angus following the footsteps of their father by raising registered Angus cattle. In 1955, Reuben and Betty Littau bought their first Angus cattle and in 1956 bought their first registered bull from a herd in Nebraska. A year later, the couple added register cows. The ranch has continued to expand to over 7000 acres owned and rented and now includes their sons. Reuben was a charter member of the Central South Dakota Aberdeen Angus Association which was organized in 1959. In 1965 the name was changed to the Rosebud Angus Association. It sponsored a show and sale in Gregory and later a sale in Winner. Reuben managed the sale from 1966 until they ceased having a sale. He also managed the Angus Show at the Rapid City Stock Show and Winner Show for several years. Since 1975, the Littaus have held a sale each year. In 2005, the American Angus Association recognized the Littaus for a 50 year historical Angus herd. In 1992, the family was named the South Dakota Seed Stock Producer of the Year by the South Dakota Beef Improvement Association. They have an extensive AI Program and do some ET work. The bull sale is the last Tuesday in March and they also sell bred heifers and HTC feeder steers. Visitors are always welcome! Leroy Littau 605-557-3533

The Joseph Angus Ranch, situated along the Crazy Hole Creek features abundant grassland, farm ground & the home of South Dakota’s 3rd largest registered Angus herd. There are 3,500 acres 15 miles south of Carter, South Dakota purchased by Roger Joseph in 2002. In addition to Black Angus cattle the ranch has produced alfalfa, corn, oats, Quarter horses and one of the area’s best little fishing ponds. Roger is joined on the ranch by herdsman Trent Buoy, his wife Krystal and their son Sage. The program in place at Joseph Angus is the product of owner, Roger Joseph’s extensive experience in beef production. He has been involved in beef production since graduating the University of Nebraska in the late 1970’s. From the early days in the feedlot to owning Valentine Nebraska’s Peppermill Steakhouse at the turn of the century, to now when Joseph Angus is planning the 19th Annual Bull Sale it has been quite a ride. Roger has had the unique opportunity to truly be involved with the country’s best beef from the pasture to the plate. Joseph Angus runs 400 fall calving cows and 100 cows calving each spring. This allows the ranch to have a good selection of yearling, fall and 2 year bulls for each annual production sale. It is with the diverse needs of commercial cattlemen and women in mind that this ranch conducts business. The ranch specializes in producing superior seed stock through selection of the best maternal genetics available in the breed. Bulls are fed a high roughage ration and raised on a hill by the creek assuring that each individual has sound feet and will be among the best conditioned animals in any pasture. Disposition is also a high priority at the ranch. Bulls are hand-fed and handled with horses to complement genetics already predisposition for docility. In fact, there has even been a bull you could ride if you were looking for a leisurely stroll through the pen! Recently the Joseph Angus Ranch has added some of the best herd sires available for sale. Connealy Conquest, Super Duty, the Black Diamond Bull & Waylon son, Baldridge Abundance are all currently at stud services waiting to become a big part of the next generation. It has been a great pleasure to serve the people of cattle country both on the ranch and in the restaurant over the years. Stop by anytime to see our developing program at the Joseph Angus Ranch.

Combining two programs into one has been a main goal for Wolf Angus. Nick & I have been married since 2011, and we both have been raising Angus genetics since 2006. Growing up, we were very active in 4-H, graduates from SDSU and have been active in the ag industry our whole lives. Nick is employed at Assman-Lovejoy Angus/SimAngus Ranch south of Carter and is also a sales rep for Genex CRI. I am employed as a loan officer for FSA. We live on the ranch along with our family - Colt, Whitley & Cowan. Most of our days around the ranch include tagging along with dad, riding our horse Cactus, or long hours of working in the sandbox. In 2009, we purchased genetics from Assman Land & Cattle and that is the majority of our foundation females. We typically have our Bull Production Sale the third Monday in February. We price the bulls and have a private treaty phone bid off. The bulls are fed on the range with plenty of exercise which results in athletic, lean muscled bull that is structurally correct which enables the bulls to travel and cover a cow herd. The bulls are handled in a natural environment that is beneficial to the longevity of the useful life span of the bull. In our program we focus on producing pounds with keeping the maternal characteristics in mind. We want our dams feminine and to have the ability to pack pounds on the calves while keeping long term fertility as the main importance. We were able to keep back 30 head of heifers this year that we believe would be an asset to any herd. Our goals are to expand and improve our herd while becoming more active within the cattle industry. We welcome visitors any time. We would love to show you around and have dinner. I’m sure the kiddos will have some stories for you too. Nick and Staci Wolf 605-840-1715 605-770-7066

The Flying E Angus Ranch, operated by Ryan & Cindi Edwards, is located in Melette County, 20 miles north of Wood SD right along the White River. We sell 2 year registered angus bulls. These bulls are 2 year olds by design not default, these are not bulls that missed the cut at last years sale. These bulls are developed slowly with pasture and patience. Our bulls are sorted several times and run in rough river break country. If he’s going to fall apart he’ll do it long before you own him. We sell our bulls the first Friday March 3rd 2017. Check our website at flyingeangusranch.com for more information about us and our bulls. Thanks for looking and enjoy the tour. Ryan & Cindi Edwards 605-452-3383

Day 2 – Stop 7

TO U R Hartland Angus started when our first registered Angus bull came on the place in 1951. We’ve had at least one registered Angus bull ever since. After Assman Land & Cattle had the dispersion sale in 2009, we bought some registered cows from Stan Caldwell’s dispersion sale in 2001, expanding our program, I started registering some calves from that herd. While we had bought registered cows on and off through the years, this was the first we had registered ourselves. I reasoned, since Assman Land & Cattle had dispersed it would be fun and an opportune time to raise some registered bulls. Plus we had already bought Assman Land & Cattle’s top 205 weaning weight bulls in 2008 and 2009 using these for clean up bulls. Our focus is on, docility, reproduction, calving ease and 205 weights, as we are cow-calf producers ourselves. Our goal is to improve ribeye, marbling, and beef dollars for the finisher, with out sacrificing reproduction. This year we bought an interest in the bull Western Icon HiCaliber, thinking he will be a top AI sire. Richard Hartland 605-842-5148

We offer more than 52 combined years of experience in the insurance business and our dedicated advisors are available to serve you, and will meet you when it fits your schedule.
