Our new magazine is truly a worthwhile venture. We have gained information and feedback from folks throughout the US and Canada. We’ve had a wonderful welcome from people who enjoy the Park Model lifestyle. Parks and manufacturers have let us know they’re happy to have a specific place to let you know about them. Your support and encouragement inspires us. We welcome more communication from you. We need: Pictures of you with your park model. Letters to the Editor We love it! Thanks for a magazine that speaks to us. We traveled for years in an RV and decided to put down roots in areas close to our kids. We have a Park Model in Georgia and one in Vermont. This is ideal for us. The Park Models are very cost effective and we have our own space when we spend time with our family. Our grandchildren claimed the loft and we let them redecorate “their” space. How about an article about folks like us – who own more than one Park Model? Carlie and Hank M., Vermont and Georgia Park Models are wonderful vacation choices. I have rented Park Models in five
states and plan to try three more in 2007. The Park Models are much nicer than staying in a hotel and cost a lot less. I have my home base to learn more about an area and can relax. I also like the activities in the parks. I’m single and this is a nice way to meet friendly people from all over the US and Canada. I’ve made terrific new friends every place I’ve stayed. Thanks for the cool magazine.
share! Emily A., Arizona

Located in the heart of the 383,000 acre Ocala National Forest and on the shores of the pristine Little Lake Kerr, Elite Resorts at Salt Springs is “Beautifully Natural and Naturally Beautiful!” I recommend that you check their web site at www.eliteresorts.com. The virtual tour is very inviting. The pool with decks, umbrellas and lounge chairs looks particularly relaxing and shows the adjacent lake. The resort includes 70 deeded lots for Park Models. Elite Resorts at Salt Springs offers the stunning scenery, small town charm and excellent climate of North Central Florida. For those of us who look for quiet places away from large tourist centers, Salt Springs is an ideal choice. This lovely resort is nestled amidst 100 year old oak trees covered in Spanish moss. In a review on www.rvparkresorts.com, a fellow traveler awarded 10/10 points and commented, “This park has everything you would ever need. Two pools, one for kids and one for adults. Park has a post office, produce stand, boat dock, two restaurants, hot tub, and lots of rooms to use.” The resort has a large clubhouse with commercial kitchen. A view of the clubhouse is also on the virtual tour and shows the wood paneled walls and ceiling and a large stone fireplace that dominates one end of the clubhouse. The pools include a family pool, adult seasonal heated pool and spa. Other activities on the site are tennis, horseshoe pitch, volleyball, basketball, www.ParkModelLiving.com

A few months ago I met with a group of Internet professionals at a conference in San Diego. We all carried laptops with wireless connections to the hotel's access point. On the second day of the conference, one of the attendees presented a paper with current login and password data from a dozen of us. Needless to say, our eyes were opened to our security risk. The presenter used a "sniffer" program that anyone can download to spy on the Internet traffic floating around in the air. Fortunately, he was nice enough to tell us that we were caught with our virtual pants down.

When you use a laptop in public areas there are the "shoulder surfers" to watch out for. Just like entering your PIN code at an ATM, you need to be alert. Anyone could glance over your shoulder while you hunt and peck in the airport, coffee shop or RV Park. I always use two fingers when I enter my PIN or password ... one presses the correct key and other is a decoy. Even if someone watched from across the street with binoculars, it is almost impossible to steal a password with that sort of careful disguise. And beware of the Evil Twin! In this security risk, a hacker takes the true login page for a WIFI hotspot and creates its evil twin which is a bogus copy. Aunty Spam's Net Patrol warns about this particular security problem. Read this helpful article to learn how to protect you from this type of attack: http://www.auntyspam.com/wifi-hotspot-evil-twinsmimic-wi-fi-hotspots-and-stealyour-data. Secure Your Wireless HOME Network Do you have a wireless laptop
and router at home? You may be providing free Internet access to your neighbors, or opening your system to drive-by hackers. For your protection, it’s critical that you activate at least one of your router’s security features. One option is to set up a WEP key. Go into the setup functions of your router and create a key. The directions for this are found in the manual for your specific device. Each manufacturer has a different way to accomplish this. Once the key is set your wireless router will be secure (unless you provide this key to other people of course). Be aware though that encryption will slow down the flow of data. The other option is less secure as the data is not encrypted, but it will prevent anyone from sharing your internet connection or breaking into your router. You can set up your router to do MAC address authentication. With this method, you enter into your router, the MAC address of each of your wireless devices. Because every network or wireless device has a unique MAC address, this tells the router the only MAC addresses that have permission to use the router. Refer to the documenta-
tion for your device to locate this number. We all know it’s important to protect our personal information. You may keep your irreplaceable documents in a fireproof safe or bank. Be just as vigilant about information you share electronically so that snoopers and sniffers keep away from your computer. - Dr. C

urn on your imagination. Now climb to the sun-warmed roof of your Park Model and grab the secure handrails. Let yourself fly and swoop out onto a sliding board – that spills you joyfully into the refreshing chill of a lake. What’s that? Your Park Model doesn’t sit on the water and there’s no sliding board? When you own a custom double-decker FloLodgeTM from Flat Creek Lodges it’s easy to play in the water because these delightful homes are designed for the water. They can be purchased with top deck, handrails, and sliding board. Ready, set, splash! This new double-decker was introduced in December 2006 and is available now. The new model adds a two-story deck to the end of a traditional FloLodgeTM , in essence doubling its outdoor lounging capacity. It

According to Jason Bramblett, of the Bramblett Group, “Most of the FloLodgeTM units are shipped to marinas to be used as overnight accommodations or as water condominium investment properties. You can’t forget the investment opportunity with these units. Some marinas will manage the rentals for individual investors.” Many of these floating treasures have been placed in Tennessee, along the eastern seaboard and as far north as Pennsylvania. They are in campgrounds or rest at the end of the dock on private lakefront property. Purchasing Flat Creek Lodges’ models allows owners to upgrade campgrounds and marinas, while gaining additional revenue. Flat Creek Lodges is located in Haleyville, Ala., about two hours north of Birmingham. The manufacturing facility is 30,000 square feet and sales representatives for the company work on site. Flat Creek Lodges sells through dealers although they will work directly with customers who do not have an affiliated dealer nearby. With the work and energy from 20 employees, Flat Creek Lodges manufactures two distinct product lines – Park Models and FloLodgesTM. The company recently introduced customization options for its Park Model homes and FloLodgesTM for commercial and private buyers. These options provide customers with personalized features to fit their unique purposes – from campground and marina owners who invest in the units as revenue generators, to individuals who purchase for recreational getaways. You can customize your purchase to suit your personal www.ParkModelLiving.com
taste. Flat Creek Lodge designs the units with space and functionality as the number one concern. From basic and simple to luxurious and elegant, they create units to your specifications. Many of the newly featured options are representative of those found in fine homebuilding. Interiors now include a choice of paneling options or finished drywall painted to any Sherwin Williams color. There are cabinets with flat, beaded or raised panels in a variety of woods and finishes. Carpeting includes plush or berber. The plantation shutters may be stained or white. Countertops are now available in laminate and solid surface finishes. Vinyl insulated windows are standard equipment. Exteriors now include real half log siding and lap cedar with Sherwin Williams exterior stain for protection against harmful UV rays. Vinyl siding is available in five color options. An LP siding option has a 30 year warranty and five color choices. Metal roofs are sold in seven colors and the slatted window shutters are available in six colors. Composite decking options provide a lasting finish that will not fade or rot like traditional wood decks. The company website is colorful and fun. In the “Build Your Own Lodge” area there are virtual rooms that you decorate and redecorate with a click. Playing with the feature reminds me of dressing paper dolls when I could easily remove a dress and shoes and immediately transfer to a different look. I could create lots of views with no paint or stepladder required. Mike Burleson has served as general manager of Flat Creek Lodges since the company’s inception. He says, “Everyone has his or her own idea of what the camping experience should be. These expanded options enable customers to better relate their personal vision of camping to the www.ParkModelLiving.com

share this guide. Included in this helpful tool are: how to select a dealership, selecting a Park Model, and six questions to ask now to ensure good service after the sale. All the information is detailed and very focused. The folks at Pleasant Acres have quite a depth to the section about selecting Park Models. This includes some details that customers might not have included in their search. What exterior and interior appearance would you like? How many people can it sleep? Insulation is important for sound and heating considerations. This includes walls, ceilings and floors. What type of roof do you want? Cabinet doors are available in quite a variety of materials and colors. You also want to consider furnace and air conditioner capacity and the type of water heater. What, exactly, is included in the price of your Park Model? At Pleasant Acres the price includes: a site inspection, site modifications, preparation and testing, delivery and set up, and a careful walk through that demonstrates how things work. They also give each customer three free winterizations. A spring inspection and de-winterization is performed for two years after purchase. The chart with this section lists each service included with your purchase price at Pleasant Acres and gives you a chart to compare service options. What should you look for in good service after the sale? Some of areas suggested include information about the training level for technicians, available parts, and whether your dealer is seasonal or open year round. The financing section offers a wealth of information about purchasing. For example, it is a requirement that you pay sales tax on a Park Model, regardless of where it is purchased. Pleasant Acres offers information about how to clean the exterior and interior of your wonderful new home. One of their suggestions, of course, is to put a Pleasant Acres magnet on the fridge so that you can contact them to provide on-going customer service.
We met Robert Denman at the RVIA show in Kentucky. He shared information about Pleasant Acres Trailer Sales. Three generations of the Denham family have been involved in the business. According to Robert, “Our business is built on a tradition of honesty, integrity, and quality. “ When Elmer T. Denman first began selling trailers, he would often stop the work he was doing around the farm, tie his team of horses to a post, and go help his customers. This dealership has grown into the largest Park Model dealership in the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania area, and you may still see a member of the Denman family come by with a team of horses. The site includes an older, amusing, photo of Elmer Denman moving a trailer through the snow with Jack and Jill, a team of Belgian draft horses. Customer satisfaction is the benchmark for this company. Robert tells us, “Everyone at Pleasant Acres wants your entire Park Model experience to be as enjoyable as possible, from shopping, to the sale, to deliver, to quality service for years to come.” The folks at Pleasant Acres believe that the process of shopping for a Park Model can be a lot of fun. However, it can also be a very confusing process. There are dozens of models to choose from. The shopping process can become very confusing and overwhelming as people get conflicting information from different dealers. The staff at Pleasant Acres hears questions like, "This is all so confusing, how can I tell which deal is my best deal." Or, "How can I know I am going to get good service after the sale." This dealership assembled tools to help customers through the shopping process. A thorough and easy to read 17 page guide is available through the website www.pleasantacres.com.
