“My major upcoming project is going to be my mixtape titled “Mack & Attack”. Pretty much, the title (as well as the tracks) show the two sides of Mike Gip: the chill, cool, calm, and collective “Mack” side, and the wild “Attack” side.” _

NEW JERSEY... Growing up in New Jersey was an experience. Growing up in Long Branch (small city on the Jersey Shore) was crazy. In my part of town, it’s nothing but violence so that’s something I had adapt in order grow up. On the other hand, if you were to go to the beach, you’d think Long Branch. As a whole, it was nothing but a beachfront filled with fun & tranquility. I got into music because that’s what I was raised around. My grandmother had 14 kids (7 boys/7 girls). About 5 of my uncles were musically inclined. I looked up to my uncle Randy who was a MC/BBoy, and a DJ as well. Plus I wanted to take over my city (musically) from a corny DJ who used to spin at parties at a local community center. Before ever touching a turntable, I felt I was better than him. Once I got comfortable performing in front of others, I eventually took Long Branch over, then my region of Central Jersey. After learning BPMs and all that other stuff, that’s when I got into producing.

EXPERIENCE... I’m always learning new things everyday. Literally, every night before I take my naps (since I don’t sleep), I produce an instrumental from scratch. One day I’ll do r&b, another day, I’ll do hip hop. It really depends on my mood. Starting off as a Jersey Club producer really gave me the keys to the gates of production, because it’s a complexed, versatile genre which led me to get a feel for more than just Jersey Club itself. Especially because it’s an offshoot of Hip Hop, Urban House, and even sometimes R&B. As an artist, I try to be as versatile as possible, writing to different beats whenever I get the chance. Again it all depends on my mood. I’ve had a few people tell me, “Gip they’re not gonna like you as an artist just yet, because you came out as a DJ. Your stuff is nice though, so they’re going to have to respect it.” I’ve been told some rappers feel I’m going to take their shine, but I’m not worried about that. I’m in my lane and they’re in their lane. Just different speeds I guess...

follow me @GoMikeGip 10

MULTIHATS... As an artist & producer & DJ, is it hard to wear several hats? It’s actually really easy being all three, it just all boils down to how well I can manage my time. Days I don’t have gigs to spin at, I spend in the studio or writing. Days I’m not in the studio, I spend writing or producing. When I’m on the go for example if I’m in a car while my boy is driving, I’ll write. So it all balances out. It sounds funny, but I can be walking up the street and a line or melody can pop up in my head & I’ll quickly go to my notes in my phone and jot it down before I forget. I wake up thinking about music and go to sleep thinking about it. HIGHLIGHTS... My biggest highlights so far, would have to be getting recognized internationally as a producer/DJ from various urban EDM labels/listeners (Pelican Fly, Mad Decent, Fools Gold, etc.). My soundcloud following is crazy (not that that’s a highlight, but starting out doing music as a hobby and then it leading to people

soundcloud/MikeGipOfficial

actually supporting is a good feeling). A remix I produced of Young Dro’s “FDB” was aired on Hot 97 in NYC. To me, just having a strong fan base/support system is my biggest highlight. People are really liking my artist side as well, which allows me to keep striving to add more highlights to the list. SOUNDCLOUD... I love Soundcloud. It’s an easy way to keep track of my stats as far as plays, downloads, followers, etc. I feel it’s the most user friendly site for my supporters to listen to. MySpace used to be the “goto” site, but you see where that ended up. Now a days, it’s either Soundcloud or YouTube. CHALLENGE... My biggest challenge would have to be adding another lane (or in your words, “hat”). I’ve seen some DJs/Producers who tried to do the same thing and immediately gotten gonged. I didn’t want that to happen, but music and life is all about taking risks. It’s a game of chance. I took my chance and people are still rocking with me. I try to reach out to many audiences through my music. I’m a die hard 90s baby who grew up on 2Pac, Biggie, Wu Tang Clan, LOX, Dipset, etc so if I was thrown a 90s NY/NJ Hip Hop beat, I’d immediately go off on it with excitement. Although I’m a huge 90s Hip Hop fan, I’m still influenced by artists like those from A$AP Mob, artists like Meek Mill, Drake, even Juicy J. I see myself as a product of those artists mixed with 2 Live Crew (as funny as it sounds). Simply put, I try to have fun with my music, but I love sending out songs with a message. F WIT US... “F With Us” happens to be a song with a message. When I was producing the beat for the single, I wanted to incorporate the 90s boom bap mixed with present day producing patterns with bright piano keys. I don’t know,

I was pretty much just experimenting. Once the chorus came in, I just thought of something that followed the keys. First thing that popped into my mind was “They can’t F With Us”. So I wrote the hook, with my verses to match the topic. Pretty much stating that the opposition and negative feedback is irrelevant because as an up and coming artist, I’ve had to realize that not everyone is going to “F” with you. PROJECTS... My major upcoming project is going to be my mixtape titled “Mack & Attack”. Pretty much, the title (as well as the tracks) show the two sides of Mike Gip: the chill, cool, calm, and collective “Mack” side, and the wild “Attack” side. I’m also working with an singer (Nae Monae) who is also up and coming & learning the music game. I produced and cowrote her first single “Pretty Girls Smoke Too” that had crazy feedback in the first few days. So yeah, I’m working! DREAM... I’ve had many dreams. My first dream was making it in the NBA, because basketball was my first love. Turns out, I was destined for music. Especially having my right hand man, Fiinesse (artist/producer/DJ from Central NJ) push me to really stay focused. My close circle makes sure we stay on the right track to make these dreams come true. I plan to get signed to an indie label in the meantime to learn more about the music games hands on, as opposed to reading articles and books on the business. We’ll see where that takes my career. As a man, I just want Mike Gip to not be known as another statistic. Growing up around drugs and violence only leads young black males into two places; a prison or a cemetery. I basically found my own route and chose music to be my way out of a negative environment. I’ve already had near death experiences, also near prison experiences, so now I’ve deci-

-ded it’s time to get on the positive track while I still have a chance. Hopefully it will lead other black males to also stay on a positive tip although now a days being tough is being cool, I guess. MIKE GIP.... I honestly can’t even be defined in three words. Pretty much, I’m the most cool, chill person you’d know, then I’d be the biggest hot head on the planet. I’m a straight up outlaw (Baby 2Pac) where I don’t croak under pressure whether it’s with government officials or dudes on the street. Pretty much, I’m a rebellious, but chill, stubborn motherf*#ker. I’m convinced I’m bipolar. My CC on a personal basis would have to be my little brother (not really but I’ve watched him grow up and showed him a few ins and outs in the music life as well as the street life) Kaylib. He’s a 14 year old who also rhymes (actually dope and has a wide vocabulary). He has braids like me, went through a lot with his father like me, even has girl problems like I used to when I was his age. We can go to each other for anything. He comes to me for advice, I go to him to vent. HIP HOP... Hip Hop has always been violent. Real Hip Hop is all about life experiences and SOME of us artists can actually confirm the hardships of growing up in urban areas (most just lie lie lie it’s annoying). The kids who are really turning up as far as violence in Hip Hop is GBE. You can’t blame them though, they’re rapping about what they’ve been through and what they’ve seen growing up. Their fan base is crazily growing for either two reasons: people can relate, or they simply want to be like them. If you can relate, that’s cool. But a lot of people are getting themselves into things they aren’t really built for by listening to them.

“I try to reach out to many audiences through my music. I’m a die hard 90s baby who grew up on 2Pac, Biggie, Wu Tang Clan, LOX, Dipset, etc”

“I’ve performed with Maino, Red Cafe, Cassidy, Action Bronson just to name a few.”

MERO... I wouldn’t say that there is a “NEW” Montana Mero. What I will say is, now people can get to see a side of me that they’ve never gotten the chance to see before. They might even hear me talk about topics I never talked about before. But now that I’m solo I have complete creative control over my project and it feels great! Since 04’ I was known as “Montana” from The iLLiance but I think the change to “MERO” represents the growth and progression of my career. I’m about to take it to the next level with my new records as I expand my horizons and broaden my spectrum on music. THE ILLIANCE... I don’t know, that’s a crazy question but as of right now its looks like its definitely over for The iLLiance as my solo career is really starting to take off. We were a group during 10 years together, ever since we were kids you know! I will always have the utmost respect for Sin, but I just had to do me, you feel me? EXPERIENCE... Well this is my first time ever being solo, but I am definitely an experienced artist. What I bring to the industry is the complete package. See, a lot of artists have hot beats, but have mediocre lyrics or have great hooks with bad verses. Others have good verses with bad hooks and so on, you catch my drift? I feel there

aren’t too many artists out there that have it all and I think I’m definitely one of them. I have great lyrics, great hooks, and great beats, and I believe you need all of those elements in order to make a great song in my opinion. No disrespect, but I think that’s what sets me apart from most artists today. STUDIO... I have many different studios that I work out of. In the Bronx, Queens, a couple in Manhattan and a handful on Long Island. Pretty much whatever Buro I am in I am able to record. Currently I don’t own one at the moment but I am actually in the process of building one. HIGHLIGHTS... Oh man, I feel like my career hasn’t even started yet LOL. I’ve performed with Maino, Red Cafe, Cassidy, Action Bronson just to name a few. Had a meeting with Roc La Familia. But I want to say performing at Virginia Tech was my favorite musical experience so far. Performing in front of 5,000+ fans is such an amazing feeling. It’s actually indescribable. PAID MEN... is doing very well! People really like it. I’ve been receiving a lot of good feedback on it. It already has thousands of views and over a thousand likes. Shout out to Jon Vulpine(www. jonvulpine.com) who shot and edited the video.

“Me surviving, being shot 3 times. I basically got into a scuffle with one of my friends at the time. And later on, he returned in his own way and shot me. It made me realize the value of life...” “Who Is Alibo”...

The concept came from my friend Cash who is like a brother. Right now, he is serving life in prison. But we were on the road in ATL listening to a few of my songs and he said it’s time people know you as artist and not just a street person so tell them who is alibo.

YOUR SOUND...

Real, Unique, Exciting.

BANK MONEY ENT...

Bank Money is actually my big brother Stunna Moe’s Label. We have been grinding for years. Also PTB Productions is a label behind me to we are like two in the same. We have a big camp with a lot of talent and up coming projects to put out.

LOCAL SCENE...

Really the Bay Area,Ca has its own unique sound that influences a lot of artists. We have our own style, way of life, and lingo so we stand out. The whole bay has plenty of talent and legends such E-40, Too short, etc. so it’s a very competitive market for the independent hustle.

I DON’T GIVE A FUCK...

This songs is most def one of my favorite and I receive a lot of positive feedbacks on it from the local scene. So we are definitely in the process of shooting a video and also dropping a remix with more of the reputable artists from the Bay area.

INSPIRATION...

All my lyrics is real life, everyday situations that I encounter. 100% from me, just being me. No sugar coating and no censorship.

FIRST KRUSH...

Born and raised in Oakland,California. Grew up on 14th Chestnut where I saw a lot at a young age. I come from a big fam of 8, 5 sis and 3 bro me not included. I lost my oldest brother Robert Earl cotton sr. when I was 11years, so I took to the streets fast and started doing everything my mama dreaded me doing, being shot 3 times was a wake up call for me. I now have 7 kids that keep me motivated, I thank god everyday for another day. My First Krush for sure was 97-98 when DR. DRE dropped the Chronic album. My fav song was DRE DAY, real gangsta! I watched the video a million times lol. The craziest part is how they where chasing dude around through out the whole video. The party scene in the wear house was dope, it was at capacity everybody dancing with there fitted hats and button ups on. Pure CLASSIC! But my all Time favorite is SNOOP DOGG “Gin & Juice”. The video reminded me so much of my era growing up around my big brother and his homeboys before he passed. From the bad kids jumping on the couch which was me lol to snoop riding on the handle bars on the bike thru the hood .. When I saw this video, I knew I had to be apart of hip hop!

KRAZY STORY...

Me surviving, being shot 3 times. I basically got into a scuffle with one of my friends at the time. And later on, he returned in his own way and shot me. It made me realize the value of life, and put me back into focus and helped me realize I cant trust everyone that smiles in my face.

2014...

Late march (CHOPPAZ+COOKIES&CAKE) Alibo & L’s./ Early MAY (SUMTHIN 4 THA BITCHES ) Alibo & JAS/ MID SEPTEMBER (YEAR OF THE MOBB) Jay Nightrydah Alibo, JAS, ELSE, CG./ DECEMBER - STUNNA MOE PRESENT (Black Gate PROJECT) compilation Ronald Mack, JAS, CG, SHADY NAT, Alibo, Philty Rich and more...

“Believe in yourself and follow your Heart and never give up but also make sure you get that education. That can never be taken away.” MY CITY...

I was Baton Rouge Lousiana. The local scene is not very big in my area here on the N side. Not a lot of people represent the N side of town. There is always something to do in my city. There’s never a dull moment! That’s a cool place to live but the black point is the police presence sometimes is overwhelming when it comes to my people being targeted.

FIRST TIME...

I got into music when I was very young. I was in the church choir as a child and I started rapping soon after. I discovered my talent at the age of 13- 14. I noticed people around me started to listen to me and say I was good. They wanted to hear my rap so I started working harder to get even better.

ARTIST NAME...

Brown is my name. I didn’t want any gimmicks. I wanted to be original so I used my own name T. Brown.

HIGHLIGHTS...

One of my biggest highlights is Raising my son Deuntae. Getting signed to Crowd Control Entertainment and preparing to release my first mixtape project 75N.

MIXTAPE...

The concept behind this mixtape is to introduce myself to the world and give you a look inside my life and how we do things on the N side. People always screaming S side, E side W side but never the N side. I represent the N side but S/O to all sides.

LEADING SINGLE...

The main leading singles are “Im hot”, “Southern Sensation” and “Never thought I could”. The whole mixtape is banging though!

VIDEOS MARKET...

I think it is definitely one of the top ways. People love visuals and want to see your swag but there are also multiple other outlets out there. We are currently working on releasing an official video for “Southern Sensation” and also discussing reality TV opportunities. Stay Tuned.

VIOLENCE IN HIP HOP....

There’s so many of us trying to do the same thing so we often disrespect our competition and that usually leads to violence. Stop the violence!

MESSAGE...

My message is to follow your dreams even when people around you shoot that dream down. Believe in yourself and follow your Heart and never give up but also make sure you get that education.

FUTURE...

I imagine myself still relevant in the industry and still making contributions to the art of Hip-hop not necessarily as a rapper but a mentor to young up and coming artist passionate about their craft.

DREAMS...

I put my life into my art when I write and perform. I want you to take a ride in to my life and my day to day.

KRAZY STORY...

It has been when I was like nine years old. My dad took me to a concert in Baton Rouge and about half way through, a thunderstorm and very high winds hit people. We were running and screaming looking for shelter when my father and I found shelter, there was blood on his shirt and we didn’t realize it was coming from my head. I didn’t even feel it until I realized it was me.. still got the scar today, crazy.

Can you present your EP « Body Say No, Heat Say Yes » in three words! Fun, catchy, and uplifting – just listen and you’ll find out :) How did you hook up with « Team CashCash »? I ran into them in NYC right after I graduated. Soon after ; we got together and started writing. Has the Australian Tour been your biggest Highlight so far? Touring in Australia was definitely amazing. Being able to share my music and do what I love has really been the biggest highlight of my career. How did the Australian fans welcome you? I think, in the beginning, they didn’t know what to expect, but everyone was really so supportive and welcoming. As a New York Native, do you think your city gives a lot of opportunities for independant artists who want to shine? Definitely. NYC has so many venues for musicians to share their music. Whats even better is that NYC also has tons of people who want to listen. What do you love the most about your city? I love that it feels like it’s own country. There really is no where else in the world like it. What do you hate... That it doesnt have a beach. Have you collaborated with artists beyond the borders so far? No I haven’t but I definitely would like to! What’s the main message behind the single « Let’s Go »? The message behind “let’s go” is simple. It’s a song about unity and bringing everyone together. Its purpose is to spread the message that even what seems impossible is possible. The video went viral very fast ! Do you think Youtube is the best way to promote your music today? Definitely. I love youtube. Really it’s all of social media that makes promoting music easier. 2014... what are you cooking for your fans? Well I just started the first of many radio tours. Currently I am in Florida. I am also excited to announce that my music video for Body Say No, Heart Say Yes should be out sooner then later. No date set though. Any particular messages for our readers? Just thank you for taking the time to read this interview! And i hope you enjoy my music as much as i love writing it :) How do you see yourself ten years from now... Singing in space!

France... How can you describe it? Wine – There’s no place like France where you can drink such delicious wines and get drunk with! Poetry – Comes right after wine, its logical consequence! Charming – because “wine” + “poetry” definitely make a frenchie charming! You were born in Italy... Are you keeping strong links with your native country? Actually, I was born in France but raised in Italy. I am truly thankfull to France, as I wouldn’t be who I am today without what this country allowed me to build. But Italy is my heart. It’s always very difficult for me to express how much Italy means to me... it’s part of my childhood, I somehow spent the most beautiful years of my life there. This is why Italy is special to me. How does it impact on your music? When I write a song, I just try to be myself, to be as much “organic” as I can, as life shapes us. By this, I mean that I don’t feeling like playing somebody’s else role, I can only talk about what I’ve experienced. So having grown up in different countries has obviously impacted on my music, on the way I deal with life in general. I think it’s quite usual for any multicultural person. Sometimes, it can be conflictual, especially in the making of music. How did you hook up with Icon Records France? Few years ago, some friends of mine told me about a singing contest organized in Paris. I really had no idea to what I was really getting into! When I auditioned in front of the jury, they somehow felt I had something different to say, to express. Indeed, they were looking to set up a band whereas, I already had a few demos on my own... One of the members, Alexander Von Perl, came then backstage to tell me he might have something to propose me. Then he introduced me to Frédéric Messel who is Icon Records’ CEO. Two weeks later I was signed, even though I still couldn’t believe it! What is the concept behind your song “Crazy”? After promoting my french debut album (“Kairos”, which was recently certified Platinum in Europe), I felt the need to do something radically different. Its making had been so formated, imposed to me, I felt like being someone else at some point. Not that I regret what I wrote or said in these songs I wrote for “Kairos”, but I simply felt the need to explose and let it go.

This is how “Crazy” popped up from me, litteraly! It sounded like a relieve to me, and led me to write my second album, “Nightlife”, which is a journey into the night, exploring all the feelings one’s can experience at night, from a crazy party to an extreme loneliness. Crazy is a dancefloor tribute and anthem. It talks about how important it is also to let your body go to the rythm of the music. How this explosion, craziness can simply save you. You are polyglot... So geographically, what is your target? Ahah you think so? Thanks! I come from a large family who settled in France, Italy and Australia, and I was lucky enough to grow up in different countries. To me, it’s always been truly important to get to know all these languages as well as possible. It’s also a matter of respect towards my fans in these countries. I daily receive dozens of messages from all around the world, and being able to communicate, exchange with them directly is a true blessing for me, especially when they share with me a piece of their life, stories or also when they tell me how impactful some of my songs have been for them. I feel so lucky to have their support, they have been supporting me since the very begining and I will never be able to thank them enough. How did the fans welcome your single “Crazy”? Apparently very good, as the single immediately reached #8 on the French iTunes Pop Charts. It is still a surprise for me to witness such things. People who really follow me know that I am a very discrete person, and I am not dying for fame or exposure. So it is really incredible for me to see that so many people are touched by my music. Everytime sounds like my first time to me, and this feeling will live long. What are your projects for 2014? We still have a few singles to promote, still taken from my latest album “Nightlife”. The newly one released is “Ecstasy”, which is creating an unexpected controversy in Europe due to its lyrics (European Committee for the fight against illict drugs has misunderstood their meaning and think I am inciting people to get into it). Some remixes are coming, I was lucky enough to work with talented people such as Bebo Le Vrai, who has remixed many artists (Betty Who...), and also New Puzzle, Skarface, People Theatre... Lots of surprises too!

“Projects for 2014... The release of my third album: BENO KUISA. I also will produce the first SYLAH-ADA(my daughter) Single. I plan to develop the KONGO KULTURE project and will tour in AFRICA.” Paris... How can you describe this area in three words for our readers? Noisy (cars, people...), Shiny (at night with all the lights), Stressful.

Who is the team behind your movement? Nym (Ndako ya mampila), The label Roots Injection. Tha Septemba Team (Management), Mazza TV (Partner), Kongo Kulture (Partner).

How is the Reggae music industry other there? There is a development of Reggae music in france but black artists are still struggling. We see more white groups than black people in this industry. Maybe because the original message has been replaced by the “Peace and Love” one. At the same time, we can notice that black people start to do their own things. Because we are not represented in the medias., They only talk about Jamaicans.

Hooking up with so many professional gave you the chance to develop an amazing network no? Did those connects help you a lot in your career? Yes..because, i consider that i’m still learning so it helps me a lot. I still make mistakes but, obviously it’s easier after all those years of experience.

How did you get into music? I started to DJ in the sound system at the end of the 90’s and after a decade of many collaborations, i decided to focus on my own projects. Even if a single ”AAOOOH” has been released in 2001, it was only in 2008 that I released my first street album”SOUNDSISTACLA” and 3 years later, in 2011, my second album ”FLEURSAUVAGE”***was out. I produced it all. I’m an indépedant artist. In 2012, an American Reggae label based in NEW-YORK: ROOTS INJECTION RECORDS contacted me and we started to collaborate. 2 vynils were released ”COME”&”REMEMBER” mixed by RAS MUFFET (BRISTOL). Half of my new album “BENO KUISA” has been remixed by RAS MUFFET from the ROOTS INJECTION RECORDS. Do you often travel to Africa? To Brazzaville? Unfortunately, I don’t. I was born in Brazzaville, but since i’ve been in France, for many reasons, i never went back to my country. I feel so sad! I prepare myself to go there because, I feel ready now. It’s important, and i need it! How is your fanbase over there? I played in senegal, (2012), for the St- louis international jazz festival. It was tough, very interesting. I felt at HOME. Today, i can’t talk about a fanbase but i have a lot of connections over there. I want to especially BigUp GENERAL KHEUCH & PATRICIA NDAYE(& HER DAUGHTER MAKEDA). I have some contacts in different countries

Tell us the things you love about Paris... Chateau-Rouge(African,and especially Congolese market). Lights at night. Things you hate about it... Chateau- Rouge... because of the rubbish we can find there: bleaching cream, fake hair...and the most important, is to see all the black people selling their stuff in the street while the chinese and indian people own shops and sell african food. It’s so sad, because the police strictly forbid this street business. The subway. Pollution So Far, What ‘s your 3 biggest Highlights? The first time i sang in a sound system...in 1996. The first time i wrote and composed the music for the lauching of a big radio in France called LE MOUV. At the end of the 90’s. When i sang at the St louis international jazz festival in 2012. If you could be in the studio working on music and have anyone from your country in your corner, who would you have in your team and why them? Rido Bayonne, Nzongo Soul, So Kalmery, Fredy Massamba, Olivier Tshimanga, just because they are great musicians/ artists and I respect them a lot! I’ve already collaborated with Rido BAYONNE, on “WOMAN”which is on the album FLEUR SAUVAGE (2011) and with OLIVIER TSHIMANGA who played guitar on my new album BENO KUISA who will be avalaible soon in february or march. “If listeners could feel some emotions from my music, not only moving their necks, which is already cool, but feeling sadness, joy or anything listening to my music, i’d be really really happy.”

France... How can you describe this country in three words for our readers? Strikes, because France is a country always on rebellion, we are always fed up with everything, which feds me up. Food, because we have the best food in the world. Paris, because i live here and i love this city. How is the music industry other there? There are two parts in the french music industry. The old one, with a lot of boring “variété” artists who live in the past and make bullshit. And the emergent one, the “soundcloud” generation, from electro to hiphop, there are a lot of new producers, singers or rappers who are really talented like Stwo, Phazz, Evil Needle, Grems… and many more. What is the french touch? For me, the french touch is an old stuff. It was the Daft Punk, Cassius and co’, it was a House Music thing. Today, music seems a lot more uni-

-versal, everybody can make music and get inspired by artists from everywhere. In 2014, producers from Paris can have the same style as Californian producers, musical frontiers don’t exist anymore. How did you choose your artist name? I wanted a pretty neutral name, cause i’m in different “genres” of music, and i didn’t want a name which could be linked to a precise type of music. Then, for the little story, the name Akeda comes from a classic manga i used to read, “AKIRA”. Akeda is the mix of two important characters of this manga, Akira and Kaneda. You really have your own musical identity! Thank you, i think it’s really important to have his own touch today, because there are a lot of producers who make pretty similar tracks. Having a proper identity in this game is really important, and i’m happy when people recognize my tracks among others.

Follow me @IamAkeda

What setup production do you use?My setup is simple and classic, i use a Macbook Pro with Ableton Live 9, i have two controllers, a MPD18 and a little MPD8,and i also have a Microkorg. I try to keep a simple and light setup to stay focused on the essential, making music. Tell us the story behind the “Not a Bad Day” visual? This video is simply a work i’ve found on youtube when i was making this track, it appears to me to match perfectly with the ambiance of the track so i used it as a music video. But in 2014 i will try to do real videos for my projects, i just need to find the right guys to work with. What are your projects for this year? I’m gonna be very busy in 2014. I started to work with my new label Cosmonostro, which is a sort of french Soulection, many talented people in here. I’ll try to release an EP first half of the year on this label.

Give us a little history about yourself. Where are you from and what was your life and your grind before 2013? Well here it is my name is Boome from Boome & The Skywalkers. I’m from Marietta, Ga I currently reside in Dallas, Tx and travel any and everywhere this beautiful music takes me. Before my huge music year in 2013 I was actually building and perfecting my sound and touring all over the states on a smaller scale. Space Jamz Vol.2 is your new baby! Use 3 words to describe the new album? Powerful, Inspiring, Futuristic. When did you fall in love with astronomy and everything around space? To be perfectly honest if I tried to name all the planets I would probably miss a couple. The reason Im so drawn to space and astronomy is the endless possibilities. I have so much appreciation that us as human beings had the intelligence and will power to travel over 200 thousand miles outside the earth. To me that’s the definition of anything is possible, when I look at my dreams and goals I take on the same attitude no matter how far the distance its just a number. Why did you choose “Ride My Bike to The Moon” as your first lead single? What’s funny about that is “Ride My Bike to The Moon” was actually the last song I recorded for this album. My manager (Louie Maldonado) and I were actually perfectly happy with the whole album before ride my bike. 2 days before the album was finalized, I was watching the movie E.T. with my son and for those familiar with the film, the little boy actually rides his bike levitating with the moon as the backdrop. So Steven Spielberg and Melissa Mathison, thank you for the inspiration. The feedback for this record has been crazy! I am definitely glad it made the album. Can we expect a video for that new single? Definitely! This record is so important to me and motivational for a lot of Skywalkers, I want to give it the right vision. I wrote the treatment for the video so it’s fully my vision, stay tuned is gonna be an epic film. I promise!

To me that’s the definition of anything is possible, when I look at my dreams and goals I take on the same attitude no matter how far the distance its just a number.” #EPIC....is the word we can use to define your 2013 Grind! Tours with major artists, meeting thousands of fans, radio interviews etc...How did you hook up with Juicy J’s Team? Thank you. It’s just hard work paying off. God only helps you if you bust your ass, and if things are not working out you make them work out. Hooking up with Juicy’s Team was just the result of everything we did early in the year, as you know, we toured with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on The “Rock The Bells Tour”, opened for Macklemore, J.Cole, Paul Wall, Big Krit, etc...the list goes on. The production company that put Rock The Bells together also put Juicy’s “Stay Trippy Tour” together, so they reached out to us and the rest is history. Even though, we just wrapped up the tour we’re still working with Juicy’s camp, but I wont leak anything right now. What is the craziest thing you have lived during this tour? Definitely a lot of good memories! I was asked to sign my 1st pair of panties, Lol. Saw girls fight over my shirt when I threw it into the crowd. We drove thru an ice storm, played basketball backstage, cursed out a sucky sound guy. We participated in the Skywalker Olympics where I beat my manager Louie in every sporting event known to man, He’s gonna hate me for that one! Trust me lots of randomness when you’re on The “Stay Trippy Tour”. We noticed you only got two features on your album. Why this choice? I feel like features should be a natural collaboration, law of attraction. By that I mean we shouldn’t work together for the sake of just working together. We should work together because we both possess the ability to contribute to an amazing idea. The other side of it is that it’s my story and my story should be told mainly with me as the narrator because I lived it. Now when other talented artists can help me paint my story better, we have magic! Huge records like Monstarz with Jack Swagg and JFK Speaks with the super talented Fatiya. After all those big moves, what do you expect from 2014? #2014 is gonna be a huge year. I worked my ass off in 2013 so I definitely expect this year to be full of giant accomplishments. I feel like I’m coming into 2014 with a lot of success but as always, Im wiping my memory and working like not a single person knows my name.

Will 2014 be time to get some features with major artists? I don’t know...maybe. Honestly, I am not putting a big focus on major features right now. My focus, musically, is standing on my own two feet. I think I put an amazing album together without one big feature. Im pretty sure it will make more sense in the near future. I have a short list of artists i definitely respect and would love to work with (Macklemore, Iggy, T.I, Lauryn Hill, Juicy J, MGK, Kanye). How important is lyricism to you? Lyricism is so important to the hip hop art form, sometimes is like decoding a message you have to have the mind power to creatively communicate your message. I mean when you think of your favorite rappers, all of mine are definitely lyricists: Pac, Biggie, Jay, Outkast, so that speaks for the importance and longevity. Did you ever deal with the battle circuit as an MC? I mean I’ve had my moments where I rip dudes at house parties but thats about it. I respect the battle art form but I am a song writer at heart. Whats the best and worst part about being unsigned? Ok ready... So the best part is I do what I want when I want. I release projects when I want and I have full creative control of all the music. Being unsigned also puts a chip on your shoulder. Personally, it just keeps me motivated. The worst part is you don’t have a million dollar budget like the majors. Most signed artist look at the dude coming up as a threat which means they’re not gonna do a damn thing to help you out! I plan to do the opposite when I’m in position! If I see that effort, talent, and most importantly, work ethic in an up and coming artist, trust me, I will reach my hand out and pull them up. I appreciate the route I have taken as an independent artist. It made me what I am now #BestRapperAlive What’s the hardest song you ever had to record? The hardest song I ever had to record is probably a record of mine called “Time Machine” I was at a very low point when I kind of doubted myself. When I say “doubt”, i’m not speaking from a talent perspective, but from me just lacking patience. Time Machine just spoke of leaving all my current struggles and traveling to a better time where I finally got what I deserve.

“Ride My Bike To The Moon..I was watching the movie E.T. with my son and for those familiar with the film, the little boy actually rides his bike levitating with the moon as the backdrop. So Steven Spielberg and Melissa Mathison, thank.you for the inspiration.” Who’s one of your favorite artist? Honestly right now, I would have to go new school on this one. I think that dude Macklemore has killed the game for the last 2 years. Dude is super talented and motivational plus what he has done on an independent level, is definitely something I hope to accomplish this year. Who’s your favorite sports figure? Hands Down Muhammad Ali! He Knew he was the best and was not scared to let the world know. He was always doubted and always proved the critics wrong. #Champion Whats your favorite movie? Vanilla Sky a classic Tom Cruise film. Whats your favorite place to visit? In the states... California because I love the ocean. Outside the states, I would love to go to Brazil. What’s your favorite kind of car? I would say my car Dodge Challenger new school muscle.

What’s your favorite fashion brand? Supra and Volcom as of right now Launching my own line “2083” in the next 2 years pretty sure that will be my new favorite. What is your most memorable moment in music past or present? Playing my 1st arena on The Stay Trippy Tour with Juicy was definitely a huge moment. Just walking out on stage... the feeling is indescribable, I mean rocking an arena full of fans is just a sign that Madison Square is coming soon. Who was the person or the artist that made you want to become an artist? My brother and his best friend in my early days were a huge influence considering they were both talented producers. Watching T.I. perform in hole in the wall clubs in the the early 2000’s was another wow moment that gave me that inner motivation. #GeekQuestion: Mass Effect or Halo? Madden

Was the song ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ decisive for your career? In some markets, it was decisive for my career. The song got international recognition. But in my core markets, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tomé & Príncipe, earlier releases such as ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ and ‘Fofo’ were decisive. Even today, I can’t afford to do any show in those markets without performing ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ and ‘Fofo’. But of course, ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ had an impact in the Francophone Zouk markets, Africa as a whole, and other international markets such as the Netherlands, Brazil, Curaçao and the Zouk and Kizomba scene worldwide. It got to number one in the mainstream urban charts in the Netherlands, and many still view it as my best song to date, and some of Africa’s best songs ever.

You have been in the industry for more than 15 years... After so much time in the game, How did your music evolved? When I started my career, I was more into English language R&B. But my first album was mostly Cape Verdean, and mostly the type of music that I describe as Pop Coladeira. Later on, my music evolved into Zouk, my third album ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ was a classic Zouk Love album. Then, I continued with Zouk Love, but incorporated other styles as well, including R&B and bachata. Looking at my upcoming album, to be released before the summer, I’d describe it more as a Latin Pop album, although you can feel the Zouk beat in many of my new songs. As the Diva of african zouk music... What’s the secret of your longevity? In my core market, I don’t only have one hit song, I have many throughout the years. Somehow, many of the melodies are that strong and the fans keep on asking for those songs, whether they are songs from the 1990’s or recent successes. My lyrics also appeal to many, especially women. At live events, many fans chant most of my songs word by word, they feel recognition in my lyrics, they have good memories listening or dancing to my songs. I often receive performance requests for wedding anniversary events, because it was on one of my songs that the couple first met and danced. And when it comes to my recent releases, even though the vibe can be different, it is my voice that remains recognizable. Raised & based in Netherlands, are you happy with the place of Zouk music today in this country? Zouk music and tropical music don’t get a lot of airplay on mainstream radio and TV networks, even though the music is hugely popular in clubs and in the major cities. It’s also a pity that Zouk music has primarily developed into club music, not only in the Netherlands but worldwide nowadays, most Zouk performances are playback, whereas in the 1980’s and 1990’s, performances were mostly done with a live band. Do you feel more comfortable when you sing in Portuguese or English? Most of my songs are in Cape Verdean Creole, a language influenced by Portuguese. Since I’ve become accustomed to sing in Creole, I feel most comfortable to sing in that language, because I feel and understand the emotions of my language. But I do like to sing in English as well, and with the right song and the right lyrics, I do feel the emotions of that language as well. One of my upcoming singles, to be released in 2014, is an R&B track called ‘No Chaser’. Although most of my songs were in Creole and I frequently sing in English as well, I’ve also recorded songs in Dutch, Spanish, French and Portuguese. 40

What’s the story behind it? Zouk producer Ronald Rubinel proposed the music to me. I started to write the vocal melody and the lyrics, together with Beto Dias. When recording the vocals at Latitude 101 Studio in Paris, I had a slight cold. Because of that cold, my voice probably sounded a little rougher. The video we shot in Rotterdam probably added to the magic. At that time Cape Verdean music videos were mostly of poor quality. The ‘Tudo Pa Bo’ video was more professional than Cape Verdeans and Zouk lovers were used to. Of course that’s all different now, but at that time, it probably added to the impact the song had. In the Netherlands the song reached the number one positions in the mainstream urban charts of both The Box Music television (MTV networks) and FunX radio, the first and only Cape Verdean language song in mostly English language music charts. Cape Verdeans in the Netherlands were proud and spread the world internationally. It all added up. For our readers, tell us what is ‘your top 3’ biggest hits in your career? That’s a tough question, because it depends on the local market. Some songs were big in one country, others in another country. Internationally, ‘Tudo Pa Bo’, my recent hit ‘Tardi Di Mas’, and Kora Awards winner ‘Nha Sonho’ were probably my biggest success songs. But in many countries, I can’t do any show without performing ‘Festa Mascarado’, ‘Pensa Na Mi’, ‘Razao d’nha Vida’, ‘Fofo’, ‘Silencio’ and many more. After so many hits, what are your challenges? My new album, to be released in the first part of 2014, will be my most personal to date, most songs are self composed. When composing new songs, I’m always trying something new, trying different musical directions. I’m not used to fall back to old success songs and repeat the same style over and over again. That would have been the easiest way forward, but I just can’t do that because it doesn’t give me any creative challenges. In the past few years I’ve done a bachata, I recorded some English language dance songs, and my new album will be very different from all I’ve done before, although the Zouk beat will still be here. You have traveled a lot so far! What’s your best trip? That’s another tough one. I had many good trips. I’ll never forget the Kora Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, nor my Brazilian tour bringing me to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. But I had so many good trips. I’ll always remember a live show in Luanda, Angola, where women in the audience started to cry when I sang ‘Razao d’nha Vida’ (the reason of my life), a 1999 song that even today touches the hearts of many fans. For all the readers (especially the men), are you single? I prefer to separate my private life from my professional life. But to answer your question, no I’m not single. What is your type of men? Honest, straightforward, not someone who believes life is about money and expensive cars. If you believe you can impress me by showing off with materialistic stuff, you’re wrong.

“My dreams are not so much for myself, but more in general. I don’t like it when an eight year old girl is chanting ‘oh mama, mama, I just shot a man down’. I know there’s not much I can do about it, but why are we giving so many bad examples to our children? Why do we encourage young girls to dance like Miley Cyrus? I’m not naïve, I know there’s not much we can do about it, but I do believe many artists are acting without being conscious of the message they give to young children. On a broader level, my dreams are related to ending misery in the world. It is heartbreaking to see images of ‘napalm-like’ school bombing in Syria while the world is not acting. Why do we allow this to happen?”

“Without any doubts, it would be Patrick Saint-Eloi if he was still alive. Because it was a great artist, he gave so much love through his music and that’s what I loved about him. I respect him a lot. #RIPPatrick!”

Guadeloupe... How can you describe your island? For me, it is a multi-colored butterfly. That is to say it is beautiful, welcoming, friendly. It’s all for me. Guadeloupe is my island so I can’t find enough words to describe it and say how much I love it. I am proud of my island. How is the Zouk music industry other there? Zouk music occupies a very important place in the French Caribbean Islands because it represents our culture and it touches all the generations, from youngest to oldest. It also affects many people in metropolitan France and Europe. Zouk music is also very popular in Africa! Earlier in your life, you were a Gospel singer. How did it influence your music? Gospel has influenced me throughout my career at several levels. My melodies, the way I interpret and the songs. It comes from the heart. It’s like a fusion between me and the music I play. As Gospel music is full of emotions, it helped me a lot for my album. How important was your featuring with Daddy Killa? It was definitly one of my biggest hit. it’s the one that helped me to make the buzz all around the world. it gave me the opportunity to travel in Africa and West Indies. That incredible success really did boost my career. I am very happy and I salute Daddy Killa with whom i kept working hard and today, it pays off. What is the concept behind your song “Mi Amor”? The message I wanted to share with my public is that, some

times, couples have hard times but you don’t have to give up, you have to learn how to forgive... because Love is stronger than anything. If you could be in the studio working on music and have anyone from your country in your corner, who would you have in your team and why them? Without any doubts, it would be Patrick Saint-Eloi if he was still alive. Because it was a great artist, he gave so much love through his music and that’s what I loved about him. I respect him a lot. R.I.P Patrick! What are your other talents? Stony is a good cook. LOL. I love to create good food. I was always following my mother when I was a little girl. I remember when she was cooking... The Love of cooking... She gave me that! and I love being in the kitchen, preparing food... It always reminds me my childhood... It makes me feel nostalgic. What are your projects for 2014? A new album... God willing... New featurings and a lot of Live performances because It’s a real pleasure to spend time with my fans! What’s the craziest thing a fan did for you? A fan has tattooed “Stony” on her chest ... AWESOME !!! !!! !!! Tell us something cute & sexy in french for our readers... “My hustle mentality is matched by no one. My dream is to be a future entrepreneur in music” “and in fashion. FIRST TIME...

Im from Hazelwood, a neighborhood in the Eastside of Pittsburgh PA. It’s a very rough and gritty neighborhood where a lot of drugs and violence occur. I fell in love with hip hop at 13. I was really into the Master P. and the No Limit era, but when Jay-Z and DMX started to take off, I fell in love with the actual lyrical content of hip hop. I would just freestyle around the hood with one of my closest friends. It was more so just something to do. Through my high school years, I still had a passion for music but never wrote my own songs. I would just freestyle with friends. It wasnt until I was 18 that I wrote my first song because I wanted to be a part of my cousin’s label. I remember spitting my verses to him (nervously) hoping he would actually like them and surprisingly, he did. Soon after that, he wanted to start working with me.

KRAZY STORY...

A crazy story I can’t ever forget involved my

older brother. He was a pretty big drug dealer in Hazelwood. When I became a little older (in my late teens), he tried to get me down with him hustling in the streets. Two years prior, I had got into a situation with the law so I didnt really want any parts of it at that time. I remember being at work (at the time I cleaned offices) and my coworker came out of nowhere and said, “Hey, your mom called and said you gotta go home.” I kept asking him what the problem was. I wanted to be sure she was okay. After repeatedly asking him, as we walked to the elevator he stopped and said, “I’m sorry man. Your brother is dead.” I later found out he was stabbed to death. The death of my brother and how it occurred made me more aggressive in life as far as getting money and taking care of my family. I havent looked back since.

2014...

I have currently released my new single, “I B on My Job”. After I get a good enough response and allow it to be heard in the streets for some

time, I’m going to release my mixtape: Point Blank Period.

NEXT KRUSH...

I feel I got next in hip hop because I have no limit to my work ethic. My hustle mentality is matched by no one. My dream is to be a future entrepreneur in music and in fashion. Im different from everybody else because I deliver real events in my music with a fashion style that people will cling to. You can say im a trendsetter in my own right.

INSPIRATION TWEET...

One inspirational tweet I really liked came from @J_C_McDonald: Attitude will take you further than talent. I always keep a good attitude because I don’t want to burn bridges. I believe you never know when your going to need someone so it’s important to treat everybody with respect.

Another sound from Netherlands... Where do you come from & How did you start producing beats? I’m from Utrecht / The Netherlands & I started producing in 2010. I wanted to produce for a long time but had no idea where I could find the right production setup. I was 15 years old when I hit up a music store in my area and they told me to start with FL studio so I bought it and definitely enjoyed it! What is your main inspiration? What is the process in creating music? I listen to many genres. It helps me a lot to create my own beats. I listen to a lot of rock music too. Sometimes, i have some breaks in order to reload myself and avoid the saturation, the lack of inspiration. It makes me create a powerful music. You can hear in my productions different sounds influenced by all these genres. That’s why i am so versatile and creative. Please describe your sound? My sound is different. One of my main concerns is to not sound like other producers. And I work hard to get my own unique sound, something very recongnizable for the public. I hear too many artists who sound the same nowadays. I want to bring something new. What type of material do you use to create music? I start with my guitar to get some nice chords for my beat. After that, I’m using my keyboard to fill it up, FL studio is one of the programs I use a lot, but I’m trying to work with other softwares as well. The more experiences I get, the better it is.

If you could be in studio with a famous artist, Who would he be? With Michael Jackson if he was alive. He was a great musician. His music still inspires me. It sounds like music was better in the past. Your first hip hop krush? Originally, I come from Turkey, but born and raised in The Netherlands. First artist who really caught my attention was Sean Paul. I bought his ‘’The Trinity’’ album when I was a kid. Krazy story... One day, a friend of my dad introduced me to a producer who worked with Pitbull and other big names in the industry. He taught me a lot about music in a short time and it really helped me. It’s crazy how my music got much better after that day, unbelievable. Your projects for 2014? I got an upcoming EP with Freezer Beats. More projects with MakeWay Productions, the team I’ve been with since last year. Why are you the next Hip Hop fan’s KRUSH? Most producers stop making music after a short time because they are only motivated by money, but the thing is, If you are not able to love your art, then you are not able to make money & expand a solid network. I believe in my music that’s why I’m getting better everyday. My dream is to get bigger and work with other talented musicians from everywhere.

GIL YANIV

KRAZY STORY...

For a while, I was writing Christian music, but at times a lot of head ache came along with that from outside people. Too much disagreement with the direction of the group and music concepts. I wanted a sound that would stand out and not be the traditional sound. But as time went on, I felt boxed in my creativity. I do believe in God, no doubt, but sometimes I don’t want to write about that. To me, the subject matter is very limited because some topics may be too much to handle in that environment. I wanted to be free to act a fool on stage if I wanted to, and voice my opinion freely about anything that came to mind in a song. When I went that direction with my music, I felt better because I want to be real to myself, the listeners, and the music. Some people may not understand and if they don’t, then its probably not for them to understand and I’m cool with that, I gotta still do me. As an artist and a man, this had given me the time to accept people won’t get you all the time and some may show you hate.

2014...

Right now I’m in the process of working on my next mixtape “The High” that should be released by the summer. I’m a big fan of Clams Casino, so a few tracks have that type of feel to them. Later in the year, I’m hoping to have an album ready. Other than that, I’m just working on getting my music heard and building a fan base. But in the meantime, you can always check out my music at www.soundcloud.com/gilyanivmusic or www.reverbnation.com/gilyaniv

“I can’t change who I am. I don’t want to be that person that money changed.”

FIRST TIME...

I was born November 8 1989 in Petersburg, Va. I grew up in Chesterfield, Va. Coming up, I was inspired to do music by artists outside of the culture of hiphop. I listened to Sytsem of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Deftones. I’ve always wanted that concept of those styles mixed with hip hop. I remember hearing BIG do “Suicidal Thoughts” and was taken back by how real that song was. Like damn, a lot of people won’t say something like that, but he took it there and if you’ve ever been in that place, you could relate to it all the way. But one of my major influences in hip hop is Kanye West. I feel he came in at a time where it seemed everybody had the same subject matter and he took it deeper. I remember waking up one morning getting ready for school and mtv was on. The “Through the Wire” video came on and that was it for me. Every thing dude went through to get where he was and the he got in the accident and with his jaw wired shut he did that song. Dude was basically saying “Who the hell can stop me now?” That influenced me to keep grinding always, don’t the bullshit of life get to you. Direct all that anger, frustration, joy, whatever you have, and put it into the music.

“I’m always yelling We Got Next, because I just know that I’m too determined and skilled for anything different to happen. I don’t have the street story that you hear about in some music today.”

I’m always yelling We Got Next, because I just know that I’m too determined and skilled for anything different to happen. I don’t have the street story that you hear about in some music today. Thats no diss on those artists, it just wasn’t a part of my life coming up. I know people that did it but it wasn’t me. Because of that, my story telling in my music may be different. The culture has evolved so much and the fan base grown to where the fans like the music but may not relate to everything. I feel I relate to those people especially. I’m different because I make music that appeals to me. I think it all starts with self. If you can be real with yourself then everybody else will respect your craft even more. I don’t want to lose sign of the music for wealth or the idea of people pleasing. I just want to be able to share my story and hopefully see some gain down the road but I can’t change who I am. I don’t want to be that person that money changed.

“Trust me when I say I wouldnt be a part of anything thats not fresh as hell and new. Being a follower will never be me.” -Kid Cudi I have to be original and true to that always. Some songs that come on are a dime a dozen and three months down the road they are done. You want to make an impact from day one and push harder each time. Make them remember you for being a pioneer in the culture.

QUIZZLE THE CANNON GOT NEXT...

I got next because it’s open for the taking. I’m as nice or even better than who’s out right now! I got the potential. My dreams are to own some real-estate. I want to get my family out of the hood and in a better position. I’m different from these niggaz because I don’t want much and I grind to get whatever I want. Ima go-getter and I’m never content... my appetite is big!

NEWS...

Since last time, I jus been working on new music. I dropped The Underdog Pt 1 which ended up being one of the best projects I’ve released. I decided to follow it up with The Underdog Pt 2. We are getting ready to release it.

THE UNDERDOG PT.2...

3 words... Real Street Music. I speak from my point of view. And mainly on the streets and what’s going on out here as I see it. Def a solid project, the whole way around from production to lyrics.

THE UNDERDOG PT.1...

The Underdog Pt 1 like I said previously was my best project to date. My fans and family loved it. Even did great on datpiff.com. That’s why I decided to follow up wit Pt 2. Getting feedback always feels good to me and is one of my fav parts about putting a project out.

LEAD SINGLE...

The first single is titled “Long Cream”. We just shot the video for it. The song is inspired by wanting a lot of money and dreaming of a lot of money. As I know, we all do. I start my first verse like “Cash rules everything around me Wu-Tang” it’s some shit everybody can relate to.

KRAZY STORY...

I mean I got so many life experiences good and bad that I can’t pick one situation that changed me. I know that everything I’ve been through thus far has molded me into the individual I am. The same as anybody who’s gone through tough times. What don’t kill you, makes you a warrior in my eyes. You gotta keep pushin. Without the bad, we wouldn’t appreciate the great things that happen to us.

KNOWLEDGE GONZALEZ

FIRST TIME...

I am Knowledge Gonzalez (@knwldgegonzalez on twitter), a spoken word/hip hop artist from Brampton, Ontario just outside of Toronto. My current album is called: “Diaries Of A Single Father”and tells the story of being and becoming a single father to my lil homo “JuJu”. I was born in my hometown of Brampton, Ontario Canada, but I have proud roots from Italy on my mother’s side and South American (Uruguay) on my father’s side. Falling in love with hip hop for me, was like that girlfriend you kept parting with but always seem to find your way back to cause. That’s where your heart is but... The first time I fell In love with hip hop I give all the credit to the fugees, I strongly believe if the score was never released, I wouldn’t have had that spark that fueled my infatuation to explore rap more. I remember being in grade 6 and ready or not was played at every house party, then killing me softly, which in Toronto on the particular radio station we listened to, kept getting #1 week after week, but they would do a countdown of the top 10 songs everyday so at lunch in our class our teacher would let us put the radio on and I just remember soon as killing me softly came on, our class at lunch turned into a mini jam as we all rap along: “1 time 1 time” “ two times two times”. That’s the second I realized that the soul in many rap artists are capable of creating a feeling of protection, confidence or security by bringing you to your own world, so once that artists connects with a beat, its nothing short of magic, even if you’ re depressed, you want to fight back after listening to the right songs,

KRAZY STORY...

If have to say the most incredible thing to ever happen to me was becoming a single father. I mean, being a father at all would have been incredible enough but, having to raise my son alone, has made me such a better man, son, and artist. I didn’t see it at the time as I was so depressed trying to fight it off out of guilt as I didn’t want my son to be affected.,. Or the least possible...And the part of this story that’s hard but needed was the day I found out my sons mom wasn’t gonna be home. That night or... Any night soon... So as I sat in my apartment shocked, trying to fight off the tears. I remember I was so frustrated I had to leave my son in his crib to cry and go in the other room and collect myself. Although this is the right procedure when you’re at a boiling point. You still cant help feeling inadequate, or emasculated, after I calmed down, I made a hard conscious choice, and went to my neighbors door who is a nurse at a hospital and ask for help. The awkward part is we did not like to each other, cause before my son, I was reckless throwing parties, being too loud at 4am, stinking up the halls with weed smoke.., pretty much we were the typical annoying neighbors 54

But knowing she was a nurse that day, things would change... I was about to change. So now, I’m knocking on a neighbors door who I’m well aware doesn’t like me, and as I knocked on that door, I remember it felt like time stopped and all I could think to myself was “If I don’t learn to stop partying and be a man your gonna ruin your sons life”. Then, I just started rambling in panic, wanting to explain everything in one breath and with such speed twists would give me props, I explained through tears that are still flowing like niagras balls: “My sons mother isn’t coming home and I don’t even know how to mix the formula, and he’s freaking out to a point I couldn’t handle anymore, what am I Gonna do, I can’t fukkin do this alone“ frantically talking out loud... But..., i made it through and my neighbor who I now proudly call my friend patty, came over everyday after work from then on to check on us and make sure I didn’t trade him for magic beans. The impact that this has made on my life made me become the person I’ve always wanted to be. I learned patience, although I still lose it, the improvement is shocking, being unconditionally selfless, which is beautiful cause that’s where you can find true love, when you know you’ll sacrifice what you want just because them being happy will make you way happier in the end than what you sacrificed..

2014...

I’m working on the follow up already to my current album which drops next month, which is actually the prequel titled the break-up. Burlington slam team; Like every year, ill be getting ready for the new spoken word season and hope to be part of the winning team at nationals, while also competing in our last district slam of the year as a team, who are close friends and talented poets (Aria “ambrosia” Tess, sam Bassam Halevy And our team captain Tomy “bam bam” Bewick. Conflicted Alliance, the rap group I’m apart of, that has been on hiatus due to one of our boys getting deported (fuck we miss you dj A.K.A cold case), another had legal troubles that are done now and I became a father but looks like after a long wait, we’re finally gonna drop this year. Shout outs to my other homies in the group heartless J A.K.A. Lil homie, and andrew coley AKA L.I.P (loud in public). Vic Freeze & Knowledge Gonzalez”s mixtape originally titled “winter in Toronto”is coming soon as well.

ADAM ARREY FIRST TIME...

I was born in Silver City, New Mexico. It’s one of those small towns where everyone comes to retire, and the most fun thing to do is go to Walmart. But, I guess that is when you just have to get creative with how you have fun! The first time I fell in love with Hip Hop was when I was getting into skating. I would just turn on my Ipod and be gone all day, skating around town with the whole crew. Jedi Mind Tricks and Snowgoons always get me in my zone when I’m skating. I remember just going up to a set of stairs, trying to pump myself up to clear it, and the music was the only thing that made me ballsy enough to go for it and get out of my head.

KRAZY STORY...

I think that the most significant part in my life was being at rock bottom, I truly hated life. All I wanted to do for weeks was sleep or listen to music, the less engagement with reality the better. One morning woke up and I guess you can call it a eureka moment, something a good friend had told me finally sunk in “you have to be happy, even though sometimes it’s a difficult task you have to work at it“. I believe music can definitely give you a push in the right direction in life; it brings people from all around the world together and creates new friendships. Almost all my life I have been involved with music and I stopped once I graduated high school. With music always being my go to support, I’ve been trying to use my music to impact others.

GOT NEXT...

I know that I have Next because I’m not just striving for myself or team, but anyone wanting to join the movement that we are starting. Music isn’t just one persons; why not make everyone that supports what you do live the dream with you? My dream is to be able to make music all day, everyday, and not have to work an extra job or two. I think the difference between me and others is everyone else has a greed for money. If I am ever able to have the right to say that, something I did, helped other people and that I made a change, then I’ve completed my purpose. Music is too significant to solely be based on money and politics.

INSPIRATION TWEET...

One of my favorite Tweets would have to be from @machinegunkelly “Don’t count me out. my time is right around the corner”. I like this tweet because that’s what drives every entrepreneur is the mystery of what tomorrow has in store for us. Tomorrow could be the day you get that record deal, make a million, or meet the love of your life. If you give up today how do you know tomorrow isn’t your time to shine?
