FULHUM x CJ COMU Interview by French Vouvou “We can’t outspend the billion dollar players - but we can potentially out smart them with a grass roots campaign and strong loyal drinkers that spread their stories on social media.”

CJ Comu - Founder of Fulhum Water

“Our product “FulHum” carries with it up to 70 trace minerals from the Earth and a natural +9ph that can help detox the body” What were the first steps in creating your brand of water? The first step in creating a successful beverage brand is the “formulation”. If you mess this up - the consumers may not give you second chance. The formulation is a combination of how the concentrate and the water composition work. This science is followed by focus group and individual tasters to try and get the best consensus on the finished product before manufacturing and retail launch. Where did the idea to create your own brand of water come from? Met a man in his 80’s that had found a source of Fulvic & Humic Concentrate he bought from a Health Food Store and after he explained how it Changed his Life - we started to explore this magical natural discovery and eventually launch our own brand of a RTD (Ready to Drink) Beverage called FulHum. How did you choose the name “FulHum” and what does it represent? FulHum was the chosen name after extensive focus group testing with staff members of Amazon Marketing. Our product represents the true essence of a brand which is “whats in it”? FUlvic & Humic Compounds - which is why the name “FulHum” was chosen and when you pronounce it - the “H” is silent. 8

FRESH MAGAZINE 2016

Are people curious, afraid or surprised when they look at the color of your water? In other words, is it hard to sell a ‘dark’ water? Yes & No. As people drink a “black beverage” such as Coffee or Soft Drinks - the next stage of the Beverage Evolution is Healthy Water with Trace Minerals from the Earth - which is why it’s black. BUT, since our product is odorless and tastes just like ordinary bottled water - after one sip - people get it.

Education and Awareness. We can’t outspend the billion dollar players - but we can potentially out smart them with a grass roots campaign and strong loyal drinkers that spread their stories on social media.

Did you study business, or work in the water industry before you started FulHum? No - I am a career entrepreneur that has been involved in a number of exciting business ventures from Manufacturing to Consumer Products www.cjcomu.com and now have the honor to lead this company and work with an awesome team of professionals and industry advisors to brand and expand our products.

Who are the main FulHum targets demographic wise? Any Man - Woman - Child from the age of 5 to 95 should try one bottle a day. It delivers the much needed micro nutrients for the body to help the immune system get strong to reduce incidence of disease.

Other than the color, What does your beverage bring on the table/industry? Our product “FulHum” carries with it up to 70 trace minerals from the Earth and a natural +9ph that can help detox the body - remove heavy metals and radicals and help a person stay healthier longer. As a new brand, what are some challenges you have faced with the business?

Where is Fulhum currently distributed to? For a full list - please visit www.fulhum.com for stores near you and/or you can order online direct.

What’s next for FulHum this coming summer? We have a HUGE announcement of a brand NEW line of very exciting SKU’s coming out May 1st that will totally surprise the beverage industry!

SVET x ALEKSEY DUBOV Interview by Joha Brown “SVET will energise you in the morning and help you relax in the evening based on your individual circadian biorhythm. We are looking to develop more health-centered lighting scenarios...“ Without giving your secrets away, can you explain how your product works? What technology does SVET use? We use a combination of LEDs with a high color-rendering index and special LED drivers that allow for flicker-free dimming. Moreover, our selection of LEDs has additional deep red, cyan and green units. This allows us to adjust the spectrum and achieve high-quality light even at very warm and very cold color temperatures, like for example 1800K or 8000K. So far, what has the public feedback been? Most people are amazed to know that proper lighting may give them tangible health benefits.

Aleksey Dubov - Founder & CEO of SVET. Can you give us the gist of what SVET is? What makes it unique? SVET is healthfriendly lighting. Every feature of SVET is designed around the notion of safeguarding and even improving the user’s health. Its light is safe for the eyes, while the dynamic lighting scenarios help reduce stress during the day and improve sleep quality at night. Not only will SVET extend and compensate your light day, it will help you perform better. It is quite a different approach to lighting. What does the word “SVET” mean or stand for? The word “svet” comes from slavic languages and means “light” or “the world”. We feel its double meaning is perfect for our product. How did you come up with this original idea? Is it somehow connected to your personal experiences? I had a side project related to smart lighting back to 2012. When the time 10

FRESH MAGAZINE 2016

came to test the prototypes we created, I was disappointed with the light quality of the bulbs. That was what prompted me to start researching light quality for the first time. I was surprised to learn that light influenced our health in so many ways. I started digging around and found a lot of information on the topic. I learned how light influences sleep, stress, and productivity, researched how different light affects our eyes. Then I realized there was no solution on the market that combined safe, healthy lighting with sunlight dynamics. So I decided to start SVET. Were you surprised when you discovered that lighting can impact people’s health? Yes, although I was more surprised by how much we underestimate the role of lighting in our everyday environment. From my experience, more than 90% of people straight up ignore the part light plays in their lives.

How will SVET revolutionize the way we consume energy and light? SVET light bulbs are more energy efficient than CFL and incandescent light bulbs. If you already use LEDbased lighting, the difference in energy consumption would not be big. But from the health point of view, you will definitely feel the difference. SVET will energise you in the morning and help you relax in the evening based on your individual circadian biorhythm. There’s also a significant step forward in sheer functionality and usability. You have total control over the light’s color, brightness and other parameters, and if you don’t want to bother, a simple light switch flick will get you dynamic, auto-adjusting light for the rest of the day without any additional effort. What’s your next innovation? We are looking to develop more health-centered lighting scenarios and take into account such parameters as users’ age and gender. I think that we will unveil those features in the end of the year when our light bulbs start shipping. As an innovator, what is your next challenge with SVET? Bringing something new to an existing market is always a challenge. After shipping to our customers, I’d say we’ll look into designing SVET light bulbs with different screw bases and in different form factors – there are a lot of different light bulb standards around the world, and we want to reach out to as much people as possible!

LEONARDO BARROS x FBT INVESTMENTS Interview by Joha Brown “I have had the chance to meet amazing families and help their children have moments of extreme happiness, which makes it all worth it” - achildswish.org According to you, what’s the biggest “popular belief” about your job? The fakest cliché? Some people may still link the profession of the today’s Financial Advisors to the stockbroker characters portrayed in movies like “The Wolf of Wall Street” or “Wall Street” - movies where greed and bad behavior were heavily explored and honored. However, that certainly does not reflect the professional environment we have today. New and tougher regulations have made it very difficult for that type of unethical behavior to take place anymore. Also, market competition and technology is also reshaping the industry, creating an environment where only the most knowledgeable and trustworthy advisors will thrive.

A lot of people are not very familiar with the world of finance. What is the role of a financial advisor? As a financial advisor, I have the chance to work with individuals and families and help them create plans for retirement, college education of their children, inheritance of assets from older generations, the selling or closing of a business or even during critical moments like the loss of employment or a divorce. All of these moments in our lives affects our finances differently and that’s where I come in and help them look at things in a rational and effective way. Some of my responsibilities involve staying abreast of global economic issues and understanding how these affect each aspect of my clients’ financial plans. Talking about the sphere of finance, can you give us the main differences between Brazil and North America? These days, when I hear anyone asking or talking about Brazil, the first word that comes to my mind is “corruption”. The turmoil created by several high ranked politicians and directors of major publicly traded corporations being investigated for corruption and unethical practices has culminated into what can be considered the most unstable economic and political scenario of this century for Brazil. The financial system which is still in its infancy, as compared to the American financial system, is once more a direct victim of this government’s mismanagement and direct intervention in the free markets. People imagine a lot of things about the world of finance... between myth and reality.

How does the Louisiana Film Tax Credits help TV/film professionals? The film/TV/entertainment business has grown a lot in the last decade due to the Louisiana Film Tax Credit program. The tax credit has been responsible for attracting a lot of productions to Louisiana over the past 10 years. And, as producers have been attracted here over the years, we have built an incredible infrastructure of stages, crew and support services with all the facets that filmmakers need to make a movie. This expansion has directly led to an immense growth in job creation, with stable, higher paying jobs for those who work on the movie sets. The program offers an attractive feature to boost the local labor force—our program gives an extra tax incentive to productions that employ local (Louisiana resident) professionals. This has created a strong motivation for professionals to relocate here and become Louisiana residents and taxpayers. What are the direct consequences for your city? The transformation and the benefits have been incredible. Louisiana has grown to become one of the most attractive places to film and our Film Tax Credit program is one of the best in the country. A great amount of professionals have moved to the city, helping to grow its tax base, strengthening our economy and revitalizing some New Orleans neighborhoods. With all these film projects coming to the city, a lot of local citizens were able to be trained and become experts in the different areas of TV/Film/Entertainment productions and were able to land good paying jobs on these productions. So we have a large base of homegrown talent that can put together anything from large tent pole productions, to music videos and commercials for advertising campaigns. The movie industry also

creates direct jobs and opportunities for support services like the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants and bars), the rental car and limousine industries, catering companies, the real estate market, and so on. When productions are in town, they utilize everything we have here- so in a way, everyone feels the effects. In addition, our program was reformed in 2015 to give a tax credit for lower budget films that have a large percentage of Louisiana resident crew. This measure was created to encourage local producers and talent to develop and film here, even if they don’t have a $10 million budget. Louisiana is a very creative place, with culture at every corner. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more films being completely produced by local people and winning industry awards in the coming years. We would love to talk about “Child Wish”. With your wife, you are very involved in this non-profit organization for children! This non-profit provides wishes to Louisiana children that have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses. Through the years I’ve been involved, I have had the chance to meet amazing families and help their children have moments of extreme happiness, which makes it all worth it. This is a non-paid, all-volunteer charity that has provided more than 1,000 wishes through the past 30 years. The organization was founded in 1982 by Leonard Alsfeld, a friend and mentor. Leonard’s godchild was diagnosed with leukemia, and he was granted a wish by a similar organization back in Rhode Island. He became very touched by what they did and decided to start a similar program here in Louisiana, founding a Child’s Wish of Greater New Orleans. We provide these families with things like trips to Disney World or Hawaii, or allow the children to meet star athletes and celebrities. It has been a very rewarding experience. We have been very fortunate in raising funds for our wishes during the past few years through different events and donation channels. We are now very focused on expanding our presence in Louisiana, making sure that people know we’re here to help and make a difference. Our goal for the year is to connect with several children and their families and provide as many wishes as we can.

Interview by Jean Paul Glass www.voycemusic.com Interview by Geene Vodka

VOYCE*

FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT How have you been since your last feature in Mr Dreamz magazine? I’ve been doing well, busy but I’m not complaining… much. I’d like to take this opportunity though to thank you for all the support you gave me in 2015 and continue to give even now, thanks to you I continue to reach new heights and I am eternally grateful for that. With the industry as it is today, contrary to belief, it is increasingly harder to truly be seen and you’ve given me outlets to let my music be discovered and that was a big focus for me last year. The last quarter of 2015 was very hectic for you! You finally released 2 albums which include more than 60 tracks! On October 20th and December 15th of last year, I released ‘Alone in a Crowd: Angels | Demons’ and ‘Hidden in Plain Sight: King of the Sand Castle’ respectively. I won’t lie to you, the months leading up to those releases were filled with both anticipation and fear. Anticipation because those were moments 5yrs in the making. Fear because after all this time I was putting myself out there, giving the world access to my mind and that is a scary thing, especially when you compound the fact that both projects would host 60 tracks, and would release so close to one another. I’ll be honest, when I first started working on AiaC back in 2010, I had no idea where that road would take me, but as I started edging on the end of 2015 it became clear to me that I was telling the autobiography of my life since 2010. HiPS in contrast is a project I started working on in 2013, and unlike its predecessor which is self-produced, it is produced by the very talented Sookz. I’ve said this a thousand times but I’ll say it again because it needs to be said: when I first met Sookz I was instantly drawn to his emotionally driven instrumentals. He has a way of telling stories without using words and that evoked something in me. Like AiaC, when we embarked on this journey we really didn’t know where we were going, we just knew it was a road we needed to be on. It soon become clear that HiPS told the story of Voyce* whereas AiaC told the story of Stephen (my real name). They are 2 sides to the same story, 2 perspectives of a split mind. How did you build the bridge between the two projects? I just realized that I answered part of this question in my previous response, so I’ll just build on what I said. Warning: what I say after this will undoubtedly make me sound crazy… You’ve been warned. In making AiaC, Voyce* was telling Stephen’s story, a story of pain, loss and sometimes hope. In doing so it began to burden Voyce* who was acting as the messenger. HiPS allowed Voyce* to release his own frustrations. Having Sookz drive that project allowed Voyce* to focus on himself and tell his own story, the story of a man being thrown into the spotlight. It is that split per-

sonality that bridges both worlds, where the only separation is a paper thin mirror. Like I said… crazy. Let’s focus now on Hidden In The Plain Sight: King Of The Sand Castle. Can you introduce the project? Sure thing, but before I do I just want reiterate that HiPS, unlike AiaC which was self-produced, was produced by Sookz. In working on AiaC I not only penned the words but also created the instrumentals. However in working on HiPS, Sookz took on the mantle of producer, letting me focus on the lyrics and its melodies while he created the music that drives it. So in many ways the songs in HiPS tell two stories, mine from a lyrics perspective and Sookz’s from an instrumentation point of view. For the sake of this interview I can only speak from my point of view. Sookz built the frameworks for the instrumentals and then sent them to me and each song I wrote around them was in many ways an emotional response. I’ll refrain from diving too deeply into why the songs were written because I want each listener to forge their own connections to them. Hips Begins: Mirror… ‘HipS Begins’ is the mirrored version ‘AiaC begins’ which appears on Stephen’s album (see what I did there). If you listen to both back to back you’ll actually see exactly where they meet and where they don’t. It sets the stage for the rest of the album and at the same time creates the new universe for HiPS while acknowledging the parallel universe that is AiaC.

“Working on Hidden in Plain King of the Sand Castle was just as much of a self exploration experience as it was a great learning experience in honing my own production skills.” - Sookz

FRESH MAGAZINE 2016

19 19 19 19

#HIPSSTORY Honesty: Confession… ‘Honesty’ is about putting your demons on the table, it unapologetically apologizes for the person you’ve become.

Kill For (feat. Stokes): Price… ‘Kill For’ is to HiPS what ‘The Price’ is to AiaC, albeit it takes that story to a much darker place. It talks about doing whatever it takes to get to where you know you should be, even if it means going too far. It talks about the fame monster, a concept I’ll explore further in future songs. Man in the Mirror: Madness… ‘Man in the Mirror’ is the unfolding of an already broken psyche. It’s an internal conversation between the exterior person and the person inside. It was inspired by Michael Jackson’s song of the same name. Damn It Simona: Desire… ‘Damn It Simona’ is song of desire, of wanting what you know you shouldn’t have. Simona in many ways is the personification of temptation and how you can be drawn to her even though you know how bad things can end when you confuse love for lust and lust for love. Loneliest Star (feat. Swift K.I.D): Space… When writing ‘Loneliest Star’ I kept visualizing a star suspended in space without a planet orbiting it, wishing it had just one. It’s a song about fame and how you can shine so bright and still feel ultimately alone. Nothing to Live For: Regret… ‘Nothing to Live For’ as the name suggests talks about putting the entirety of your heart into someone else and then watching that person walk away. It’s that empty space where your heart used to be. Feels So Good: Escape… At its surface ‘Feels So Good’ sound like the… feel so good pop song of the album, but listen to it carefully and it’ll reveal much more. That’s all I’ll say about this one, I’d rather the listener makes their own discoveries.

Proud of You: Disappointment… No matter how high we climb in life and how much we achieve, there’s that one person you just wish would say “I’m proud of you” but doesn’t. That’s what ‘Proud of You’ is about, about wanting that person to see you the way everyone else already does. Happy Birthday: Mum… ‘Happy Birthday’ is one of the most personal songs on this projects. Like ‘Diamond in the Sky’ on AiaC, it’s about my mum, about how I’d give everything up for a chance to see her one more time even for but a moment. Run (feat. Swift K.I.D): Run… All I kept picturing when writing this song was a person standing still in a crowd with everyone else running passed him. This is one of those songs that’ll change meaning depending on when you listen to it and whatever situations are happening in your life and for that reason I’ll leave the listener to make their own connections and see them change in time. Worthless (feat. Madison): Used… ‘Worthless’ talks about feeling used, about feeling like all you are to someone is sex but at the same time being addicted to that feeling. It’s strange how we can feel two emotional extremes at the exact same time towards the same thing. Further Than I’ve Ever Been: Reflection… As you go through life, circumstance will mold you, you’ll feel pain, joy, sorrow, happiness, and in all that you’ll change, not knowing that you have until you look back. That is what this song is about, about looking back at your life and realizing you don’t recognize it anymore. Where No One Knows My Name: Irony… It’s ironic how you can crave the spotlight and wish it away the second you get it. I think our insecurities come to the surface when we know everyone is watching. ‘Where No One Knows My Name’ encapsulates that feeling of wanting to be unseen for a moment.

Thank You for Coming Out (feat. Sookz): Transition… ‘Thank You for Coming Out’ might be the last song on this project but it’s also the beginning of another chapter. What does that mean? Only time will tell… only time will tell. *drops the mic* Follow Voyce* on IG: @Voycemusic

WITT LOWRY TEASER Interview by Joha Brown

“The darkest nights make the brightest stars.”

What is Hip Hop today in 2016? It’s whatever you decide it is to you. I think people spend far too much time trying to define things, put things into a box, especially music. Music is music to me, It doesn’t matter what category it falls under, I either enjoy what I’m listening to or I don’t. What is your message for all those people who says ‘Hip Hop’ is dead nowadays? I think that with the internet we as a society control what’s “dead” and what’s “alive” I think that every single person now has access to finding the exact type of music they prefer at all times. There may be certain sounds that are more popular than others at different times, but those are constantly changing. As Kanye West said “Are Rappers the new Rock stars” now? It really depends on how you define “Rock Star” if it’s judged by success in

music sales then no, Adele sold around 3.38 Million her first week and Taylor Swift around 1.287 million. So I guess it really depends on how you look at it. For the 2 last years, you have been one of the most productive underground artists in the game...Your fanbase has grown very spectacularly! Beyond the quality of your work, what’s the secret of your success? Honestly there is no secret, I have a wonderful team, and we work very hard and smart. Everyone is passionate about what they do and we just continue to push ourselves, progress, and create amazing art... (read more in our next #Spring edition)

It means: “Eternal Beauty and Woman of Cinnamon Skin” I thought it was Perfect! AMARA LA NEGRA... i also read it as ‘i am so proud to be black and latina’! Is it a way to help other black women feel more confident? When I say I’m proud of being black and latina I mean it! I’m very proud of my culture, my race! I love my skin and who I Am! And for that I thank my mother “Mami Ana”. She raised me from a very
