SUMMER IS HERE!! Summer is back again and even if we did spend the month of June underwater, its good to see the sun and feel the warmth again. I personally love summer and all it has to offer; Hot days, warm nights, cooking on the grill, heading to the beach, fireworks, vacations and the overall feeling of being reenergized from the long winter. Tis the season for family cookouts, birthday parties and graduation parties. Our family has had quite of few that graduated this year and hats off to all of you. It has been 25 years since I graduated but I remember it fondly and on some days, I wish I were still in school and leaving the cares and worries of the working life behind. Good Luck Grads!

In January 2008, in the throws of Patriots fever, my beloved nephew David got 4 tickets for the Patriots vs. Giants game in the Meadowlands. Game 16, the road to perfection. David was taking Jen, Chris and Nick to the game. Why, I asked myself, would he not take his favorite aunt who happened to be a rabid football fan? After much haranguing, he coughed up two more tickets and invited Jeff and me. Unfortunately, Jeff hurt his back a week before the game so I took my friend Karen, who everyone knew. Not only were the tickets free, but Nick had frequent flyer miles so we stayed at the Hilton for 0 dollars, which happened to be the same hotel the Patriots were staying at. We missed Brady and Belichick in the lobby by 10 minutes, but I did spot Jabar Gaffney loitering about. When Jen heard Brady was in the building, bad knee or not, she RAN down the hall to catch a glimpse of him. Before the game, we went to lunch in East Rutherford and dined at an Italian place that was right out of the Sopranos, with a table of wiseguys sitting close by. The food was fantissimo, and as we were leaving, Guido and the boys asked us about the game, but did not go so far as to wish us luck. We were in Joisey after all. We got to the Meadowlands early, got great parking, and settled in for a few hours of tail-gating. The weather was mild and the coolers were filled with Massachusetts snow for good luck so the beers were extra frosty. We struck up several conversations with the millions of Giants fans there, and when a news truck pulled in and interviewed our neighbors, yours truly was the lone Pats fan in a sea of Big Blue. I made it on the news! The porta-potties had long lines and seeing that I drink ...contined on page 3

elissa Mazzone attended a two week seminar for film production at Suffolk University some time back and sat through 3 hours of classroom lessons daily, with the rest of the days filled with field trips. Melissa was able to see everything that Boston had to offer and made some great friends. Fall of 09, she will be going to Fitchburg State. The school offers Film Production as a major instead of just courses. She is looking forward to college.
M allory is babysitting occasionally for Karl and Heather’s
adorable daughters, Megan and Jane. She really enjoys watching them and it is a great way to stay in touch with the family. Mal is currently working at a daycare and is going to Salem State for Elementary Education. When it comes to kids, Mal is a pro! Also no stranger to Cupcakes, she was invited to a Halloween party thrown by none other than, Johnny Cupcakes himself. She went as a baseball player. Batter Up!....
T homas is taking a semester of college over the summer and in his spare time, he is flying planes, yes, planes. With hand over heart, Pauline watched as he flew his first solo. Tom is 17 and doesn’t have his license yet, but, he can fly planes.

Taking A Bite

a lot of beer, I decided waiting in them would put a damper on my day, so I approached a bunch of Pats fans with a motor home, wiggling a $20 between my fingers and announced “ Twenty dollars to the owner of the motor home if I can use the bathroom” It turned out quite nicely because these were Pats fans, the greatest people on earth, and they let all of us use the bathroom for the rest of the night. We even made friends! Oh yeah…..the game. While all the Giants fans were pretty easy going in the parking lot, it was a bit more hostile in the stands. No incidents but, we ( I ) was on our ( my ) best behavior. The game was great. We won. We made history. And on the way out we all were wishing the Giants fans “GOOD LUCK IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!

The adventurous young couple, Mike Reid and Lynda Jemson spent several days taking a bite out of the Big Apple (that is New Your City for those who just crawled out from under a rock). Cake was performing in Manhattans, Hell Kitchen and not be outbaked, the two of them secured two tickets to the hot show. No stone was left unturned in Central Park from these two as this would be their second trip into the large metropolis. From Chelsea to The Village , from Uptown to Downtown, new shoes and new socks were not to be denied of the trek. The Palm Steakhouse provided most of the fuel the whole trip with a few pit stops of BBQ at Dukes, bagels from Frontier Breakfast Grill and to top off the tank, a 3am breakfast at The Galaxy. Lynda and Mike recommends at least one trip to NYC if you haven’t been and we will be more than happy to go with you and show you around!
ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! Thank you David for one of the most memorable days of my life. And thanks to Nick, Chris, Jen and Karen and David for a great time and putting up with me. We had a blast!

The Story Tellers submitted by Lenore Azarian
We are the chosen...
My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can’t let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it.
It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take theirplace in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones.
It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.
Are you on? Many of us keep in touch via Facebook. It is no Newsletter but it is an easy way to keep in touch... www.facebook.com The Weekly Reider
