to this issue of NewHomesForSale.co.uk Despite the much-discussed credit crunch and resulting mortgage famine, nine out of 10 potential UK housebuyers would have no problem in securing a mortgage according to research by HSBC. "Almost one in four buyers think they might struggle to get a mortgage, however just one in 50 has actually given up on their purchase due to failing to find a suitable loan”, according to Martijn van der Heijden, HSBC's UK head of mortgages. “Anyone keen to buy a home still has an extensive range of mortgage options," he said. Of course interest rates will not be as low as they once were but neither will they be excessive. To those of us familiar with interest levels in the 1990s today’s mortgage rates still appear relatively cheap. Loans of 100% and 100% plus are also a thing of the past but buyers can often take advantage of the support now available from many home builders. This may take the form of a mortgage subsidy or a specially-arranged mortgage at a discounted rate or it may be an introduction to an experienced mortgage broker with a track record of solving buyer problems. It is true that there are no longer thousands of mortgage products competing for the buyer’s attention and lenders are more careful about how much money they lend and to whom they lend it. However, if you do wish to buy a new home this autumn there seems to be no reason why the credit crunch should prevent you from doing so successfully.
