How To Utilise Your Recruiter
How To Utilise Your Recruiter Working with your recruitment consultant is a really important factor when it comes to a successful job search. It is so important that your consultant fully understands your needs and career ambitions so they can put you in front of the right opportunity. At Juice, we sat down with Cheltenham’s Senior Consultant, Pippa White, in order to get a grasp on how candidates can truly utilise their consultant and maximise their services. PIPPA, WHAT IS BEHIND THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS? Recruitment is a really well-known industry, however, you would not necessarily know what happens behind the scenes. At Juice, we work with both clients and candidates in order to match the right person to the right business at the right time. This enables organisations to achieve business goals and candidates to develop their careers. For us, it depends on each role and this might involve advice on job descriptions, salary banding, market information, headhunting, screening and qualifying candidates, or even salary information. WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING FROM YOUR RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT? I genuinely believe in investing in people and I have seen the incredible impact that finding the right person their ideal role or having the right teams in place, can have on a business. This drives me every day to support our wonderful clients and candidates with their talent acquisition and career development plans. HOW IMPORTANT IS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN A CONSULTANT AND CANDIDATE? As a recruitment consultant, my job is all about communication. You have to be genuinely interested in people, hence why I love listening to candidates in order to really understand how I can find the right role and business for them. The more we know, the more we can help and provide their dream role. I think the most frustrating thing about working with a recruitment company is being told about roles you have no desire to apply for.
HOW DO YOU PREFER TO INTERACT WITH YOUR CANDIDATES? I feel it is imperative that I meet all my candidates face to face in order to build strong and lasting relationships. Human interaction is key in a relationship and if your consultant doesn’t ask to meet face to face, ask them to meet you instead. It is so important to interact with your consultant and build long-lasting relationships and if we cannot meet in person, I always try to arrange a Skype call or Facetime as it’s good to put a name to a face and understand each other. HOW VITAL IS TRANSPARENCY IN A RECRUITMENT RELATIONSHIP? Transparency and honesty is absolutely key in the recruitment process. We are here to help you develop your career. We know our clients and understand our markets so we’re in a great position to advise you on your CV, career direction, skillset and provide feedback where necessary in order to support your career goals. It is so important to be truthful and honest and as these are our core values at Juice, we love our candidates to mirror those same values. Consultants need to trust and respect you as a person for them to send you to a job interview – it is so important in a recruitment relationship. DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR A CANDIDATE APPROACHING A NEW RECRUITMENT AGENCY? Look for an established agency that specialises in your sector and works with a consultant who understands what you do and takes the time to listen to where you want your career to go. Juice has a 21-year history in the South West so we are very well respected locally. FINALLY, ANY LAST TIPS YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL CANDIDATES READING THIS? Know your market and your industry. Read, learn and develop and keep up to date with market influences and current trends. Understand trends and have a view on what’s next. This will all come out in an interview and impress your hiring Manager.
