Born Into Position Main Idea Like the Europeans, the Africans were very religious. Inheritance from ancestors is very important to the Africans. They were later brought to the Americas as slaves.

Why it matters now African Americans are decedents of the slaves of West Africa.

The people in charge were born into their leader position. Like in Europe, religion played a major role in the government and society. Most of the political leaders were very religious. The ruler of Ife kingdom claimed that God was one of his ancestors. Most of the rulers of different kingdoms also claim this, although it’s not true. Daily, there were religious rituals and activities performed. Farmers, hunters, and fishers performed the people who performed these rituals. They performed these because they thought it would bring them luck. The Africans were very religious, I think it was fair to say they were more religious then the Europeans, they did daily rituals and thought that they were descents of God. The family ancestry plays a major part in African lives. The loyalty and inheritance is from their ancestors. This is lineage on the mother's side of the family. Most people from Africa, like Europe, believe in God and are passionate in their religious views. They would worship him on daily basis and do daily rituals. There was slavery in Africa as well as in Europe and America. The richer Africans owned the more poor Africans and determined what they did or didn't do. So in that, Africans were like the Europeans in many ways, they worshipped God and had slaves just like them.

Throughout the history of Africa there were many different innovations that the Africans had come up with. One of the primary innovations they came up with was the trade routes, and trading outposts. One specific innovation of Africa was that most of these trade routes went in and out of cities. This was very good because if a person,or people from an area of Southern Africa and brought things from that region to the northern parts of Africa then they would be able to trade with those people in that region. Some of the things they could trade would be things such as crops, animals, and other goods. Another innovation that came from Africa in the 14th and 15th century was the trans sahara trades. This was one of the biggest and most productive trade routes in Africa at this time. Another innovation of Africa was the way they broke up the land among themselves. Throughout Africa groups of people would split up into provinces, and only a few families would own this specific area of land. Another amazing innovation that came from Africa was the making of paper. Back in those times egyptians would

use papyrus to write on. In a way Africa had just as many innovations as anyone else in the world at that time. ancestry- family or ancestral descent; lineage inheritance- something that is or may be inherited; property passing at the owner's death to the heir or those entitled to succeed; legacy. trans sahara trades- is trade across the Sahara between Mediterranean countries and subSaharan Africa. While existing from prehistoric times, the peak of such trade extended from the eighth century until the late sixteenth century.
