The European Exploration

European Society

The Spaniards technology that was used in this time period was pretty advance. They had wooded ships that where very advance and could sail for a long period of time. For example, They would sail in these ships for years traveling to India and china for trade. They would use weapons like swords and guns. Guns where a new weapon at the time and was very fatal witch scared the natives and many others. The natives didn't really have any good weapons besides spears and bow and arrows. Their weapons where still good for not having any technology and they could still be harmful. Overall the Spaniards had a great advantage over the natives, witch lead to the end of many tribes. The treatment of native Americans was horrible, they were. The europeans came to the Americas without any idea of what to expect if they met any one new. When they arrived to America they met a group of people called the native americans. Within first sight of the Natives colombus wanted to treat them with the utmost respect. Unfortunatly, within months of meeting the Natives the europeans were given orders to rampage and influence their religion upon the Indians and their society.

European Innovation

The native americans had treated the europeons with nothing but respect. They showed the whites how to hunt, how to live off the land. The whites were ungrateful, even though the native americans respected and loved them. The native americans had honest business with the whites. But out of spite, they did not return the native americans kindness. In the end, the whites were treated well above the level of respect. Indians innovation, or the way they lived, was usualy hunting, gathering, trading, and basket weaving. They hunted buffalo, and deer. This was one of the things they did for food. They also did hunting and gathering, finding things like vegatables and fruit, and other neccessities to their lives. This was antoher thing they did for food. Finnaly, they did basket weaving. This was nessecary because they needed storage space. These were things about the native americans that describe their innovation. The Spaniards technology that was used in this time period was pretty advance. They were killed, raped, pillaged, murdered, enslaved, and hated. They didn't do anything wrong and begged for the white peoples mercy. But, to no avail. The whites had committed genocide. They were killed because they were native Americans, and were there first ones there, and had their land stripped from them and had never gotten it back. The

whites were merciless. They didn't care what happened in their conquest of tyranny. The treatment of native Americans was horrible.

European Government

The European government had a system that ran the country that the natives lived in through lies, intimidation, and trying to force their religion on the natives in order to recruit and make them similar to them. The roles of social structure in order from lowest to highest was the slaves, peasants and poors, farmers and craftsmen, then the church and knights, lastly with the monarchs being at the top of the order. The monarchs were able to control the Native Americans thanks to their governments power, army, and false sence of authority. One reason that explains this is when the Europeans were telling the natives reasons about why it was alright to trespass on their land, which was because their queen allowed their army to explore anywhere throughout the world.Secondly the europoeans' government tried to run the natives land and possessions through intimidation. This method was proposed when the natives were retaliating against the europeans by trying to ask why are they tresspassing inside their land. This retaliation that the natives were putting on the europeans made them feel threatened and tried to intimidate them by threatening to shoot them, keep them as slaves, or even kill them.Lastly, the europeans' government had a major belief in religion and trying to spread it to others. When the europeans came to the natives land, immediately they began trying to preach to the indians about Christianity. This method of running the country made the natives feel very uncomfterable about the fact that they were not able to have the freedom to worship their own God. This matters now because in todays society behaviour like this shown by the europeans would not be tolerated, because of what America's views are on freedom and equality and how we believe that actions like this should not be repeated in any way ever

again. In conclusion, the europeans' government used many techniques as far as the natives to go their way and live on their terms.

______________________________________________________ Key Terms: technology-the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. genocide-the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. intimidation-to force into or deter from some action by inducing fear.

The Native American Settlers

The Indians had a simplistic life style that had a impact on their society due to their religion,

The government system of the Native Americans where some what similar to what we have today. They would pick most respected men as leaders within their society. Then they would separate into tribes and have the selected men go be their leaders. Due to this though there was fighting and was among many of clans for more land. This government was called the Iroquois league. Most of the violence came to a stop after they leaders of the clans had a meeting. This system lay out the foundation of the first colonial government, made by Benjamen Franklin. Most Indian tribes had the Iroquois league type of government but then some had different type of government, it mainly depended on the size of the tribe. Native Americans believed that their gods were what we may call "backup". They believed that the strength of their gods was what got them their victory. " Their weapons are stronger, their strategies are stronger, and their gods are stronger." Lies my teacher told me James Lowin

They believed every victory anyone won was because of their gods. The Native Americans had been very apprehensive of the Europeans, and when it came battle, they believed that the European had stronger gods, stronger weapons, and better strategies. They believed that their gods had abandoned them and accepted defeat. They had thought that the gods that they had were not strong enough, not brave enough, and cowardice against the white gods. This is one of the reasons that the Native Americans gave up in the assault of the whites. In defeat, the strong survived, and the weak died. Mothers would leave their babies where they were to flee the whites. The babies would die, no one returning for them, and in the hatred and the spite of the Europeans, they would not help the wounded, young Native Americans. Is this out of keeping supplies for they would survive, or was this because they hated the Indians? All the native americans knew were that they were being hunted and their race would be enslaved.

Life before any of this was simple. They hunted, gathered, but never really seemed to interact with other tribes/groups as much as other races did, and lived off the land. This is so, because there is no evidence that they traded with other groups ( maybe besides the whites) and they showed the whites how to grow vegetables like corn, and how to hunt, and even made their huts out of the skins of the animals they killed. They cherished everything they killed and ate, particularly the buffalo. This is so, because the buffalo was the skin of the huts, the food they ate, and one of the spirits they beleived in.

Key Terms: simplistic- characterized by extreme simplism. strategies- a plan, method, or series of maneuvers or stratagems for obtaining a specific goal or result. cherished- to hold or treat as dear; feel love for.

The African Lifestyle African innovation, the way they lived, was social hierarchy, Ambassadors, hunting/ gathering, and than slaves. The Africans had a social hierarchy, which meant social class, and affected the way people looked at you and treated you. For example, the slaves worked for the upper class man, the hunter/gatherers and the ambassadors. The hunters/gatherers would hunt, weave baskets, gather fruits vegetables, make necessities for life and hunt game, and trade with the other tribes/groups. The ambassadors were the representatives of the entire groups/tribes, and were responsible for everything, and took on a religious role as well, possibly being chose by their god? Not much else known about how it works in the African innovation/lifestyle.

Africans were converted to Islamic from trading to the different cultures. This took a huge tole on what they did and how they lived, and Islamic changed their culture, but not indefinitely. This is so, because they didn't totally change their way of life, because they never really had a place of worship, and still hunted, gathered, etc. From there, the Islamic faith was spread forward. The Africans followed the writings of the Qumran, the words of Allah. They would trade from tribe to tribe, spreading the faith, or religious beliefs. If it weren't for trade, it never would have reached the entire group of native Africans. No only that, but trading was also a huge part of their life.

The African trading system usually took place at Goa, Timbuktu, and Jenne. They were busy commercial centers, and this is how Islamic faith got spread to the different tribes. The Portuguese and the Africans knew less about each other then they would do now. The Portuguese had plantations witch then had another big source of trade going on, it trade was called the slave trade. Trading was power, if they had more trade, they had more money, more money equals bigger and stronger military. The Three Kingdoms, Songhai, Benin, Kongo, all wanted to be the only kingdom but they all had spacial item that each kingdom wanted. The Sarah highway was very vital to get these goods and also to go on crusades to go take land.

The African Government was based on lineage. So basically you where born into a rank, but as you grew older you would move up in ranks. The oldest person was the highest rank and was in charge. They believed if you where older then you would be smarter then all the other people. They would also have all the leaders in charge go to a counsel meeting to discuss the problems that they have or are seeing. But the elders also had another job too, they where in charge of being their religious leaders. They thought if you where older then you where closer to what they believe in, "the god in the sky" as they call it.

Key Terms: converted- noting a specified type of person who has been converted from the religion, beliefs, or attitudes characteristic of that type. plantations- a usually large farm or estate, esp. in a tropical or semitropical country, on which cotton, tobacco, coffee, sugar cane, or the like is cultivated, usually by resident laborers. lineage- the line of descendants of a particular ancestor; family; race.
