His corporate career includes being an Accounting Supervisor and Auditor for Enterprise Rent-A-Car Corp., Senior Financial Controls Auditor for R.R. Donnelly, Audit Manager and Field Financial Specialist with Chicago Public Schools. Additionally, he is a former Logistics Officer with the Army National Guard. Alton’s professional memberships include the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), National Society of Accountants (NSA), National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), and is currently a Keeper of Finance for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Cherea Bonds ˜ Founder of :Sponsoring Thousands At A Time 2-Greatness;

Help enough people get what they want, and you’ll get what you want by default. That’s the statement that drives Cherea Bonds toward being the best that she can be. Since a young child, she has believed in the fact that you can do or be anything you can imagine, and this has stuck with her throughout her life and still motivates her today. Mrs. Bonds has always strived for a life of abundance, knowing this type of life would allow her to not only experience achieving some of her goals and dreams, but more importantly, allow her to help others with their goals and dreams. One of her deepest passions lies in helping the youth of our communities. After working in corporate America, Mrs. Bonds realized that a 9 to 5 was not what she wanted for the rest of her life. She wanted something better for herself and to be able to offer Cherea Bonds something better to her 3 children. Cherea set out to find a new lifestyle in being an Entrepreneur and controlling her own destiny. Currently Mrs. Bonds owns and operates a property management company, Safeway I C Management Inc., located in the Lawndale area of Chicago’s Westside. By the grace of God, Safeway has been blessed to survive all the Real Estate fiascos, and has been able to remain a viable business, affording Mrs. Bonds the chance to provide housing for low income families. Recognizing that the needs of the people are so great. Cherea has learned to tune into the needs of her residents, thus finding herself wearing many different hats. To some she has become a teacher, for those who need some understanding, a mentor to those looking for direction, a social worker to those in dire situations, a counselor to those who are confused, and all the other professions surrounding people, who are crying for help. Desperately wanting to give more and expose people to the fact that life has so much to offer, Cherea Bonds has been able to assist those who have a vision for their future, an opportunity to join her on the entrepreneurship band wagon. Bril Barrett ˜ Founder of M. A.D.D. Rythms Tap Academy

Bril Barrett works hard and taps harder. He has dedicated his life to making a difference in the lives of youth and being the change in his community. He has used the artform of tap to make a life for himself. He started M.A.D.D . Rhythms Tap Academy 10 years ago as a volunteer program to keep young boys out of trouble. It soon grew to include girls and later became a professional tapdance company. Those first children, along with Bril, are now the instructors of M.A.D.D Rythms. After School Matters, Chicago Public Schools, Better Boys Foundation, After School All Stars, Family Focus Lawdale and The Chicago Community Trust are among the partners who have aligned with Bril in support of his mission. His company’s mission statement reads: M.A.D.D. Rhythms mission is to preserve, Bril Barrett promote and contribute to this art-form called tap. We will use this beautiful dance/music form to make a differnce in the under-served communities of this world by connecting and caring for the youth. We believe that having access and options gives a child a greater chance at a positive life. All of my life I just wanted to do something special. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to make my Mother and Father proud; I wanted to buy my Mother a house. I have three incredible sisters and I guess I was always the one with HDAD — High- Def-Attention –Disorder! I have always had a gift to retain information and to train others when I chose to focus, and work ethic was never a problem, neither was taking risks in business. I have always enjoy being apart of something big! Something greater that what most people in my circle thought was possible, but most of all, I love helping in any way other people to live their dreams. Growing up as a dreamer can sometimes be a lonely place, so I guess I’d go out and start my own community. The best way to sum it all up can be found in this email I received last week from a young lady that attended an James Dentley event where I was speaking about 2 years ago. I believe in dreams, yours and mine! I believe in God! I believe in the power of the human spirit and all of our potential. Conferences, workshops, seminars . . . I've done them all . . . attended, assisted and even hosted my own. I considered myself a seminar professional, or, rather, a professional seminargoer. One more, I thought to myself, wouldn't make an appreciable difference in my life. Or would it? It was at the end of Powerteam International's Inspiration2020 in Los Angeles, a city I love to visit. Making it even more enticing was the $10.00 flight from Las Vegas that weekend. What a bonanza!!!!!! See? Slots and tables are not the only trick in Vegas. Never mind I showed up on the wrong day at the wrong time for the flight, I managed to 'beat the man" at the airport pricing game. Can't get much better than this, not even by Vegas standards in my estimation. Or can it? Conference host Bill Walsh (America's Business Expert) had already given his final presentation and was on his way, most likely, to another Rainmaker event. It was now time for the wrap up--- the one-hour close. Enter James Dentley. James Dentley, the big guy, the gentle giant. I had seen James at a few other Powerteam events. I had even chatted with him earlier in the day. He seemed nice enough--- upbeat, positive. So when he took to the podium I was expecting a "nice" little wrap up, a sort of "nice" thank-you-for-coming accompanied by a "nice," warm, fuzzy embrace and possibly an invitation to a future event. Well, I was in for a huge surprise. Man oh man oh man. His first order of business after he introduced himself was to invite everyone to draw closer to the front of the room. Many of the conference attendees had already left, probably to return to work or catch flights back home or for any number of reasons. Those who remained had NO idea what was in store for us. Mr. Dentley gave us a little personal background (you know. . . the kind of info that goes in the "About Us" section of a website. . .) and shared why he loves what he does. He then proceeded to get into some storytelling. Quote after quote, parable after parable, life example after life example, some personal and others that hit close to home, he took us on an emotionally charged journey. Although it was partially his journey it could have been any of ours. He schooled us, challenged us, opened wounds, then sutured us back together again. Let me tell you, I kept my head down and my eyes fixed so that no one could see how moist they were. Next, I heard sniffles. At first, there were a few here and there, then suddenly, everyone, men, women, young people, ALL professionals were giving way to their emotions. DARN you, James Dentley. You see, Mr. James Dentley, that DARN James Dentley, somehow with just the right combination of experience and pathos forced us to go within, DEEEEP within ourselves and confront our "stuff." Why do we do what we do? He took us to a place that is not for the faint of heart---- the core. What inspires us? What is blocking us? Why are we moving or not moving forward? I tell you, right then and there I had to admit that in spite of outward appearances, I was a broken woman. Broken, I tell you, BROKEN! That was not the first encounter with myself but what made this time different and even more poignant was because it was so unexpected. Who expects to go to a business meeting and walk away with their soul shaken and stirred? After the session, just about everyone was stripped. We were left bare. Power suit: stripped. Briefcase: stripped. Game face: stripped. Yet, we suddenly became open: open to feel, open to connect. I dare say that all who left there that evening left changed, first, by the solid business insights presented during the conference and undoubtedly by the powerfully moving close delivered by James Dentley. Yes, the one who made me reexamine every thought, fear, reason and excuse I had regarding my business and my purpose. Friends, should you ever have the opportunity, get yourself to a Powerteam event, avail yourself of the programs that are being offered and do yourself a favor, a HUGE favor. Stay for the close. I can assure you, you will be in.for.a.treat. I promise you, you will benefit greatly from the wisdom and knowledge of James Dentley, yes, that DARN James Dentley. Kimi L. Ellen ˜ Co-Founding Partner of Benford Brown & Associates

Kimi L. Ellen is the co-founding partner of Benford Brown & Associates, LLC one of the largest, African-American women-owned accounting firms in the country, with offices in Chicago and Bolingbrook, Illinois. She founded the firm in 1996 with a fellow Deloitte and Touche’, LLP staff, Alyssia Benford. She has devoted a substantial portion of her career to providing audit, accounting, consulting, and tax services to state and local governments as well as not for profit organizations. As a result, Kimi has acquired several advanced skills such as not-for-profit financial audits, single audits, government compliance audits, accounting software implementation, forensic audits, and not-for-profit accounting. Kimi is a licensed CPA in the State of Illinois. She is also an active member in the American Kimi L. Ellen Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and the National Association of Black Accountants –Division of Firms. She is a three-time nominee of the Volunteer of the Year award of the Illinois CPA Society and currently serves as the president of the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce, President of the Windy City Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and Social Chairman of the Lake Shore Chapter of the Links, Incorporated. She has also served as a previous board member of the Imani Pearls Community Development Foundation and Bingham Human Services. Kimi obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she excelled in accounting and was the president of the Minority Commerce Association. Over the past decade, the most rewarding philanthropic endeavor has been the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce. Since joining the Chapter, she hit the ground running. She was appointed to the troubled board of directors. She was soon voted secretary of the board. Her meticulous notes brought a level of professionalism to the position. When the president at that time became ill and was unable to complete his tenure, Kimi stepped in and assumed the position of president. Under her tenure, membership has multiplied into the hundreds and it continues to grow. Her leadership also helped to develop multiple Special Service Areas in the community; her specific focus a Special Service Area #50 to ensure that taxes are spent according to the wishes of the Commission. Kimi is most proud of her wonderful family. She has been married to her husband, Cornelius Ellen for fifteen years and her son, Bryce, and daughter, Peyton are her world. Nathan Kirkwood Jr.’s business life can be simply stated. He is the sum total of his experiences. Beginning at nine years of age he sold Jet magazines and Chicago Defender newspapers from 6:30 – 8:30 am, before school. This work experience taught him, at a young age, the importance of getting up early for a job, selling a product and understanding how Black people appreciated him being of service to them. Later at twelve years of age, he organized his five brothers to sell Jet magazines during the year, and snow cones in front of the A&P and National Food stores on 37th , 39th and 43rd Street during the summer months. This taught him family teamwork, and how working as a family could satisfy their daily needs and supply products of substance to the community. These early experiences of getting an early start on a job, learning how income is produced, working with others, and being of service within the Black community were to be the foundation Nathan Kirkwood Jr he was to carry to every job thereafter. In college, while working at the U.S. Postal Service, he learned teamwork, chain of command, and interpersonal relationships. This gave him the confidence to embrace more challenging jobs as a regulatory examiner of financial institutions for the State of Illinois, and economic development officer for the City of Chicago. He also sold investment products through Waddell & Reed, and insurance products through Prudential Insurance Co. This concentrated involvement in the fields of economic development, finance, insurance and sales would prove to be invaluable as a banker, and resulted in his elevation to the position as Vice President of Economic Development at Gateway National Bank at 79th and Stony Island in Chicago. From Gateway and staying in the Black community, he continued as a Banker at Pullman and later Highland Community Bank. It was at Highland Bank that his dreams of utilizing all of his past experience came together, and the business firm of Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood was founded. He knew that he wanted to be in the community that had supported him as a child of the Black Community. He knew he wanted to have his business in the community that as a banker he serviced through the financing of its homes, cars, and provided its children with college finances. He knew his business had to be where he shopped, lived and worshipped his God. He knew his business had to be easily accessible by foot or by car, ie, the Black community on 79th Street. He knew the community would identify with him. He knew the business would be one that he wanted to be passed on to family and friends. Thus, by doing so, the business would last long after his days were gone. To accomplish this, he knew he would have to do two important things: advertise and provide year round personal and friendly service. It was there that he has been able to brand the name Kirkwood over the Southside of Chicago. Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood for thirty-eight years have provided accounting, income tax preparation, financial and estate planning advice and consultation. It is a family owned business being passed on to Nathan Kirkwood III, MBA and presently the #1 producer. He is ably assisted by his office daughter and office manager Litha Herron. Nathan Kirkwood III was raised on Chicago’s Southside by his father, Nathan Kirkwood Jr. and mother Antoinette A. Kirkwood. His father is accountant and business owner of Nathan Kirkwood Associates/Taxes by Kirkwood. His mother is a retired educator/administrator of CPS Schools. Nathan Kirkwood III graduated from high school from Chicago’s Kenwood Academy. From there he went on to graduate from Roosevelt University with a BA Degree in Accounting before attaining a Masters Degree in Accounting from Keller Graduate School of Management. Nathan Kirkwood III has been a staff accountant and tax preparer for his father’s firm for twenty-two years. He has serviced more than seven hundred clients annually including individuals, partnerships, corporations and non for profit organizations. Growing up within the inner city was not easy for David. His parents have been married for thirtyseven years. The success of that experience led the State to continue funding Shelton Solutions to provide application assistance to the public sector. Shelton Solutions is also a Smart Energy Design Assistance Expert commissioned by the State of Illinois to provide energy management technical services on the State's behalf. She is a Certified Energy Manager, a Chartered Industrial Gas Consultant as designated by the American Gas Association and a past co-chair for the Chicago Solar Partnership. In addition, Ms Shelton is President of the Chicagoland Chapter of the Association of Professional Energy Consultants. She also co-wrote an early version of the Energy Plan for the City of Chicago. At the 2012 Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Trade Ally Rally for the Northern Region, Shelton Solutions received the award for achieving the 3rd Highest Energy Savings for the Illinois Energy Now Energy Efficiency Incentive Program. Kelly Shelton holds a Master of Engineering Management from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and a Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. In this day and time there are many betrayals who have beset our community, who have set back and kept us from reaching our true greatness and place in history. There are many groups that perpetuate crimes of economic parity in our community. However, we are most guilty of this crime of parity against ourselves. First of all, African-Americans handle vast sums of money. But, somehow we have been taught to look at ourselves as poor people. We are not poor people. We just handle our money poorly. Out of ever y dollar we spend 95 cents is spent outside of our community. We only spend 5 cents of every dollar within our community. We spend so much money, that ever yday we make someone rich. We can’t stop it. The only choice we have is who these people are going to be. We are in total control of our money, and what, where and whom we buy from. So, we have to blame ourselves for giving our economic power away. We do not realize the damage we are doing to our own community by not keeping our money within our community. So if there are giants in other communities. We are the giant makers. When other communities grow and prosper it is because we made it so. So, as our unemployment rate becomes the highest in the countr y. Don’t Complain. As our economic rate and opportunities fall and diminish. Don’t Complain. When African-Americans in Miami have only one Bank and Hispanics have thirty. Don’t Complain. When you find yourself begging some Bank for a loan and get rejected. Don’t Complain. As our teenage unemployment and death rate soars. Don’t complain. As our crime rate and murders sets new standards. Don’t complain. As our dreams and our children’s ambitions are being mortgaged away and our homes foreclosed on. Don’t Complain. As a singer of songs once sang “The Man Finally Let You Make Some Money And You Fools Give It All Back”
