What Is New Tech About?

New Tech Principles

How many of you looked forward to going to school? Didn’t think so. Well, New Tech is trying to change that. New Tech want to make students excited about coming to school. The school work on Project Based Learning (PBL). Students work together in groups to solve problems. The students start out with an entry document sharing information about a problem. They then move on with two lists: Know and Need to Know. From there they create a problem statement and discuss the necessary steps to take.

New Tech schools are run on 3 essential principles. Each are key to create a safe and fun working environment.

Trust is a big part of New Tech High School. When the student begin to trust one another they work better together. They trust each other to share ideas and opinions. Trust also helps to create a safe environment, not just for working but for making connections.

The Students of New Tech The students attending Ypsilanti New Tech have gathered from school around the district. When the students went to the Howell Nature center and participated in the ropes course, had a chance to get to know one another before school started. The students worked on team building and trusting each other. The students took time and worked together to accomplish some hard tasks: orienteering, a high ropes course, a and a low ropes course.

“ The high ropes were really awesome. The team building was also prettty awesome.” - Student, on the field trip
