Laptops Students at New Tech are loaned their own personal Macbook for use during the school day. When you show responsibility over your laptop, you will be allowed to take it home. Each laptop is signed out in 1st hour and is signed in at the end of the day. You use your computers throughout the day for working on your projects.

Three Principals The three essential principles are: • Trust • Respect • Responsibility Trust is an important key to New Tech. If there is trust, then people can trust one another and leave valuable stuff lying around without any fear of anyone taking it. Respect is also important. When teachers are talking or a fellow student is presenting his or her work, you must show him or her respect and not chat with friends around you or play around with the laptop. Responsibility is also important when you are using technology. In order to take your laptop home, you must care for your laptop and show responsibility by being careful with the portable computer loaned to you the the school.
Project Based Learning Project Based Learning (also known as “PBL”) is the “backbone” of Ypsilanti New Tech. All of the learning is done by projects and when these projects are done, you don’t take a test, rather, you present your project to the rest of your class and sometimes to the rest of the school. Students work alone, with a partner, or in a group, just like the real world. Projects can be done in a PowerPoint Presentation, on paper, in a photo essay, or a digital result such as a website. A good project includes: • An open-ended question • Use of Technology • Collaboration • Long term time frame • A presentation
21st Century Skills The 21st Century Skills are: • Collaboration • Use of Technology • Work Ethic Collaboration is the same thing as teamwork and cooperation. Collaboration is working with someone in order to create a product. Technology is used throughout the day in many ways. Websites are projected onto screens, students use laptops, and projects are created using the laptops. Work Ethic is hard work and diligence. It is important to New Tech because if you work hard, then you shall accomplish high school and be prepared for your new life outside of school.
