21st century skills
Project Based Learning
Three Principles
The majority of work at New Tech is done through Project Based Learning, or “PBL”.
New Tech teaches students 21st century skills that give them advantages in the business world, such as: • Technology Use • Work Ethic • Collaboration • Personal Capacity Students use a laptop during school, for work and research. Projects are frequently done in groups, helping students to learn together. New Tech has a certain society, that helps kids develop a healthy work ethic.
Students receive an entry document, outlining their task. Next, they write a list of things they know, and what they need to know. A problem statement is then written, and students decide what needs to be done from there. Students can also elect to participate in optional workshops, that provide them with helpful information. The projects help kids develop time management skills, and relate more to situation that help in the real world.
At New Tech, there’s three principles: • Trust • Respect • Responsibility There is very high level of trust at New Tech, its important to feel welcome and secure. The teachers’ area, or the “cockpit”, is left open, and without doors. Respect is key for a good work environment. Taking turns talking, and giving full attention to teachers is vital. Responsibility is very important, as students must care for their laptops, and also as to complete their work on time.
