With our cruise sustainability program we are introducing cleaner fuels across our cruise ships, promoting responsible travel through our sustainable excursions, reducing plastics, recycling and reusing waste on all our ships and producing our own freshwater on board directly from the sea.

CAN CRUISING BE MORE SUSTAINABLE? At MSC Cruises we believe it can be. From introducing cleaner fuel across our fleet, to sustainable excursions, to our state-of-the-art water treatment facilities, we’re putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do. To preserve the sea we call home, and change cruising for good. A particular focus is on minimizing air emissions, with systems in place to meet or exceed regulatory limits, and efforts to reduce our carbon emissions profile, including extensive energy efficiency measures on board every ship. Reducing, reusing and recycling waste generated onboard is a key focus across our entire fleet, and we are working hard to eliminate all non-essential single-use plastics from our ships.

Advanced wastewater treatment ensures all water consumed is purified before returning to the sea. Every ship in the fleet has a dedicated full-time Environmental Officer responsible for environmental compliance and providing training and education to all our crew.

Over 80% of freshwater produced on board our fleet is from desalinated seawater – up to 3 million litres per ship every day!
