Origins of MSC Software MSC Software, formerly the MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation, was founded in 1963 by Dr. Richard MacNeal and Mr. Robert Schwendler in Los Angeles. The years that followed would provide strong growth in the simulation technology environment. MSC Software Corporation was awarded the original contract from NASA to commercialize the finite element analysis (FEA) software known as NASTRAN (NASA Structural Analysis). NASTRAN was inducted into the U.S. Space Foundation's Space Technology Hall of Fame in 1988, as one of the first technologies to receive this prestigious honor: http://www.sti.nasa.gov/tto/pdf/STHOF_flyer.pdf Additionally, in a NASA Heritage of Creativity reference, it was stated that NASTRAN contributed $10 billion+ value in "manned space flight contributions to humanity." See page 10 in the following link:
http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/251093main_The_NASA_Heritage_Of_Creativity.pdf. MSC pioneered many of the technologies that are now relied upon by industry to analysis in our flagship product, MSC Nastran. Over our rich history, MSC has developed or acquired many other well known CAE applications including Patran, Adams, Marc, Dytran, SimDesigner, SimManager, MSC Fatigue, Easy5, Sinda and Actran. Our 1,100+ person team at MSC continues to focus on the core principles that have driven the company since its inception in 1963. We develop solutions that help our customers expand their horizon of simulation. Simulations that are not only edge case, hard to solve physics but also the most valuable to our users’ business.
