SOCCER WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 21 Mustang men’s soccer returns to Elwood Olsen Stadium in their Great Plains Athletic Conference home opener, hosting the Red Raiders of Northwestern College

THE SERIES Morningside and Northwestern last met in the GPAC Semifinals, where the Mustangs fell 2-1. The previous regular season meeting, also in Orange City, resulted in a 2-1 loss for Morningside. The series goes to Northwestern, 3-2, through the last five matchups.

THE MATCH-UP Morningside’s defense is anchored by GPAC player of the week, Bjarne Huth, who has 18 saves in seven games this season. Huth sports a goals against average of 1.71 goals, matching Morningside’s scoring average this season. The Mustang offense is led by Gero Zarbo, the reigning GPAC offensive player of the week, with three goals this season. Robin Thomala, Jona Fischer, and Levi Von Hagen all have two goals each, giving Morningside several scoring threats. Northwestern’s scoring threat is led by Niklas Fitter, who has three goals in seven games. Like the Mustangs, Northwestern has other options on offense, with Joshua Wingfield, Gerrard Uami, and Tim Kaltenberger each with two goals on the season. Ezekiel Foltz has been the primary keeper for the Raiders, with a goals against average of 1.67 goals and 35 saves in six games played.
