SOCCER SATURDAY, SEPT. 3 The Mustangs take the pitch for their home opener, playing host to the Waldorf Warriors. Morningside hopes to build off its recent success, having captured 2-1 victory over no. 12 Bellevue on Tuesday night.
THE SERIES Morningside holds a firm advantage over the last half dozen games, winning 4-2 the last time out.
THE MATCH-UP The Mustangs, 1-2, are led on offense by seniors Robin Thomala and Max Hartman and sophomore Jonas Markfoged, each netting a goal through Morningside’s three games. Bjarne Huth has 270 minutes in the goal this season, with a goals against average of 1.67 per game. He has nine saves so far this season. Waldorf is 1-2-1, having played Graceland to a 3-3 before dropping matches to Graceland and Briar Cliff. The Warriors picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday vs York, 2-1. Hanibal Abraha and Antonio Coutinho lead Waldorf on offense, each netting goals in the win over York. Osvaldo Andrade has been the anchor for Waldorf in goal, recording eight saves in the clean sheet against York.
