SOCCER WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7 Morningside returns to the turf of Elwood Olsen Stadium for another non-conference match and one last opportunity to find a rhythm before starting conference play.

THE SERIES Grand View and Morningside last met in the 2017 season in a match that ended in a 1-1 tie.

THE MATCH-UP Morningside has fallen to 1-3, following last week’s loss to Waldorf. The Vikings come into the match 1-1-1, having soundly defeated no. 12 Bellevue before descending into their current two-game winless streak. The Mustangs have recorded 46 shots this season, averaging 11.5 per game, but shooting at a .130 percentage. A goals leader has yet to emerge among the Morningside ranks, with six different players scoring so far this season. Robin Thomala and Levi Von Hagen lead in the shots column, each with seven on the season. Morningside’s senior keeper, Bjarne Huth, has been in goal for each of the four games this season, with a goals against average of 2.25 and 10 saves across the 360 minutes. Rune Peterson has stepped up as a leader among the players for the Vikings, recording three goals in three games. Lucas Newhard follows with two goals, and three other players have one each. Time in goal for Grand View has been shared between Emiliano Laguna, who has two games, giving up four goals while collecting 11 saves, and Robin Balters, who gave up two goals in his single outing. The team has a goals against average of 2.0, saving 75 percent of shots on goal.
