SOCCER WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 21 Morningside’s women take the field of Elwood Olsen Stadium for the first time this season, playing Northwestern College in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s soccer action.
THE SERIES The Mustangs hold a 3-2 advantage over the last five matchups, soundly defeating Northwestern 4-1 in Orange City last year.
THE MATCH-UP Morningside is 2-4 on the season, with an 0-2 record in the conference. Keyera Harmon leads the Mustang offense, with 12 shots on goal across six games, with a team-leading three goals. Samantha O’Roy follows in goal count, with two in three games. Lily Sidel also poses a threat, with seven shots on goal. Senior Megan Messersmith and sophomore Isabel Ter Weeme have split time in goal this season. Messersmith’s average of 1.77 goals against pairs with her 22 saves this season. Ter Weeme has five saves in her three outings. Northwestern enters the contest with a 4-4 record, matching Morningside’s 0-2 record in the conference. The Raiders’ offense is led by Alexa Johnson, who has seven goals on the season. Keeper Kaelin Alons has a GPACleading 47 saves in eight games with a 2.67 goals against average.
