‘Love Your Job’ Awards 2014

Economic Solutions Presents a Celebration Dinner in Honour of National Careers Service Achievements in Greater Manchester Thursday, 13th February 2014 The Palace Hotel

TM

Introduction Economic Solutions is delighted to host this prestigious celebration dinner in honour of the many achievements across the Greater Manchester National Careers Service Network. Since the inception of the funded adult careers services in 2001, significant importance has been placed on staff development, with a particular emphasis on developing new programmes for National Careers Service advisers, whilst keeping support and observation staff skills up to date. Exceptional commitments to the development programmes have collectively enabled staff to achieve a wide range of qualifications and develop new skills. In September 2013, the Ofsted inspection report highlighted that ‘good leadership and management, exceptional performance monitoring and outstanding training and development opportunities’ were contributing factors to the Grade 2 award. We all know how difficult it can be to balance work, life and Continuous Professional Development, and therefore it is a credit to all in the Greater Manchester network, that not only has there been high volumes of staff achieving qualifications, but a good Ofsted result and ongoing, excellent performance, which has led to growth in funding over the last two years, enabling more customers in the region to access the National Careers Service. The evening is therefore a fitting thank you to all. This ceremony is a fitting end to our Love Your Job week celebrating the tremendous work that our staff do to make a difference in the lives of thousands of customers across Greater Manchester. The evening is therefore an expression of our sincere thanks to you all. We extend a warm welcome to you and hope that you enjoy the evening’s celebrations. Best wishes, Carol Jamieson - Head of National Careers Service Greater Manchester

Julie Cooper Julie is an author, trainer & coach with expertise in, and enthusiasm for, lifelong learning & professional development issues. She has a special interest in helping others develop one to one skills and offers coaching to other trainers and coaches who want to write a book. Following some time teaching in Adult Education, she spent 10 years working as an Adult Guidance Adviser in Cambridgeshire. In 2006 Julie was approached by a former colleague,

Ann Reynolds, who had established a centre offering IAG qualifications and wanted help with delivery. Together they trained many Advisers in colleges, local government & voluntary organisations. Finding no appropriate text book for their trainees, and realising that all IAG trainers must face the same issue, they decided to write one. Julie and Ann co-authored The One to One Toolkit (2008) and The Groupwork Toolkit (2010). Despite publishing being a very rocky road, both books have become standard texts, widely used by IAG and QCG training providers. The Job Interview Toolkit followed in 2011. These days Julie works mainly in the field of soft skills and management development. In 2012, she published Face to Face in the Workplace: A Handbook of Strategies for Effective Discussions. It has been widely acclaimed, with positive reviews in HR Director, Manager, Business Executive and other prestigious magazines, It was also featured in The Sunday Times and Guardian Careers.
