Intel Innovators
What is Intel Innovators? A platform within Intel’s Facebook community that allows young entrepreneurs in the US to share business ideas, grow a fan base and get real-time feedback. Each month, $100,000 are up for grabs.

Finding the innovators of tomorrow Entrepreneurs submit their ideas on the page through videos. Every month, a selection committee selects the 20 best ones to showcase in the 'Pitch Room'. The five with the most 'social capital' (points) awarded by fans go into the 'Battleground' (the final).

The Battleground The top five ideas are pitched to a panel of venture capitalists, executives and technology entrepreneurs on a live webcast. The panel awards $50,000 to the winner and the 'Top Fan', who earns and invests most points, awards the same amount to the idea of his/her choice.

The technology and innovation pioneer Intel created this community to discover, empower and award the next generation of entrepreneurs and to seed the best ideas for a better tomorrow. This fits in with Intel's passion for technology and innovations, and its motto -- 'Sponsors of tomorrow'.

Intel identifies social media as the ideal crowdsourcing channel Brands like Starbucks and Dell use social media to source insights because it sparks conversations, diversifies communication through content pegs, is dynamic and allows instant interactions with ideas through engagement tools such as 'like' and 'share'.

Crowdsourcing meets corporate citizenship meets gamification The campaign taps into the excitement over start-ups using trendy techniques like crowdsourcing and gamification; corporate citizenship is the end objective.

The criticism The campaign received some flak because of the restrictions on participation – only 18 to 24 year olds from the US are allowed. Critics were also concerned about ideas being stolen and that most ideas are more social than business-like.

Most brands are on the crowdsourcing bandwagon; Intel isn't Currently in the third round, the campaign has received more than 1,000 entries and hundreds of thousands of engagements. Unlike other brands, Intel has a reason to crowdsource ideas – create a better society – which explains its success.
